I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 252: She would be fine
Chapter 252: She would be fine
Lisa looked at him for a few seconds before she looked at the plate of cold noodles.
"You remembered."
Ravi was quiet for a second, "Of course. We are partners after all."
She did not move her fork. Without her police uniform, dressed in a white hospital gown, she looked very young. He forgot at times just how young she was.
"Partners should stick together," Lisa repeated what she had said to him after they had met. She still recalled that irritated and cold hazel eyes that scanned her over.
"You are right. We should. Try them and let me know what they taste like."
The noodles were fragrant and had a satisfying chewiness to them. The sauce was a good balance while the chili oil reminded her of the one that her grandmother used to send to her mother before she passed away.
The pickled green beans and the cucumber were crunchy and refreshing. It made her eyes prickle against her wish.
When she was growing up, they had been so poor so her mother did everything she could to save electricity. These cold noodles were her favorite thing to make. Sometimes, she would soak the noodles, making them a little too soft but too little Lisa, the noodles were a delicacy that she savored bit by bit.
True, she had crawled out of that place all by herself.
"I would be fine, you know."
Ravi nodded, "Of course. You are Lisa Johnson and you are my partner. Why wouldn’t you be fine."
Ravi was still Ravi, at this time, he would not look at her with pity like everyone else.
For some reason, it made her extremely happy.
"Your nephew is so cute."
Ravi had come with Asher but after chatting for a while, Asher had excused himself to buy some yogurt downstairs but he had come back up.
"Look at you! You look like some proud uncle. You are the one who gave back to him, what are you looking so smug for?"
Ravi chuckled and sat down next to her, "Have you heard the saying that the more you get closer to someone, the more you begin to look like the person?"
Lisa blinked and then chuckled.
She opened the second layer of the flask, which was divided into two compartments with the two kinds of salad, "You are treating me so well. It is so delicious."
She was not injured seriously and the healers had already treated her concussion, there was no restriction on food so she indulged as much as she could.
"If I knew your cooking skills were this good. I would have come to Harlem no matter what. It is funny, I was so scared of the remnants from the Nest Eruption that I never visited and now, I think it is a joke. I am not scared of any aliens anymore. Humans are much scarier than any monster.’
Ravi swallowed that while humans are scary; they are some monsters that would eat them for breakfast. Demons for instance but this was not the best time to talk about the beings that even made many immortals shiver.
"Human beings are quite scary and they could be capable of great evil."
"You know I keep thinking of what would have happened if you did not come or the Captain’s mind was wiped."
"Don’t do that. Don’t think of things that could be, things that are not. It would just make you feel worse." Ravi was not sure how he should console Lisa, and he wished that he had come with Arlen or Malik.
"You are doing a good job comforting me if that is what you are worried about." For the first time since he entered the ward, Lisa smiled.
"Who said I was worried about that?"
Lisa smiled again, "If something like this happened to you and the person that you trusted turned into something like that. What would you do?" She helped herself to the soft bun and even tore one apart to put some of the cucumber salad before closing it up and having it like a sandwich.
Ravi considered her question seriously, "If it was before I would drink wine until I felt better but now, I would come home." To Arlen and Asher. Malik, Sage, and Lana.
Lisa furrowed her brows, she wanted to ask if The Captain should become a serial killer but it was as if Ravi did not register the question properly, like he did not even consider the fact that it was possible for Arlen to betray her.
She had thought like that once too. But it was a pity, just before her train of thought could skew, Lisa got herself and shook her head. She did not want to become the kind of person who would see the world in just shades of gray but she knew that it would be difficult for her to do it all on her own.
"I think I would take a little leave and go to the Capital. I have not seen my mother in years."
She finished the food and kept the flask on her bedside. Ravi was opposite her and they were quiet for a while.
"So what is your real ability? Would you ever tell me?"
Ravi was quiet, it was not like it was some heaven-shattering secret and Lisa had already seen him stop time, teleport a person from and back, and even more crazy things.
When he did not answer, she was quiet and looked outside the window.
Ravi missed Lisa who would bug him for the answer. There was a knock on the door and the two of them looked in the direction simultaneously.
Asher who had opened the door was a little shocked but he walked up to the bed and showed Lisa the cup of yogurt that he had gotten for her.
"When you feel like you have gotten better. Ask me again and I will tell you."
"Is that a promise? Your nephew is here so you can not break it ever."
"Miss Johnson should not worry, Ravi never breaks his promise."
Lisa looked at Ravi whose hazel eyes were soft as he gazed at the young boy and the image of the Ravi she met soon stood by her side. And for the first time, Lisa completely believed that she would be alright.
People can change. She would overcome this and be an even better person.
