Chapter 42: Chapter 41: Coveting My Man

But at the next moment, Xu Xiuxiu bluntly left Lu Xiangxiang without a face to save, "However—" Xu Xiuxiu cut herself off halfway through, "It seems it’s not just me who doesn’t recognize you, my husband Song Yuanhuan apparently doesn’t even know your name to this day, so, young lady, can you please stop shamelessly throwing yourself at my man?" Xu Xiuxiu’s words were clearly hurtful, like a blade that instantly pierced the other person with a thousand cuts.

"How is that possible? Major Song, he couldn’t possibly forget me." Tears welled up in Lu Xiangxiang’s eyes, her steps unsteady as if she couldn’t stand properly. She couldn’t believe that Song Yuanhuan wouldn’t even know her name; after all, they had met several times, and he had even complimented her on dancing well.

Yes, Xu Xiuxiu must be lying to her. Song Yuanhuan, Major Song, must fancy her; it was just because of this woman’s status that he couldn’t speak highly of her in her presence! Yes, that must be it!

Lu Xiangxiang’s outburst was too obvious. The short-haired woman who had come up with her immediately stepped forward to demand justice, "Mrs. Song, we address you respectfully as our sister-in-law, so could you please not speak so distastefully? She’s still just a girl, the words you spoke today, if they were to get out, how could she have any face to stay in the military?" It was obvious that she was standing on Lu Xiangxiang’s side to accuse Xu Xiuxiu.

Unconcerned, Xu Xiuxiu shook her head, then got up from the grass, patted her pale blue dress, and her beautiful eyes leisurely swept towards the short-haired woman, "First, if you want to save face, then please don’t do shameless things. Second, I’m not one for grace and can’t stand other women eyeing my man while still giving face to them. Third, it was she who came to me to start trouble today, so before you step forward making accusations, make sure you understand the situation." Her voice was hard to accept, yet clear as oriole’s singing. Her delicate figure stood gracefully under the big tree, the breeze gently lifting the hem of her dress, fluttering up, a vision of beauty.

This woman was exquisitely astonishing.

"Do you have anything else you’d like to refute or add?" Xu Xiuxiu looked at the two of them, then bent down to take a small water bottle from Song Chengguang’s hands and placed it properly, pulled down the sunshade on the stroller, and then turned back kindly to look at the two of them, dazed behind her. She didn’t care to hear a few more unpleasant words, nor did she care to say some unpleasant words for them to hear.

At the moment, Lu Xiangxiang was still lingering in heartbreak, and the short-haired woman was at a loss for words due to Xu Xiuxiu’s remarks, so neither of them responded to Xu Xiuxiu’s polite inquiry.

Seeing this, Xu Xiuxiu politely nodded her head and pushed the stroller away.

No sooner had the stroller been slowly pushed away, Song Chengguang, the little one, who had been watching the drama for quite a while, immediately spoke about his thoughts, "Mommy, she she fierce."

"Is Chengguang scared?" Xu Xiuxiu asked gently, looking down.

"Scared?" Song Chengguang’s little eyes whirled around, and at his words, Xu Xiuxiu’s heart skipped a beat, just about to speak up to comfort the little guy, "No no, Chengcheng is a boy boy, no no." The little guy patted his chest, unaware of how adorably arrogant he appeared.

Seeing this, Xu Xiuxiu was somewhat between laughter and tears, although the little guy’s words were unclear, Xu Xiuxiu understood their meaning and shook her head, pushing the stroller away gradually into the distance.

Lu Xiangxiang stood in place, watching Xu Xiuxiu’s retreating figure, so angry she almost bit through a silver tooth, then angrily shook off the short-haired woman holding her wrist and turned to run away, wiping away tears.

...

Xu Xiuxiu made a last-minute decision to return to the military base without giving Song Yuanhuan any prior notice. When she arrived at Song Yuanhuan’s small dormitory and found it empty, she knew he must have gone to training. So, Xu Xiuxiu turned around and took Song Chengguang straight to the base’s large cafeteria. Having lived on the base for a few days before, the cafeteria chefs always had a good attitude towards Xu Xiuxiu, a military wife whose gentle temperament and stunning beauty stood out, naturally recognizing her.

When Xu Xiuxiu explained that she and Chengguang had just returned and missed lunch, the deputy chef took the initiative to fry up a portion of cured pork and a dish of greens for them. After gratefully eating, Xu Xiuxiu was enthusiastically given several large snow pears.

By the time Xu Xiuxiu returned to the dormitory with Song Chengguang, it was already two in the afternoon. She inspected the room and found it as empty as before but didn’t pay it much mind. She fetched a basin of water and started to clean some dirty spots.

Half an hour later, what had been a slightly unkempt dormitory was once again thoroughly tidied up by Xu Xiuxiu.

Because they couldn’t take a nap that day, Xu Xiuxiu cleaned while letting Song Chengguang lie on the bed. The little guy played by himself until he fell asleep, which relieved Xu Xiuxiu since she could clean without having to keep an eye on him.

By the time the little guy woke up from his nap, it was already evening. Growing a bit bored staying in the room, Xu Xiuxiu carried the little one to the nearby small playground. From her previous family visits, she knew that this was a gathering place for the military relatives, and the kindergarten run by the Military District was also nearby.

"Major Song’s family? You’re back?" Ma Xiaohua had a cheerful personality and was quite popular among the other military wives, displaying great enthusiasm which is generally reciprocated with kindness, especially here in the military where everyone is directly related and there was no intent to strain relationships. Therefore, Ma Xiaohua stood out among the group of military families.

When Xu Xiuxiu pushed the baby stroller to the small playground, a group of military wives were gathered around the small lawn, chatting and knitting, creating quite a lively scene.

Xu Xiuxiu had initially planned just to walk around the playground and leave, but Ma Xiaohua called out to her. Recognizing a familiar face and a neighbor, Xu Xiuxiu greeted her with a smile, "Yes! I was free recently, so I decided to spend a few days back at the base."

"Aunt Xiuxiu!" Zhao Nan had been in the military for a few months and had become chummy with many children. The kids were playing boisterously when they spotted Xu Xiuxiu from afar and thought the pretty aunt looked familiar, murmuring to each other about her beauty. As Xu Xiuxiu approached pushing the stroller, Zhao Nan immediately recognized her and excitedly ran up to say hello.

"Zhao Nan is here, too? It’s been a while. You’ve grown taller and look more spirited," Xu Xiuxiu said, looking down at the child in front of her who had tanned but seemed lively and energetic, before she praised him.

"Auntie, the little brother has grown too," Zhao Nan said, scratching his head and flashing his white teeth. One could tell that his time in the military had made him more cheerful.

"Play, play," Song Chengguang didn’t remember Zhao Nan, but the little guy stretched out his arms, calling out. Xiuxiu saw this and did not interfere; she took the excited Song Chengguang, who was kicking his little legs, out of the stroller and onto the grass, "Zhao Nan, can you help Auntie keep an eye on your little brother?" As soon as Song Chengguang’s short legs hit the ground, he raced off towards the group of kids, his face brimming with countless smiles.
