I Became a Farmer in Another World-Chapter 14: Allies, Betrayal, and the Church’s Move
Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Allies, Betrayal, and the Church’s Move
"Welcome to the team, Charlotte," said Grace.
Hearing Grace's invitation, Charlotte was shocked.
"Huh? Am I really allowed to join the team?" Charlotte asked.
Grace simply smiled at her words.
"Of course. Don't you also have a grudge against the kingdom?" Grace replied.
"But I once fought against all of you, especially you, Grace," Charlotte said.
Then, Aurelia responded,
"Don't worry about it. Grace isn't the type to hold grudges," Aurelia said.
Ryutaro then added,
"Yeah, as long as you don't make her angry, you'll be fine," Ryutaro said.
Hearing that, Charlotte felt relieved. After all, their first meeting had started with a fight.
"Alright then, I look forward to working with all of you," Charlotte said.
After Charlotte decided to join, Aurelia, who was standing beside Ryutaro, began teasing him.
"Looks like another girl has entered your life, Ryutaro," Aurelia said.
Ryutaro could only sigh.
"I just hope nothing bad happens," he replied.
However, Aurelia continued her teasing.
"But my intuition says otherwise. Who knows, maybe they'll start competing over you," Aurelia said mischievously.
Hearing Aurelia's teasing, both Charlotte and Grace blushed. Meanwhile, Ryutaro immediately knocked Aurelia on the head.
"Stop talking nonsense, or I'll make you work in the fields for a whole week without rest," Ryutaro warned.
Hearing that threat, Aurelia panicked slightly.
"Eh? Don't be like that! Fine, fine, I'll keep quiet... for now," Aurelia said.
"For now, huh..." Ryutaro sighed deeply.
Everyone then laughed, seeing how Ryutaro could only resign himself to Aurelia's antics.
Meanwhile, at the royal palace...
A commander had just arrived at the grand hall, where King Albert sat on his throne.
"Your Majesty, I have arrived," the commander reported.
"Oh, it's you. Tell me, did Charlotte succeed in defeating him?" King Albert asked.
"No, Your Majesty. She failed," the commander replied.
The entire room fell silent for a moment.
"What? Even the church's envoy wasn't strong enough to defeat him?"
"How is that possible? He was just an ordinary farmer!"
"Could he become a real threat to the kingdom?"
King Albert raised his hand, signaling for silence. Then, he ordered the commander to explain the situation.
"Explain what happened," King Albert commanded.
"Yes, Your Majesty," the commander responded.
The commander then recounted everything from the beginning—their encounter, Charlotte's battle with Grace, how Charlotte surrendered upon seeing Ryutaro and Grace, and even mentioned Aurelia.
"Hmm... So that's what happened. Not only the Demon Queen but also the Dragon Queen has become his ally," King Albert mused.
"That's correct, Your Majesty. I confirmed it myself," the commander replied.
"But you carried out my orders, didn't you?" King Albert asked.
"Of course, Your Majesty. I eliminated her as per your command," the commander assured.
"Good. Fortunately, I had a backup plan in case she betrayed me," King Albert said with a satisfied smile.
He then instructed one of his envoys to retrieve gold from the treasury to compensate the church for Charlotte's "death."
"Envoy, come here," King Albert called.
The envoy quickly approached.
"What is your command, Your Majesty?" the envoy asked.
"Retrieve some gold from the treasury and deliver it to the church. Make sure to provide a dramatic reason so they don't suspect anything," King Albert ordered.
"As you wish, Your Majesty," the envoy responded.
The envoy immediately went to the treasury, took some gold, and proceeded to the church to deliver it.
At the church...
The envoy entered the grand church hall, where numerous slaves, seemingly addicted to narcotics, lay scattered. These drugs were supplied by Archbishop Bifrons, who used them before engaging in his debaucheries.
At the front of the hall stood Archbishop Bifrons, just finishing his business with one of the slaves. He quickly pulled up his pants when he noticed the envoy's arrival.
"Report, Archbishop Bifrons. I bring news from His Majesty," the envoy said.
"Oh? And what news is that?" Bifrons asked.
"His Majesty informs you that Charlotte has died on the battlefield. As compensation, he has also sent gold," the envoy explained.
Bifrons looked displeased upon hearing this.
"Tell me, who killed her?" Bifrons demanded.
The envoy promptly answered,
"Reporting, Your Excellency. The one who killed her was Ryutaro."
"Ryutaro? That name sounds familiar. Who is he?" Bifrons asked.
"He was the hero summoned here, but the king discarded him because he had a useless job," the envoy explained.
Bifrons frowned.
"Tell me the truth. If he had a useless job, how could he kill Charlotte?" he asked.
"That's because he has two powerful allies," the envoy replied.
"Two allies? Who are they?" Bifrons inquired.
"The first is the Demon Queen, Grace. She was sealed for 500 years in the Black Forest—where Ryutaro was abandoned. Somehow, the seal holding her was broken," the envoy explained.
"Interesting... So you're implying that Ryutaro broke the seal?" Bifrons asked.
"We're not sure, but all signs point to him," the envoy said.
"Intriguing... Who is the second ally?" Bifrons pressed further.
"The second ally belongs to the Dragon race," the envoy revealed.
"A Dragon? What do you mean?" Bifrons asked.
"Yes, but not just any Dragon. She is the Dragon Queen, Aurelia Snowmourne," the envoy explained.
"Hmm... Interesting. Not only the Demon Queen but also the Dragon Queen," Bifrons muttered.
He then grabbed a pouch of gold.
"What a shame. I never got to taste Charlotte, and now she's dead," Bifrons said, licking his lips.
Then, a sinister plan formed in his mind.
"Fine. If we can't have Charlotte, we'll take the other two women instead," he said with a wicked grin.
He then instructed the envoy,
"Tell His Majesty that I will personally deal with them. I will make my move next month."
"As you command, Your Excellency," the envoy replied before hastily returning to the palace.
Back at the royal palace...
The envoy quickly entered the grand hall.
"Reporting, Your Majesty. I have delivered your message," the envoy said.
"Oh? You've returned. Tell me, what was his response?" King Albert asked.
"The church will send one of its archbishops to eliminate Ryutaro," the envoy reported.
"Oh? And who will they send?" King Albert asked.
"Archbishop Bifrons."
The entire hall erupted in commotion.
"What? Archbishop Bifrons?"
"Isn't he the biggest drug dealer in the kingdom?"
"And he's interested in Ryutaro? Don't tell me he's after his women!"
King Albert rose from his throne.
"Archbishop Bifrons? Are you certain?" he asked.
"Yes, Your Majesty. He said it himself," the envoy confirmed.
"But when will they act?" King Albert asked.
"Next month, Your Majesty."
"Next month, huh? Excellent."

King Albert laughed, thrilled by the church's involvement.
"Perfect. With Bifrons in action, Ryutaro stands no chance of winning," King Albert said with a sinister grin.
He then muttered,
"Ryutaro, oh Ryutaro... You may have won today, but next month, you'll lose everything you hold dear."
The royal court rejoiced, unaware that Charlotte was still alive.
Meanwhile, at Ryutaro's house...
Charlotte and Aurelia sat on the sofa while Ryutaro and Grace were busy in the kitchen.
Charlotte turned to Aurelia and asked,
"By the way, Aurelia, why did you join Ryutaro? You don't have a grudge against the kingdom, do you?"
Aurelia casually replied,
"That's because I'm being hunted by Ashen Fang."
Charlotte's eyes widened.
"You mean that infamous dragon-hunting group? Why are they after you?"
Aurelia revealed the truth, leaving Charlotte utterly shocked.
"So they're after you because of that core?" Charlotte asked.
"Yup, exactly," Aurelia confirmed.
"Oh, I see. Don't worry, I'll protect you no matter what," Charlotte assured her.
"Alright. I trust you," Aurelia said with a smile.
As the two bonded, Ryutaro and Grace remained unaware that the church had already begun making its move.
What will happen next? Will they survive the church's attack next month? And what will Charlotte do when she learns the truth about the church she once served?
