I Became My Healer Elf Character-Chapter 101: Spider Sea
Hikari looked across the horizon aboard the ship. Ever since she'd finished off the dark goddess, Amelia refused to talk to her. However, Hikari would not take back her actions. Originally, she wanted the pink-haired goddess to take care of the whole problem on her own, but the elven goddess realized the truth.
Edith would never find solace while alive. Most of her sense of reason had truly vanished, and she wanted nothing more than death. Death was the greatest mercy that Hikari could give her, and forcing her to continue living with nothing to live for would be agonizing.
Gods and goddesses weren't like humans. Some of them were closer to humans emotionally, but someone like Edith was entirely different. No matter how long she lived, she'd never forget her pain, and she would hold onto it forever.
Hikari sighed. "I just hope that Amelia will come to that understanding. Besides…"
"Master? Are you still thinking about that? You did what you had to do. If I was in your position, I would have done the same. I can't imagine a world without Master also, so if I was in her position...I think I'd want someone to do the same to me."
Hikari chuckled and hugged the dragon closer to her. "Don't go killing me off yet. I still have many things I want to do. You still have to travel with me to Earth to learn all of the culture."
The dragon smiled. "Of course, Master. I do have one question though. Isn't it possible that you can bring Edith back?"
Hikari shrugged. "Death is not the worst thing. I'm sure she's enjoying herself right about now. A goddess never truly dies."
Ayase arrived at that moment. "What are you two talking about? Amelia won't stop groaning, but I guess that's understandable. I don't really think she's mad at you though, Hikari. From the outside, it looks like she's angry with herself. I'm sure she wanted to be the one to do something about her sister, and I'm sure that a large part of her is relieved that it's all over. But, she did ask me to deliver you a message."
Hikari raised her eyebrow. "Oh? What's that?"
"She said she's going back to her domain to spend some time there and to not bother her. I imagine she'll use this time to grieve."
The elven goddess nodded. "Leave her be. When the time comes, I'm sure she'll seek us out on her own. If not, I know how to get there anyway."
Mizuko appeared from the shadows after a pause in their conversation. "Mistress, it seems like the ship will be docking soon. They found an island where a lot of those spiders convene. Also, it seems like many people are talking about a white apparition in the sky."
Hikari frowned at the last part of her words. "I just hope they won't connect this apparition to me. I'm not really interested in gaining more followers right now. I want to see the wonders of the Empire, and after that, I want to see [Gensuba] again."
"Master, you really plan on going back there?"
"Well, the kids are also back there, but it seems they're being taken care of. I want to see that place again with my own eyes."
It was hard for Hikari to explain that she wanted to visit the world of the game in reality. Doing so would grant her a unique perspective that no one who played the game would have, and she can compare the differences of the two fantasy worlds.
Either way, the ship anchored itself further away from the shore. People began to lower the boats into the sea.
Hikari explained to the captain that her group didn't need such a thing. They flew to the island ahead of everyone.
In terms of size, the island was tiny. It could barely house a town comfortably, but there were several creatures roaming about. Large turtles waded through the sand. A few colorful birds landed on the trees. If someone wanted to live in a peaceful place away from civilization this would be good for them.
Ayase landed on the sand before all of the others. "This place sort of reminds me of my home here."
"Where exactly is your home here?" Hikari asked.
"It's pretty far towards the place that the locals call the dragon islands. It's high up in the clouds and free from external threats. There are tori gates built there to worship the snakes of this world."
Hikari nodded. "You always did love snakes. I remember you telling me that before."
"And I recall you said you loved dragons." Ayase looked towards Kurayami. "I didn't think you meant in this sort of fashion."
"Hey, you can't bully me for that. You love in elf. Inter species relationships seem to be alive and well in this world."
"Gross," Ayase said, "please never say that again."
Hikari chuckled as they continued walking inland. Eventually, they managed to find an abandoned boat. It served as the only man made object on the entire thing. Worse is the boat was practically empty. Hikari expected to find at least one treasure.
I suppose it's not that simple. If this were a game all of these hidden things would inevitably contain treasure. In reality, if people washed up here in this small boat, they likely didn't have valuables to begin with.
"Fisherman?" She asked.
An answer came from behind as the other crewmen finally started arriving. Lord Vuldragon placed a hand to his chin and observed the scene. "I would say that's the most likely answer. It's not uncommon for fishermen to get lost at sea, and the boat was probably pushed towards the interior during strong winds."
"I see…"
The lord shrugged it off. "We've a duty to do here anyway. I hope you'll have no difficulty finishing the assignments given to you."
"Master would have no difficulty with any task, and you should consider yourself lucky that she even dares to help in this."

Hikari patted her dragon's head. "There, there…"
The dragon leaned into the pats and purred. "Master…"
Lord Vuldragon resisted his building urge to laugh at the situation. He sighed and shook his head. "Let's just start the hunt. We have many people on standby with tools to aid in underwater breathing. All of the crewmen who need it, should take one of those orbs. There are also flippers packed in the boats for aiding in swimming."
Once again, Hikari found herself impressed with some of the technology of this world. However, she also had no idea when flippers were invented on Earth. The elf shrugged as the crew began preparing.
"I guess, we will go and check out these spiders ourselves. I've heard a lot about them. It's only fair I can finally see them with my own eyes."
The lord nodded. "You going in early will be a bonus to all of us." He looked around at the other adventurers. "And if any of you want to join her, feel free to do so. This is for the protection of the whole crew."
Hikari waved and led her group back towards the ocean on the other of the island. The ocean lapped at the shore in the early morning daylight. Several turtles crawled towards the sea.
"I wonder if it was their season for egg laying? Do turtles have such a thing?"
Ayase shrugged. "I have no idea about turtles."
Hikari looked at her incredulously. "Weren't you a vet?"
The witch frowned. "A vet doesn't necessarily know about all animals. There are some that are geared towards specific ones."
"Yes, but I thought you were a reptile vet. Or did you only care about snakes?"
The witch blushed and refused to look at Hikari.
Hikari laughed and focused her attention back on the ocean. "The water is so clear, but I can't see any of those spiders anywhere."
"They like to hide in underwater burrows or caves. It's common to find them underneath reefs."
"This would be nightmare fuel to most earthlings. Imagine they are going into the ocean, and they pull up a random rock, only to find that a spider has crawled out of it."
Kurayami recoiled from the description. "Master! Please, don't say such things!"
"Don't tell me...You're afraid of spiders?"
"I'm not afraid of spiders, Master. I just don't like anything that crawls out from under rocks! They're vermin who deserve to be squashed."
Hikari decided not to press the dragon anymore, simply nodding and stepping off into the water. The elf dove beneath the surface, finding another gorgeous landscape.
Many colorful fishes swam among the reef, yet there were no real predators to be found. However, there were many large holes in the reef that could hide the spiders. And on the edge of some of those holes she'd already spotted their goal. She used magic to focus her eyes on the reef.
On closer inspection, there were thousands of holes, going for hundreds of meters. And almost all of them had thin strands of white fibers. The elf turned and looked towards her group.
"It looks like we've hit the jackpot."
