I Became My Healer Elf Character-Chapter 111: A Strange Cat
Hikari looked at the strange cat girl with a raised eyebrow. In terms of her condition, there wasn't anything physically wrong with her, but it seemed the shock had effected her mind enough to make the poor girl start dry heaving.
"Syndra, was it? We should get somewhere private and discuss your predicament there."
The girl nodded, her face much calmer than before. Hikari's spells worked wonders on the cat girl's psych.
Hikari walked up to the innkeeper and placed a coin on the table. "The biggest room you have, please."
The innkeeper nodded and pointed to the stairs. "That will be the last room on the second floor. Take this key with you."
Hikari grabbed the key and led her dragon and the cat to the second floor room. In terms of inns she'd been in before, this one was a bit unique. Everything was made of dark red wood. It seemed the innkeepers hollowed out a tree nearby to the titan forest. A preliminary inspection of people here yielded that most were at least level 500 at this point. Syndra had the highest level of anyone Hikari had seen since using the way gate.
Initially, her companions wished for her to start ruling over everything, but Hikari found it silly. She had an explorer's heart, and she was curious about all of it. Moreover, it wasn't like she had to hide her status as a goddess. She just wouldn't tell people intentionally.
Either way, when they arrived at the room, Syndra breathed a sigh of relief. "This is so hard to believe. One second I am crossing the road, and the next…"
"Was it truck-kun?" Hikari asked.
The girl chuckled and shook her head. "No, there was a truck, but it never hit me. The world just seemed to freeze around me. Unless truck-kun has magic powers, then it wasn't him." The girl stared at Hikari, still not quite believing what her eyes told her. "Still, I can't fathom that you're still alive. There were a lot of forum threads saying you must have died."
"In the end, I could have simply taken a vacation, no?"
"Wait!" The cat shouted, suddenly realizing something. "Doesn't that mean your situation is just like mine? You said I reincarnated so easily before. Did that happen to you?"
Hikari placed a finger on her lips and shook her head. "There is no need to yell. However, my situation is not very similar to yours at all. For one, I didn't wake up in this world to begin with."
"You didn't wake up in this world? What do you mean?"
"I was sent to a world of my own creation it seems. Though, I'm still puzzling if that is really the case."
"Your own creation? Did you reincarnate as a goddess or something?"
Kurayami shook her head. "Master has always been a goddess."
Hikari shrugged. "Well, that's about the size of it."
"What do you mean, 'that's about the size of it?' This doesn't explain anything. If you were always a goddess, then why would you be a player...And…"
The elf once again cast a calming spell on the cat. "You really ought to calm down. Your emotions are out of control. Let me take it from the top. I have memories of being a player, but I have no memories of being transported. It was like one second I am playing a game, and the next second, I'm in an entirely new world. The moment I read my stats, it said goddess, but I never had that in the game world."
"Master?"
"Yes, a lot of my memories are out of sorts, but I think I did a lot of things that I don't remember." Hikari paused, looking back towards the cat kin. "Anyway, that is entirely removed from your situation."
After processing it a bit, Syndra nodded. "So, that means you're the goddess I see on reincarnation?"
"Huh?"
"You know, those isekai stories on Earth I always read. Are you going to give me a boon?"
"Master, I think she might have hit her head hard on the floor when I grabbed her tail."
"I did not! It's just that the goddess you meet when you're transmigrated always has something special to give. Will you really not give me something special?" The cat's tone completely changed as she made puppy dog eyes and pleaded.
"What's the deal with you?" Hikari asked. "One second you're about to vomit, and now you're asking for a boon?"
"Well…" The girl once again made the same face.
Though Hikari's expression betrayed very little, it was a face that pulled on her heart strings. The drooping little tail of the cat made her feel pity for Syndra. Hikari breathed a long sigh.
"Fine, I will give you something, so just stop doing that please!"
"Yay!"
Hikari rifled through the many hundreds of thousands of items in her inventory, trying to find something that would suit the cat girl. Though, a bigger part of her wondered why she had to give the girl anything to begin with. She only had the smallest memory of ever traveling with her in [Gensuba].
The elf shook her head, eventually finding something. It was a silver-chained blue locket that matched the cat girl's fluff.
"Here you go. This can be considered a 'boon' as you said, since it gives a permanent boost."
The cat girl blushed and shyly took the locket from Hikari's hands. "Th-thank you."
"Why are you acting so coy now? Did you not think I would really give you something?"
"Well…"
The dragon frowned from the display happening before her eyes. "Master…"
"What? Don't look at me like that. It's not my fault that everyone is so incomprehensible. A normal person would not act like this cat. Would a normal person even trust a random elf that they'd went on a singular adventure with?"
"You're not a random elf!" Syndra protested. "Everyone in the game knew who you were. They talked about you all of the time on the forums, stating that you're the best healer to ever play. And when you disappeared all of the sudden, a lot of people were worried. You have a lot of fans. Besides, you've made this situation a lot easier. It's like your presence is a calming force of nature. Are you like the Goddess of Calmness?"
Hikari shook her head. "No, but I guess you can say that my domain is something that gives people calmness, if you count that."
"Well, are you going to tell me?"
"You're awfully pushy for someone who I've just met. Besides, you should be more worried about your own situation. Didn't you leave behind a family or something?"
"I did, but I'm too levelheaded right now. Also, I have a feeling that you could take me back to meet them, so I will just stick with you for now."
Hikari looked up at the ceiling as if to gaze up at gods that would surely come to help her. What kind of god would be above her anyway? So far those questions hadn't been answered. The only reason she arrived here in this town at the edge of the forest was that she wanted to test if the way gates still worked.
Wait a second...I use a way gate. I'm transported to a town I've been to before in the game, and then one of those players is reincarnated and standing in front of me.
Sometimes a coincidence was just a coincidence, but sometimes there were too many coincidences stacked up on top of each other for them to all be happenstance. The elf put a hand to her chin, attempting to puzzle it out, but nothing could really come to her mind. The only theory was that some other goddess had brought the cat before her for some reason. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Hikari inspected the pendant that Syndra had been playing with to be sure that she didn't give something too extraordinary.
[Pendant of Hope Found] – This pendant was forged where the domain of hope touches reality. As such, the wearer of this pendant is immune to all negative status effects. This is including the permanent status effects of [Death] and [Aging]. Never again will the wearer reach complete despair, especially if the wearer's goddess is around. Additionally, no one can force the pendant off of this wearer, with the exception of the Light of Hope.
The elf could only helplessly read the status effect with a wry smile. Maybe it was better to ignore it and turn to other matters. With a nod of her head, the elven goddess vowed to ignore it.
She turned to her dragon instead. "Do you think we should let the others come here now?"
"Master, I was hoping we could have a date with just me and you."
The cat's mouth flopped open. "You two are dating?"
Kurayami smirked, her competitive spirit roaring to life. "Not only are we dating, kitten. We've gone all the way."
Syndra blushed and flailed her arms. "No way!"
