I Became My Healer Elf Character-Chapter 122: Fate’s Big Waves
By the time the next day rolled around, the air ship had already begun landing. The steam propelled it down towards the ground. Hikari watched the descent unto a grassy clearing.
There were no landing pads for the blimp way out here, and the city up ahead was completely different. Mushroom houses were sprawled out everywhere, and the largest part of the place was a giant mushroom that stood at least two dragons tall.
The odd thing about all of these mushroom houses were the seemingly normal people walking about on the streets. Woven between each house were small wooden roads, and people walked about cheerfully, carrying baskets or other implements. They did notice the ship landing, but most of them paid it no mind. It was as if they'd seen the event happen numerous times.
While Hikari walked down the hall with her friends, the captain of the ship had finally decided to speak to her.
The dwarven man walked up next to her and puffed down on his wooden pipe. He inhaled and blew out a strange purple mist. "Ah, there's nothing like the everbloom of this place."
Hikari nodded, looking at the purple resin inside of the pipe. She'd seen it numerous times behind the game screen. Everbloom was a healing herb that was native to these mushroom forests. It could be taken several different ways. Grinding it up and smoking it was sure to make a different effect though. It numbed the body, and if one took too much, it could produce faint hallucinations.
In the game, the effect of the hallucinations was that the screen would get sort of blurry, and things would get more colorful while one controlled their character. Hikari had never done the act herself, but she'd seen numerous others do it. And they deemed it necessary to share with people their experience.
Hikari decided to answer the dwarf. "You smoke that stuff often?"
"Aye, it helps me to fly properly. If not for this stuff, we'd have crashed down in the middle of some tree. Wouldn't want that to happen." The dwarf chuckled. "Though, I imagine that wouldn't do much to yourself."
The elf shrugged and looked towards the exit. "If that's all, then we'll be taking our leave now. Thanks for the transport."
"There's no need to be so quaint. If I can, I wanted to ask you a question."
"What is it?"
The dwarf lowered his voice, so only the elf and her friends could hear. "I just wanted to know what you're traveling here for. It must be something big if you're involved."
"Hmm?"
"What I'm saying is, will the people here be safe?"
Hikari narrowed her eyes. "Just because a goddess is involved in something doesn't necessarily mean it's trouble. We can just say that I'm going to meet an old friend."
"Right, but anytime a goddess goes somewhere, a large fate goes with her. The bigger the person is, the more the ground quakes in their movements. Don't you think fate is the same? Anytime you create a splash, a big wave is sure to follow."
Hikari shrugged. "That might be true, but such a thing will not stop me from acting. Big waves are constant in these worlds. That's because mortals are always fighting each other. Think about this, I create big waves that I can fix myself. Mortals will create big waves as a mass, and then they will never solve their problem. How many wars were prolonged because of their differences?"
The dwarf laughed heartily. "Right you are. At least I can fly out of here with a clear conscience. I just wanted to see what kind of goddess you are."
"Happy?"
The dwarven captain nodded. "I'll be seeing you."
Hikari waved goodbye and started down the wooden ramp with her followers. The smell of mushrooms was strong. The earthy scent gave this place a unique aroma.
Syndra wrinkled her face from the sight. "I like a lot of foods, but I hate mushrooms."
Hikari tilted her head. "Why is that?"
"There are plenty of reasons to hate them. They have a strange flavor, they have a strange texture, and worst of all, they're phallic shaped. I have no idea why someone would build a whole city of mushrooms. Can we please meet the person and be done with this place?"
The elf chuckled at the kitten's monologue. She couldn't exactly deny any of the things she said, but neither did she agree that mushrooms were bad.
Kurayami was also quick to agree with the kitten. "I also don't like them, Master. For one thing, they're not even meat, and they make me think of creepy little crawlies. I want to step on them and stop them from reproducing."
Hikari burst into a fit of laughter, barely able to contain herself. She patted her dragon on the head and smiled. "Okay, we won't stay in this city if that's what you want. Besides, the person we want to meet is not here anyway. Look at this map."
The elf pointed towards a place in the mushroom forest, some distance away from them. "It seems like the person is somewhere here."
"Master, that means we'll have to walk through a whole forest of them. Can't we just fly over there on my back?"
The elf looked towards the mushroom city a small distance away. "Yeah, but what will happen if they see a dragon flying around?"
"Master, [Gensuba] is not like the other world. Dragons flying around is a much more common sight."
The vampire girl of the group nodded. "I'm of a mind with Kurayami. We've already had our fun. I think it's time that you meet this person. Besides, I think I have some kind of inkling who it is."
"You do?"
Mizuko nodded. "Though, telling you won't change anything. Besides, she should welcome you with open arms. Anyway, the sooner we complete this quest, the sooner that I can make love to my mistress."
Hikari watched the vampire show off her fangs in a bright smile before the girl licked her lips.
The elf shook her head. "You're all going to be the death of me, you know that?"
"That's impossible," Kurayami said, "Master can't die."
"Whatever, let's just get a move on. You know what to do, my steed."
Kurayami tilted her head at the strange nickname. Ultimately she shrugged it off. "I will let Master ride any time."
A large cloud of black smoke emanated from the dragon girl. In seconds, she appeared in her dark dragon form. The black scales were as pretty as Hikari remembered. The elf leapt into the air and flapped her wings once, landing on the dragon girl's neck.
The other girls jumped up behind her, and Syndra ended up being the closest. The cat girl wrapped her arms around Hikari. "It looks like I won the best seat."
"How the heck did this happen?" Hikari asked.
"I won rock, paper, scissors. Being an assassin comes with its perks. When you have sleight of hand, it's a hard game to lose."
"She cheated!" Ayase complained.
"If you can't prove anything, then it didn't happen. Nothing was stopping you from using some witchcraft."
"If I did that, then Mizuko would have picked up on it."
Hikari laughed as the dragon started flapping its wings. "Being with you all has been so fun."
Syndra smiled and tightened her grip around the elf's waist. "We're thinking the same thing about you. I'm just happy that you've been there for me. You've given me Hope when I thought I was going to be all alone. Pun intended."
The elf sighed and shook her head. "I'm surrounded by dorks. I guess that's what happens when you start dating gamer girls and vampires."
"What about the dragon?"
"Oh, Kurayami? She's included in the gamer girls. Remember how much fun she had with that card game? I bet if she was on Earth she'd have been playing those kinds of games at conventions. She'd probably be a main attraction."
The cat girl laughed. "She'd be like a real life streamer avatar. She'd attract endless people from those communities."
Kurayami nodded her head, bouncing the two girls around. "That game was fun, Master. I want to play Master again. We can have even higher stakes."
"What kind of stakes are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about stakes where the loser has to do something for the winner, Master. Like sexual favors."
The elf sighed and smacked the dragon on the back of the neck, knowing that ultimately it wouldn't do anything. "Is sex all you girls think about? Sometimes I feel like I'm surrounded by a bunch of horny vixens."
Kurayami blew a puff of black smoke from her nostrils. "Master is equally horny. After all, the only reason we're like this is because you're such a temptress."
Hikari looked back at the other girls, but all of them turned away at the same time, neither confirming or denying Kurayami's words. "Whatever, just focus on flying!"
"But Master, we're already here."
