At long last, the long-awaited debutante ball of Thersion was about to begin.
“You can do this!”
Alexa cheered herself on, looking at her reflection in the mirror. How much effort had she put in for this day? Seeing her clenched fists, the maids burst into laughter. Though she had grown, Alexa was still small, and her tiny, determined fists looked so adorable that they couldn’t help but want to pinch them. Her outfit today, in particular, was combative.
Essellia had been ready to empty out a vault for Alexa’s debutante ball, and perhaps because of that, her dressing room now shimmered so brilliantly it was almost blinding. In truth, Alexa kept chanting words of encouragement to herself not just out of nerves but to keep from being overwhelmed by the sheer radiance of the space.
‘I really told her I’d be fine...’
She stared blankly at the sparkling carbon embellishments on her shoes. Something so perilous was sitting right on footwear that could easily get dirty or damaged just by walking around.
‘And that’s really a diamond...?’
In her past life, she had never even seen a diamond up close, but here, she practically kicked them around with her feet. According to Visten, compared to the gold mine that Thersion had struck thanks to Alexa, this was nothing.
‘This definitely doesn’t feel like nothing, though.’
Alexa wiggled her toes inside her shoes. She wasn’t sure if she could even walk properly with such extravagance on her feet. The shoes had been custom-made just for today. Unlike the high-heeled shoes other young ladies wore, hers were designed with a lower heel for ease of movement, maximizing aesthetics while ensuring comfort for dancing. Quickly, she lifted her head and shifted her gaze back to the mirror. The more she fixated on them, the more uncomfortable she felt.
Of course, her formal attire was far from ordinary as well. When she had tried it on for fitting, it had simply been a pantsuit. But now... When she was told it had been changed to white, she hadn’t thought much of it.
Looking closely, however, it wasn’t just plain white. The intricate embroidery on the fabric was all done in silver thread. Her heart took another hit. So this was what it meant to be clad in silver, not just gold.
Gripping her trembling heart, Alexa straightened her posture and fixed her gaze on her reflection in the mirror. The Head Maid was skillfully arranging her hair into an elegant updo, braiding it and securing it in place before finishing it off with a delicate tiara. The gems on the tiara sparkled more brilliantly than light bulbs, but at this point, she no longer had the energy to ask what they were made of.
“Please turn your head this way, my Lady. Oh my, you did so well!”
“How dignified you look.”
“Now, look this way, please. It’s time to add the flowers.”
It was customary for a debutante to be adorned with seasonal flowers representing the month of their debut. Since it was the lively month of May, the gardens were overflowing with full-bloomed roses. And Essellia had chosen roses for Alexa. As a result, luscious pink blossoms were now nestled in her hair.
“Oh my! You look like a fairy.”
“You’re absolutely beautiful, my Lady! You truly look like the star of the night.”
Alexa pressed her lips together.
‘After spending all that money, if I didn’t look at least this good, I’d be the one to apologize...’
Amidst everyone’s praise, Alexa stepped out of the dressing room. As always, Ysildus and Terrun were waiting for her. And now, Jeremiah stood alongside them as well. Dressed in a deep navy suit, Jeremiah’s golden hair stood out vividly in contrast, a choice that only further accentuated his striking features.
“Jeremiah, you look amazing.”
“You look incredible too, Alexa.”
“Thank you.”
“What about us?”
“What about me, Alexa?”
Terrun and Ysildus chimed in one after the other. Alexa, who had been too nervous to turn her head, hesitantly tilted her stiff neck to look at them. Her gaze landed on Ysildus in a lavender dress and Terrun in a soft sky-blue dress.
They stood there with absolute confidence, as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Their hair was neatly combed, and they had accessorized with small earrings and necklaces, flawless in their elegance.
Ysildus smiled gracefully and asked, “So, what do you think, Alexa?”
“...Pretty...”
Alexa murmured.
“And me?”
“Terrsia, you’re pretty too...”
Satisfied, Ysildus and Terrun beamed and nodded. Ysildus then extended his right hand toward Alexa.
“Hmm?”
Tilting her head in curiosity, Alexa listened as Ysildus spoke.
“Give me your hand, Alexa.”
“Oh.”
Still dazed, Alexa placed her small hand atop his much larger one. Even though Ysildus was two years younger than her, his hands were noticeably bigger. Holding her hand gently, he carefully lifted it and tied a delicate flower bracelet around her wrist.
“...You know how to do this?”
Flicking the pink ribbon, Ysildus then lowered his lips to her hand in a gentlemanly kiss.
“I know how to do whatever you need, Alexa.”
“That includes dancing, of course.”
Ysildus chuckled and intertwined their fingers. Behind them, Terrun and Jeremiah stood ready. The twilight sky was now giving way to the full embrace of night. It was time.
Essellia and Countess Eneroff had arrived to escort them. With a resolute step, Alexa moved forward.
‘I can do this!!!’

This was the first grand ball held since the Lord of Thersion had returned. Naturally, all the nobles residing in Thersion had gathered. Among them were many young ladies Alexa’s age, all personally invited by Essellia. And now, they were finally meeting the girl at the center of all the rumors.
“Oh my, is that her? She’s so small. No wonder the Grand Duchy treasures her so much.”
“I heard she was the one who solved the plague in Thersion?”
“She also assists Baron Visten with administration from time to time.”
“She’s skilled in magic and even studies medicine...”
“So, what exactly can’t she do?”
Well, one thing Alexa wasn’t good at was dancing.
She, Ysildus, Terrun, and Jeremiah moved across the dance floor, the very picture of elegance, like graceful swans. Alexa’s face alternated between turning red and pale. Judging by the way people watched them, they were undoubtedly talking about them. Maybe about how she wasn’t wearing a dress.
“Ugh...”
“What’s wrong?”
“Everyone’s staring at us, Ysillia.”
“Of course. How could they not, when you look this beautiful?”
Ysildus tilted his head as if he found her concern strange.
“S-Saying such embarrassing things! The real beauty today is you, Ysillia!”
Repeating the words she had been conditioned to say, Alexa called out his name. Ysildus grinned and twirled.
“Then I suppose they must be looking at me. Since I’m so pretty.”
Your confidence makes it a little less embarrassing. Alexa couldn’t help but smile back. Behind them, Jeremiah and Terrun danced with practiced ease. Thanks to their rehearsals, Alexa didn’t miss a single step.
When the waltz ended, a crowd of peers immediately surrounded them. At first, Alexa had worried that her age-mates might find them strange. But she had underestimated what it meant to be in Thersion.
“Oh my gosh, Ysillia, that dress color is stunning! Where did you get it?”
Alexa blinked as she took in the scene. Once again, she was reminded, this was a strange world indeed.

Selina leaned against the second-floor railing, coldly observing the scene below. Seeing them laugh and chatter so carefreely was both pathetic... and frustrating. She rolled the bottle in her palm. Just a single drop of this poison, and that delicate little human would be gone forever. Her palms were slick with nervous sweat.
‘Just one drop is all it takes.’
Selina whispered to herself, as if she could already see the brilliant future that awaited her.
