A day later, after the rain cleared, at the Nington train station.
A handsome man in casual attire was sitting on a black recliner waiting for the train, a travel case resting between his legs.
Despite a rectangular platform nearby, people couldn’t help but openly stare, clearly intrigued. Brilliant sunlight bathed the man’s face revealing neatly arranged features and elegant eyes. His perfectly styled hair and overall demeanour gave off the impression of a scholar.
“Whoo~” a distant steam whistle sounded.
The man abruptly opened his eyes, instantly dissolving the image of the scholarly gentleman. He slowly turned his head to glance around, a cruel, indifferent air of arrogance radiated from him.
The discrepancy with his gentle demeanor was startling.
He stood up, one hand on the suitcase.
And set out quietly towards the nearby platform.
A smoke-billowing steam train steamed into the station as the conductor alighted and started shouting.
“This train goes from Nington City to Anta City! Please ensure you get on the right train! I’ll repeat, this train…”
Three days later, in East Sea County, the coastal city of Anta City was in view.
On the edge of the suburbs, upon a cart filled with fruit returning from the urban area to the village, sat a man dressed in black, looking into the distance.

Day passed into another, and in the Anta Mountains, away from the village in a remote area, on a narrow mountain road overgrown with weeds.
Casio, suitcase in hand, steadily made his way downhill. A beautiful light cascaded down from the gaps in the trees above, forking into golden pillars spreading across the uneven ground.
From afar, the occasional crisp chirping bird could be heard.
Suddenly, Casio stopped in his tracks, glancing to his right hand side.
Among the weeds, a weathered bronze pillar stood upright. The surface of the pillar was faded, yet atop it was a decoration resembling a lantern, bearing the word: Carriage.
Casio lifted his hand, a bronze bell in his palm.
Without hesitation, he gently shook the bell. Oddly, no sound emitted from the bell. Casio continued to shake it. Suddenly, the clear sky started to darken.
In the blink of an eye, the sky was as dark as night. Clouds gathered, blocking out the sun. With another shake of the bell, a light mist cascaded down from the heavens.
The rainwater dripped through the layers of leaves, sprinkling onto Casio’s face.
He was prepared and promptly raised an umbrella.
Lifting the edge of the umbrella slightly, Casio was astonished. The originally narrow path cluttered with weeds had now become a broad, flat mountain road, much like the woods had shifted to either side to provide an open path. It was strangely enigmatic and filled with a sense of mystery.
“Clip-clop, clip-clop, clip-clop…”
From a distance, the increasing sound of horse hooves echoed.
A moment later, a four-wheel carriage drawn by two sleek black horses came into view. The carriage was shrouded in black cloth with a semi-transparent curtain adorning the window. The body of the carriage was carved with mysterious incoherent runes. The driver of the carriage was a mysterious individual wrapped in a black cloak.
“Jingle, jingle, jingle…”
The bell in Casio’s hand rang out vividly.
His eyes flickered as he abruptly stowed it away. He then stood in place, keeping an eye on the carriage’s movements. As time ticked by, the carriage remained motionless, just as it was to begin with. The driver was as stationary as a corpse, even his chest didn’t rise or fall, he kept silent.
After glancing at his watch, Casio noted that more than nine minutes had passed. As he lifted his head, the carriage began to move slowly.
“This carriage stops for about ten minutes.”
Casio immediately drew a conclusion, and didn’t bother to test anything else. He picked up the suitcase and climbed aboard after a few quick strides.
The black carriage gradually gained speed on the mountain path…
