Chapter 95: 095 Shadow man (seeking subscription)_1
In the colour photograph, a large pile of antiques occupied the central area, resting in a corner at the edge of the frame was a silver pocket watch on a table. It was somewhat old but seemed well preserved. Carved on the cover of the watch, which was opened, were a large number of Genshao leaves.
Also engraved on the surface were two blurry letters: NZ.
NZ, Naz. Lixia’s elder martial brother, and Casio’s grand martial uncle.
This pocket watch was Naz’s legacy. Lixia gave this watch to Casio in the hope that he too could become as remarkable, courageous, and powerful as Naz.
This watch held a special significance for Lixia.
On the rainy night of the Sect Destruction War, Lixia, while on her deathbed, gave her final words – not to lose the watch.
This was a symbol of inheritance…
“I didn’t expect to find it here.”
Casio furrowed his brows tightly, giving him another reason to intercept the goods. Originally, he was somewhat tempted by the Sand Dust Organization, transporting so many antiques to Baichuan City. He might be able to absorb some Obsession Energy from within. But now, among this batch of antiques was the pocket watch of Naz. It was something he absolutely had to get.
“July 5th, tomorrow night, Beika Street…”
Casio muttered quietly, hoping the disappearance of the Black Flame Gang wouldn’t affect the Sand Dust Organization’s operations tomorrow. Otherwise, he would have to create a bloodbath amongst the Black Flame Gang to find what he was looking for.
“I hope you guys don’t bring death upon yourselves.”
Casio shoved the notebook into his pocket and picked up the large red box next to him. Taking advantage of the thick night, he headed towards the city.
Staggered white-grey buildings with grid lines perfectly framed against the endless dark sky. A handful of scattered stars twinkled and the half-hidden crescent moon was obscured by the clouds. Only a tinge of white frost was sprinkled on the ground.
Black streetlights were neatly lined on both sides of the road, with only a few drunken revelers swaying around. One or two stray cats were scavenging for food near the trash can, while torn newspapers were swept away by the wind.
Casio took a deep breath of the cool night air, heading toward number 25, Banner Street, where he lived in Jessica’s apartment.
“Hm!?”
Casio whirled around as he sensed someone running in the right alley – his perception extremely acute since he just had a breakthrough.
“Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump…”
The figure appeared – a man wearing a jacket, adorned with alternative heavy metal chains. It seemed like a gangster?
“Coming at me?” Casio felt as if the man’s attention was on him. He glanced down at the heavy hand suitcase in his right hand, inside of which was one hundred and fifty thousand Federation Coins.
“You…” The man just rushed in front of Casio.
“Bang!”
The man was kicked off and skidded along the alley floor, rolling a few times before coming to a stop.
“Damn, even close to Leiter Street there’s a thug daring to rob. The security of Baichuan city is getting worse.” Casio spat, picking up the heavy suitcase and quickly walked away.
He didn’t want to kill here, it’s too close to the urban area. Besides, he’s been too bloodthirsty lately, killing too many people. He needed to cool down.
Under the dim moonlight, in a quiet and dark alley.
A man curled on the ground, coughing. After lying down for a while, he staggered to his feet, leaning against the wall for support.
“Damn, why didn’t he let me finish speaking!”
The man was not handsome, even a bit sleazy. He sports lots of hair, and his sideburns curled around his ears. A shiny metal chain was hanging around his neck.
He reached out to wipe the saliva on his mouth that had been kicked out.
“Did he think I was some street thug?” The man glanced at his outfit, feeling almost certain about the misperception. He never thought there would be a day when he’d be mistaken for a thug because of his dressing!
This was indeed a great insult to Ugo, the rottweiler!
He walked a few steps forward to the intersection, only to find that the main road was already deserted: “Damn!”, he had to turn back the way he came from.
In a house within the residential area of Leiter Street…
“Ugo… you got kicked flying just like that?!”
A beautiful woman clad in a tight black dress looked at him. She was not just teasing, but also clearly surprised.
Ugo was no ordinary man, and certainly not a common thug.
He was an elite member of their Shadowless Organization, a one in a hundred combatant among the parasitized. As a rottweiler, Ugo had overcome the Shadow Demon thrice, his physique was more than double that of an ordinary person. He was adept in various types of boxing and combat techniques, making him a backbone of their combat unit.
And just like that, he got kicked by someone? It might have been due to his negligence, yet the opponent was most certainly a combat expert.
If there are such experts they would definitely want to integrate them into the organization, and not let them be ruthlessly killed by the lackeys of the Shadow Demon.
“Don’t bring up the bloody obvious.” Ugo looked annoyed, “Hmm… he really does pack a punch.”
“Although it was a sudden sneak attack, he’s quite likely a skilled fighter. He probably isn’t as good as I am in direct combat, but he might have about 70% to 80% of my strength,” Ugo explained.
They came from an organization known as the Shadowless. In this age of rapid technological advancement, where everything changes daily, the economy thrives and metropolises rise. But, under the surface of every sparkling, beautiful area, there’s always a filthy, dark underbelly.
The monsters of the underworld greedily eye the flourishing city from the gaps below, humans, frail humans are their prey.
And the Shadowless Organization is the dark life-form birthed between these monsters and humans. All the members of the Shadowless Organization are individuals who’ve been parasitized by the Shadow Demon. They barely survive successive demon manifestations, seeking ways to avoid assimilation.
And it is this desire to survive that brought them together.
All members of the Shadowless Organization are hosts to the Shadow Demon. Not only do they have to face the threat of the demon but also fend off its minions smelling their scent. Therefore, they have formed an organization to help each other, resist the Shadow Demon, find methods, and also align with new partners.
The reason they came to Baichuan City this time was to follow the gathering of the Shadow Demon’s minions. The Shadowless Organization has special detection tools that can find similar comrades in the crowd.
Unfortunately, Ugo found Casio and was just about to explain the situation when he was kicked by Casio, mistaking him for a gangster trying to rob him.

In the room, Ugo sighed slowly, “I won’t hold a grudge against him for that kick, I will go find him again in a few days. I hope his degree of assimilation doesn’t exceed 70%.”
Indeed, assimilation, a word Casio had never heard before.
In Ugo’s understanding, the rules of the Shadow Demon and Casio’s understandings were poles apart. Firstly, the basic rule of the demon’s manifestation hadn’t changed; it still copied a person who was exactly the same as yourself.
The specifics, however, are completely different.
As per Ugo’s understanding, losing to the Shadow Demon did not result in straight-up replacement, but partial assimilation. When he first lost to the Shadow Demon, he was probably assimilated about 5%. Each subsequent loss would increase the assimilation rate. The Shadow Demon would need approximately nine victories to fully assimilate and replace the host.
In other words, you have nine chances to fail.
Casio: ???
1×9 equals 9.
So, I have to face perma-death and become a god!
A difference between having nine lives and one life seemed to be quite… significant.
