I Got Reincarnated as a Zombie Girl-Chapter 81 – Starting A new in Another World
Chapter 81: Chapter 81 – Starting A new in Another World
My steps were slow but steady as I left the city gates. The sun had risen high, casting long shadows of the new guards standing on either side of the entrance. I glanced at them briefly strangers, new faces that replaced the guards I had killed yesterday.
They said nothing to me. Not even a wary glance or sign of tension. As if the deaths of the previous guards were nothing unusual. Just another part of life’s rhythm in this world, where sudden attacks, wild monsters, or intruders from other dimensions were no longer shocking enough to cause alarm.
I took a deep breath, then walked out of the city without looking back. The air was slightly warmer than yesterday. The wind carried the scent of wild grass and damp leaves from the forest not far to the west. That forest was my main destination today the place where the medicinal herbs for the Rank F quest could be found.
While walking, I opened a telepathic channel to Tyrant, the commander of my zombie army still expanding in my original world. Tyrant, don’t worry about me. Just focus on the territory. Don’t cause excessive chaos. How are things going over there?
It took a few seconds before Tyrant’s deep, heavy voice answered in my mind."The territory continues to grow, My Queen. However, there is something important to report."
I paused for a moment on the gravel path, listening more closely.
"Four of the zombie scouts you had secretly placed in the human base the one guarded by the human named Sofia have detected suspicious activity. Several individuals appear to be inciting rebellion. They look like common civilians, wearing ragged and dirty clothes... but they are actually military personnel. Disguised. Slowly infiltrating."
My eyes narrowed, and I clenched my fist unconsciously. "And Sofia hasn’t noticed yet?"
"Not yet, My Queen. But the shadow scouts are ready to act on your command."
I let out a long sigh."They can’t speak, but they can write, correct?"
"Yes."
I quickly formed a plan. Knowing Sofia’s character, she would investigate thoroughly if she received a convincing written report. So I gave the order,"Have one of them write a report about this and place it somewhere Sofia will find it but make sure it’s secure. We can’t let them be discovered."
"Understood."
Before I could close the connection, Tyrant added something surprising."The four zombies you stationed there... have evolved into Rank 3 Zombies. Type: Shadows. They possess the ability to merge with darkness, move without sound, and strike from within the shadows."
"Shadows..." I murmured. "Are they similar to Hunters?" frёewebnoѵēl.com
"They’re faster, stealthier, and smarter. You could say... elite versions of Hunters."
I nodded slowly, a small smile forming. "Good. Keep them safe. They may become our secret weapons."
After cutting off the communication, I continued my journey to the forest. It took about twenty minutes of walking before I fully entered the woodland where the medicinal herbs were said to grow. The trees here were tall and thick, sunlight barely piercing through the dense leaves. The atmosphere was quiet, filled only with the sounds of birds and the occasional rustling wind.
I quickly identified several types of plants listed in the quest. One of them was Herba Ranos, a broad-leaved herb with bright green veins and a distinct minty scent. It was commonly used as a base ingredient for energy-restoring potions.
Carefully, I crouched down and began harvesting the Herba Ranos with my bare hands. But I didn’t pull out the entire plant just a few older leaves. I remembered how the elves harvested herbs: never damage the roots, and always leave the younger leaves to regrow.
"If everything is taken without thought, this place will wither fast..." I muttered to myself.
I harvested slowly, moving from bush to bush, collecting various medicinal herbs: Kael Leaves, Lutea Flowers, and Miros Roots. Each had its own use, and their distinct scents made me feel almost one with nature. There was something peaceful about this activity so different from the destruction and stench of blood that usually surrounded me.
Still, that peace didn’t completely erase my tension. My instincts remained alert. I heard the occasional crack of twigs, the soft steps of small animals, or the rustling of leaves. But nothing ever approached me directly.
An hour passed, maybe more. The small pouch I brought was nearly full of herbs. I decided to return, but before leaving the forest entirely, I stood still and closed my eyes.
The forest sounds filled my ears. The wind, the leaves, the birds, and... something different. A faint presence... like a creature observing me. But not hostile. More like it was simply watching.
It was already late afternoon by the time the city’s watchtower appeared in the distance. My steps remained steady even as my mind buzzed with plans. This world was new to me, yet in many ways... it felt familiar. Intrigue, infiltration, power struggles I had lived through it all before. But now, I was no longer part of someone else’s game.
And this world... sooner or later, would know who I truly am.
Meanwhile, at the main southwestern base...
Sofia stood on the balcony of the watchtower, gazing at the evening sky as it turned orange. The evening breeze gently swept through her loose silver hair. In her hand was a piece of old paper she had found tucked behind a medical supply shelf. The writing on it was brief but clear—a report detailing suspicious activity from several "civilians" who had recently been seen too often around the logistics and communications area.
She reread the lines, her brow furrowed. The writing style was odd, stiff, as if written by someone unaccustomed to writing... or not human at all. But the content of the report was too specific to ignore.
Sofia bit her lower lip, then turned toward the hallway behind her. The hurried footsteps of Viktor echoed clearly.
"Another problem?" Viktor asked, raising an eyebrow.
Sofia handed him the paper. "This... isn’t from our team. But I trust what it says."
Viktor skimmed through it quickly, then clicked his tongue. "If it’s true, it means we’re dealing with an infiltration. They’re disguising themselves as civilians."
Sofia looked far to the west, toward the forest where she had briefly sensed Sylvia’s presence earlier that day. There was worry in her eyes... but also a hint of relief.
"If this was your doing... thank you, Sylvia."
