Erend walked quietly through the stone corridors of the Elven palace, his boots echoing faintly with each step. The weight of another mission already pressing on him made his shoulders feel heavier than any armor could.

He returned to his chamber where Eccar was waiting by the window, arms crossed and eyes half-closed in thought.

Saeldir had told them he'd be waiting in his own chamber. But first, Erend needed to share what he'd just learned.

"The place we're headed to," Erend began as he closed the door behind him, "is located on the eastern continent. King Fairon said that."

Eccar blinked. "Continent?" he repeated with disbelief. "That means it's actually really far away."

Erend let out a dry chuckle and slumped against the wall. "Yeah. I guess. Oh, wait. We still have Adrius, right? Isn't he a human Archmage?"

Recognition sparked in Eccar's eyes. "Right. Let's call him and ask if he can teleport us there."

"Is he from the Qomore Kingdom, though?" Erend asked, frowning.

"Doesn't matter," Eccar replied with a shrug. "He's in a human kingdom. His location has to be a lot closer than ours right now, right?"

Erend considered it and gave a reluctant nod. "Yeah… good point."

With that decided, he pushed himself off the wall. "Come on. Let's go meet Saeldir. He said he'd be in his chamber."

They made their way down the corridor once more. This time, their steps were faster and filled with purpose. When they reached Saeldir's chamber, the door was already slightly ajar. A faint Magic hum pulsed from inside.

Pushing the door open fully, they saw Saeldir already at work. The room was dim, lit only by pale blue light coming from the glowing orbs embedded in the walls.

Spread across a large wooden table in the center of the room was a parchment, unrolled to reveal a complex diagram—runes intertwined with lines, circles, and layered coordinates.

Saeldir didn't even glance up when they entered.

"I assumed you'd come here first before doing anything reckless," he said, a note of dry amusement in his voice. He tapped the parchment with two fingers. "I've already recorded the last known location of Adrius when I met him there to help fighting the harbinger of doom that time. Took a bit of digging after all that happened, but there it is."

Erend stepped forward, peering over the diagram. In the center of the parchment was a slowly rotating glyph—hovering above it was a tiny flickering light.

"That's him?" Eccar asked.

Saeldir nodded. "That's where Adrius was last seen casting a spell. It's in the human world, though not exactly Qomore. I think its another human kingdom. But close enough for him to be useful."

"Can we contact him?" Erend asked.

"I'm working on opening a communication channel now," Saeldir said, lifting a small crystal orb from a silver holder and setting it in the center of the parchment. "Give me a few minutes. With any luck, he won't be too annoyed at being interrupted."

Eccar raised an eyebrow. "Knowing Adrius, he'll be glad to help."

They waited in silence for a few seconds as the orb glowed to life, crackling softly with static Magic. A faint, distorted voice began to push through the air, slowly becoming clearer…

"—what now? I was this close to finishing my—wait… is that Erend?"

Erend leaned in. "Yep. Sorry to bug you, Adrius. We need a ride to the eastern continent."

Adrius groaned through the orb. "You know, usually, I will charge you for Magical courier services. But… fine. Let me just—ugh, fine. Give me ten minutes. I'll open a gate."

The orb dimmed slightly, the call ending, and Erend looked at Eccar with a grin.

"He's in."

Eccar grinned back. "Told you."

Saeldir gave them both a sidelong look. "Just don't bring back anything worse than Laston, alright?"

Erend raised a hand in mock salute. "No promises."

Saeldir scoffed but said nothing more as he turned back to his diagrams. He also need to help on stabilizing the gate Adrius would soon open.

They waited in a quiet hum of tension. The parchment on the table pulsed lightly, reacting to the energies that built in the room as the teleportation gate was being stabilized across vast distances.

As minutes passed, Saeldir finally looked up from his work and spoke, his voice calm but tinged with concern.

"Erend… you sure you don't want to rest first? Or at least visit your family before throwing yourself into another mission?" he asked, watching the Dragonborn with quiet scrutiny.

Erend shook his head, arms crossed over his chest.

"I'm not really that tired," he said. "I didn't do much in that last fight, not compared to you or the others. I was mostly just acting at the end, taking down what was already falling apart. Laston was already cornered."

Saeldir gave him a pointed look and grimaced slightly. "So you're saying one of Laston's main subordinates wasn't strong," he muttered under his breath. "As expected of a Dragonborn. You people are terrifying."

Erend chuckled but didn't push back. There wasn't much point arguing when he had held back during the battle.

Then he added, "Besides, I'm not going right away. Eccar will go first."

Eccar just nodded, already mentally preparing for the journey ahead.

Saeldir nodded thoughtfully.

"That's better," he said. "Meanwhile, we'll focus on examining the battlefield—especially the remnants of power Laston left behind. After his death we need to understand what he had done. Or it'll happen again in worse ways."

Erend nodded but didn't speak.

He didn't mention that the most important piece of knowledge Laston carried was not on the battlefield. It was something he had already taken. Something he hadn't told anyone about yet.

A faint shimmer cut through the air, like ripples across the surface of water. Light warped and twisted in front of them as the center of the room pulsed with pressure. Then a rift opened.

It hovered like a tear in space, its edges flickering with thin arcs of lightning. Through it, vague outlines of distant landscapes were visible: sharp stone towers and hills bathed in golden light.

Erend and Eccar instinctively stepped closer, squinting into the portal.

"That should take you to Adrius," Saeldir said. "He's waiting on the other side."

Eccar stepped forward. "Wish me luck."

"Just don't cause a war while I'm not there," Erend smirked.

Eccar laughed and stepped into the portal.

The rift flared then sealed itself with a low hum, the room suddenly still again.
