Chapter 566 - 566 Interlude: A Promised Date, Leaving Invincible, Record of Ragnarok, The Third Match, and The Most Unexpected Champion of All.
(Walker Manor)
As tempting as it sounded to spend the morning cuddling with Diana, Allen needed to resolve some issues before departing this world. Of course, it wouldn't be forever or even for that long.
Allen woke Diana up. She didn't want to, but Allen convinced her after playing with her a bit. Afterward, he got up, went through his morning hygiene routine, and ate breakfast. Raven and Kara joined them, although both girls wore frowns; perhaps because Diana had monopolized Allen the night before.
Allen wouldn't be a certified and veteran womanizer if he didn't notice things like this. But even though there were feelings between them, Allen hadn't reached that stage with either of them yet. It wasn't that he didn't want to; Raven had the issue of her demonic father, which, while now heavily suppressed, was still present. He wanted to solve that problem before "that". As for Kara, Allen was waiting for her to stop seeing herself as a stranger on Earth, and to slowly make this place her home. Of course, not this specific Earth in the Invincible universe, but the concept applied. This was mostly out of self-satisfaction, as both girls were more than willing to give themselves up on a silver platter. In fact, the two girls planned to take advantage of the fact that Allen was going to go their world to take their relationship to the next level.
...
Before leaving, Allen must keep his promise and take the three women on a date/walk to get to know this world. So, Allen went out with Diana, Kate, and Raven...
Diana wore a blouse and a skirt perhaps a bit formal. People often forget that, aside from being a warrior/superheroine in her world, she was also a historian and museum administrator, which meant she usually dressed formally. However, since Diana was extremely well-proportioned, she looked sexy even in such attire. She knew it, and she knew Allen had a thing for the sexy secretary stereotype. So, she took advantage of the opportunity, showing some cleavage and accentuating her curves with a fitted skirt. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Allen nodded and did not refuse at the invitation, he moved in to kiss her, but the burning gaze of the other girls did not leave him much time to enjoy his Diana.
Kara wore jeans and a T-shirt, but she had clearly put effort into her hair, which looked silky and shiny, adorned with a butterfly clip that Allen had given her. She also wore a touch of makeup, which highlighted her natural beauty.
Allen reached out his hand to fix the barrette in the beautiful blonde's hair. Kara blushed at this action; he wanted to kiss her, seeing her being so cute, but refrained; if they kept this up, they would never go out.
Lastly, Raven wore a black blouse with a skull design on the chest, a black skirt with a chain, black tights, and boots—a modern Gothic style. She was a beautiful goth girl with a curvy figure. Allen knew he was lucky—many variants of Raven were just gloomy girls, but this one was a goth beauty with a big ass.
Allen cleared his throat—if he kept staring at his DC waifus, this date would turn into a daytime sleepover, where the least would be the pajamas.
Diana wanted to visit a museum; she was curious to see how different history was from the one she already knew. Raven wanted to check out a few places she was personally interested in for the same reason. Kara, however, was simpler; just spending time on a date with Allen was enough for her.
Allen didn't hide his identity, so the appearance of new superheroines on the streets with Allen Walker caused a stir around the world. But none of them cared; they walked through the city like it was any ordinary date... well, except for the fact that the bastard was dating three women at once.
What did the people of Invincible's world think of Allen?
It was hard for them to love him considering his work as a Regulator, and openly having a harem wasn't exactly well regarded either. Still, the adaptability of people was terrifying—because, in the end, that was the least surprising thing to them. Allen didn't see the need to hide from being stared at—no one would dare bother him anyway. The only real effect was that some employees, cashiers, and workers at the places they visited got nervous when serving them.
...
The date ended, and when they returned home, Eve and Amanda were waiting. Allen gave them space to get to know each other. Kara exchanged numbers with Amanda so they could play video games together, and Diana invited Eve to visit her world—even offering her and Anissa a spot in the League. That upset Raven and Kara, since she hadn't extended the offer to them.
"Raven, you're already part of the Teen Titans. And Kara... would you really like your cousin watching you all day?"
Both girls took a step back. After a quiet dinner, Allen proceeded to give the girls official authorization to travel between worlds. Eve and Amanda already knew about this, and Kate smiled calmly—her heart had already accepted this next step.
Anissa stood up and leaped onto Allen to hug him. She trembled in silence as Allen comforted her. For some reason, Anissa hadn't expected Allen to accept her at this level. Maybe it was because of her Viltrumite conditioning... maybe the age gap (now smaller)... maybe because she had attacked Eve and Amanda when she first arrived... or maybe because she didn't see herself as a cute girl, but rather as a dangerous warrior. Overall, Anissa had always felt like she was a step below the other girls.
Allen gently pulled her back and stroked her cheek. "Did you forget what I told you back then?"
"I..."
Back when Space Racer nearly killed her, Allen had told her she had become an irreplaceable woman in his life.
Anissa smiled as she held Allen's hand against her cheek. "How could I forget? I remember it every night..."
Allen smiled back, while several envious glares from other girls surrounded them. In the end, he had to follow through and remind each one of them just how much they meant to him.
...
The next day, Allen was ready to leave and opened a portal. This time, something felt different as he crossed—it wasn't really a goodbye, just a short pause. Still, several screens lit up across this world in front of certain people, displaying an invitation to become spectators of Allen's journey.
Legend says that Cecil cursed Allen out loud when he realized he had been tricked by that disgusting troll.
...
Record of Ragnarok...
This world had been condemned by the gods. In their selfish and unilateral judgment, they decided that humanity no longer deserved to exist. However, thanks to the intervention of Brunhilde, the eldest of the Valkyries, humanity was given one last chance.
Ragnarok: an epic battle of thirteen humans versus thirteen gods. A fight that would decide the end of mankind or the beginning of a new era. While the gods saw it as mere entertainment, for humanity it was despair; this was their final chance. They summoned their chosen warriors to the battlefield.
The first match is Lü Bu, the strongest warrior in Chinese history, versus Thor, the god of thunder from Asgard. A crushing defeat for humanity.
As the crowd reeled from the overwhelming power of the gods, a shift occurred—a wave of existence that didn't sit well with the current state of things.
Deep within the underworld, in the depths of decay and despair, a man lay imprisoned. His name was Allen. He had entered this world and, as a result, had become part of it. He had a history here; a life, a place.
There would be no intervention from the world's will, for Allen was already a part of it. He was a former hero—Siegfried, better known as Sigurd, Brunhilde's lover, the dragon-slayer with invulnerable skin.
In this world, Allen awoke as Sigurd, but unlike him, no power could stop him. He broke free, left behind a fake copy to remain in his cell, and entered the arena of Ragnarok. There, he reclaimed his wife and gave the gods a taste of humility by beating Zeus in an unofficial match.
Displeased that humanity was so heavily disadvantaged in this version of Ragnarok. He altered the matchups and made it clear: the losing side would just face extinction; humanity wasn't the only one at stake anymore.
Ragnarok resumed. This time, Allen brought forth his master to fight Poseidon. Gojo, the strongest sorcerer of the modern era, won against all odds.
...
Brunhilde studied the gods listed for upcoming battles. Due to Allen's interference, the next opponent was supposed to be Shiva. To add more unpredictability to Ragnarok, the list of chosen warriors was nullified—it could now change at any time. Of course, the gods, being the embodiment of pride, would hardly agree to change their picks. But humanity had been allowed to choose new champions.
"Raiden would be the best choice..."
"The sumo wrestler?" someone asked.
"That voice!" Brunhilde exclaimed.
Allen wrapped his arms around Brunhilde's waist. She was surprised, but quickly blushed and smiled as she leaned into him.
"Welcome back..."
"I'm home..."
Brunhilde understood the situation well. She knew that only a second had passed in her world, yet Allen may have lived through years. But as a demigoddess, she didn't perceive the passage of time like a mortal woman would. So, she didn't even care too much.
Brunhilde had been worried moments ago, but now she felt at peace and safe in her lover's arms. "Mm~"
Allen glanced at Raiden Tameemon's profile—humanity's fighter against Shiva. This was supposed to be the fifth match, but it looked like it had changed order.
Artoria – The first match ended in defeat for humanity. But with Satoru Gojo's victory, it's now a tie.
Nokotan – Too bad the beating you gave Zeus wasn't official... and Adam's match got delayed.
Gwen – It's weird being back in Ragnarok like no time passed at all.
[I.M] "Don't worry, Gwen... I did this because of the circumstances. Ragnarok moves forward relentlessly, so it had to be done."
MJ – Don't you dare vanish for a thousand years just because you can, or I'll be mad!
[I.M] "I'd never do that, haha."
Allen smiled as Brunhilde turned to hug him from the front. As for the upcoming battle, Allen had decided to change it. After all, it had originally been another planned loss for humanity.
*Cough*
"Excuse me..."
Allen turned to see Göll and Randgriz peeking through the doorway. Both were Brunhilde's sisters, and Allen smiled at them.
Randgriz entered nervously. She was supposed to have died alongside Lü Bu, but Allen had revived her. Another reason to alter the fights—though his relationship with most of the Valkyries was based on friendship and camaraderie, he didn't want Brunhilde's younger sisters to die in Ragnarok.
"Allen-nii..." Göll approached him with a worried look.
Allen released Brunhilde to gently pat the youngest Valkyrie's head.
"Don't worry. I'll take care of this Ragnarok..."
Allen wasn't kind enough to show mercy to the gods. He knew the original outcomes of these fights, and if he could prevent more defeats, he would—even if it seemed unfair to the gods. With that in mind, he whispered something to Brunhilde that left her eyes wide with disbelief.
"Are you sure? That sounds insane..."
"Don't worry. He may not be a hero, a genius, or a monster, but he has something even more incredible. I'll prepare him before the fight..."
Brunhilde smiled and caressed her beloved's face. "Sorry, I was just surprised by who you chose to summon. I trust your judgment... and I trust you with my life."
Randgriz and Göll exchanged looks. Neither knew what kind of warrior would be summoned for the third round of Ragnarok... but it sounded like someone extraordinary.
...
Ragnarok is, in simple terms, a fight. This world knows no other arc—just one battle after another. There's no time for sorrow, as the fate of humanity—and now the gods—hangs by a thread.
In the arena, things had settled.
Yuji Itadori leaned on the railing, still amazed by everything around him. "Whoa... this place is huge. I still don't get how all of humanity can watch at the same time."
"You're gonna fall," said his grumpy friend, Fushiguro Megumi.
"Hehe. I wonder what surprise Allen-kun has prepared next..." Satoru Gojo smiled playfully while munching on popcorn. Since he was a participant in Ragnarok, people from his world with a close connection to him were allowed to watch.
This made it possible for his students, his best friend Geto, and Nanami to be there. Though they could've returned to their own world, curiosity kept them around to see how it would all end.
Gojo glanced sideways as Brunhilde and Göll appeared, signaling the start of the next round. Yet he didn't see Allen anywhere. That made him grin with anticipation.
"This just keeps getting better~"
Nobara Kugisaki discreetly looked for Allen too. She wasn't the kind of girl to fall for a handsome guy just because he saved her once. But she couldn't help giving Brunhilde a slightly disdainful look, as if to say, A pretty face isn't everything.
...
Heimdall, the all-seeing Norse god and announcer of the battles received two scrolls with the names of the chosen fighters.
He wasn't surprised to see Shiva—the Hindu god of destruction. It was well known that he was originally meant to fight Adam, but Zeus had taken his place. In the end, Zeus's arrogance was met with even greater arrogance—Allen had replaced Adam altogether.
Heimdall grinned and opened the second scroll. Then his eyes widened. His jaw dropped.
"What the hell?!"
He couldn't help cursing at what he was reading. Was this real? Heimdall blinked twice, unsure if his eyes were playing tricks on him.
...
...
...
Heimdall floated in the center of the Ragnarok arena.
"I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR IT—AND NOW IT'S HERE!"
"WARRIORS AND LEGENDS, GODS AND MORTALS—THE GREATEST CLASH IN A DEATH MATCH FOR SURVIVAL!"
"WILL HUMANITY PERISH?! WILL THE GODS FACE THEIR TWILIGHT?!"
"A HUMAN WHO STANDS ABOVE HUMANS PUTS HIS FULL POTENTIAL TO THE TEST AGAINST A GOD! PURE MADNESS!"
"THEY CARRY HISTORY ON THEIR SHOULDERS—YEARS OR EVEN MILLENNIA! BUT NONE OF THAT MATTERS... FOR THEY WILL CLASH AND BURN IN AN INSTANT!"
Heimdall's voice faded as we descended into a dark hallway.
Inside the Champions' Passage, Allen walked wearing dark sunglasses, flanked by two figures.
"Don't worry, you're ready," Allen encouraged his chosen fighter.
"You'll do great," said the other mysterious figure beside him.
"..." The man behind Allen simply nodded as he stretched.
Allen smiled. "I bet no one's going to guess who the next champion is..."
Light shone ahead as the three stepped forward—Ragnarok was about to shake the world once more.
