I transmigrated and got a husband and a son!-Chapter 1157: They’re your best bet
Chapter 1157: They’re your best bet
Hera kicked the door open with the thought of engaging in a fight. However, the second she saw what was inside, she squinted her eyes.
"You guys are alright," she blurted out, brows raising in equal surprise and relief. "Wow."
"Wow?" Wolf frowned. "That, wow, sounds like you were expecting us dead."
"Nope." Hera cleared her throat, moving her eyes to the people in the lobby. She studied the two men standing with their hands up, and then at the young man, who was slowly standing up from the wing chair.
"Who... is the little runt?" Hera studied the young man from head to toe before casting Wolf a look. "He looks expensive."
"He’s the owner of the chopper you shot just now." Ram smiled from ear to ear until his eyes merely looked like slits. "And he claims to be your cousin, and that he came to extend his help."
"Help?" Hera let out a chuckle, marching inside. As she did so, she cocked her rifle while keeping her eyes on the young man.
Ulysses gulped nervously, holding his breath as Hera approached. He kept his fist fixed on his side, telling himself not to back down. When Hera stepped into his vicinity, she suddenly raised her foot and kicked him in the chest. Surprised, Ulysses fell back on the wing chair abruptly.
Before he could even process the situation, he felt the cold metal pressing on his forehead.
"Help?" Hera repeated, her foot on his chest while holding a rifle on his forehead. "And what makes you think a little runt like you can help me?"
Ulysses took another deep breath, not showing the fear that was creeping into his heart. "I want to talk to you in private."
"This is private," she said, unfazed. "Consider yourself dead in sixty seconds if you don’t give me enough reason to keep you alive."
"I am Ulysses Ebonhart. Your mother is my mother’s cousin," Ulysses panicked, but that information didn’t move her at all. It didn’t even seem to surprise her. He knew he should be talking right now because Ulysses felt like she wasn’t joking. He intuitively glanced in Ram’s direction, a little annoyed at the old man smiling.
Ulysses was hoping for a private audience with Hera because what he wanted to discuss was only for her ears. It was the reason he refused to tell Ram, but now that Hera wanted him to talk right now, it felt humiliating, especially since Ram was smiling.
"Ten seconds," Hera muttered, her finger caressing the trigger as if she was itching to pull it. "Five..."
Three...
Two...
"I..." Ulysses trailed off as he looked her in the eye, forgetting about the seconds he had left to live. "... you are named in the late master of the Oxley family in his will."
Hera arched a brow as she studied the young man’s determined eyes. He seemed scared to die, but at the same time, his determination was just as strong. Meanwhile, those around Hera furrowed their brows as they looked at the young man with intrigue.
"Is that enough to get your attention?" asked Ulysses with a jagged breath. "It doesn’t look like much, but we can help."
"We?"
"The Ebonhart Family — I assumed you already heard of the Five Secret Families."
"And what makes you think I want anyone’s help, especially from the Five Secret Family?" Hera cocked her head to the side.
"Because you need information about them. If you’re going to fight Florence, you need to know who you’re dealing with."
Hera opened her mouth, only to close them once more. She maintained her position as she spoke after a moment.
"Ram, why did you let this little guy inside my house?" she asked Ram without looking back at him.
Ram maintained a smile. "He amused me."
’Amused him?’ Ulysses frowned as he glanced in Ram’s direction, but when he shifted his eyes back to Hera, he realized she was listening to him.
"You didn’t think he was the one who attacked you?" Hera asked again, her question still directed at Ram.
"Wolf and I had some thoughts, but we decided it’s much better to hear him out. After all, he may be a runt, but he did manage to get in here without raising alarm bells. We assumed he might have information that could be helpful to us."
Wolf nodded in agreement and backed up. "And even if he lies or if his purpose was to divert our attention, we can always kill him the first time he tries."
"Since the gentlemen had spoken, I’ll spare you... for now." Hera withdrew her rifle from the young man’s head, making the latter heave a sigh of relief. "However, the moment I sensed your bullshit, I’m not sparing you another sixty seconds to explain yourself. I’ll kill you in a second, and I won’t lose a wink of sleep about it."
Ulysses nodded in understanding, watching Hera back away. But before she could find herself a seat, her brows rose as she habitually pressed her earpiece. She didn’t say anything for a while, but she did gaze down at him while she listened to whoever was speaking in her earpiece.
The corner of Hera’s lips curled up into a smirk. "Tell Tiger to drag him back on here to confirm," was all everyone heard as she marched on the couch, sitting leisurely.
"It seemed it’s your lucky day," she remarked to Ulysses. "My brother caught an assassin on his way back and from what I heard, it seemed the target wasn’t me this time. It seemed someone didn’t want you to come to me."
Deep lines appeared between Ulysses’s brows, confused. His bodyguards bore the same perplexed and shocked reaction, which made it obvious they didn’t expect that.
"Ram, am I seeing things correctly?" Hera mused while Ram nodded.
"They were clueless," he said. "I guess even if you didn’t shoot their chopper, it was meant to explode, anyway."
"I supposed it’s safe to say even if they came here with ulterior motives, they got no reason to hold back information." Wolf nodded in satisfaction. "They’re dead either way — does that mean he’s a liability now?"
"Can’t say now." Hera shrugged, eyes on the little man. "It’s up to him whether I’d want to keep him as an informant or use him as an example." freewēbnoveℓ.com
She wiggled her brows, jerking her chin at Ulysses. "Start talking now. Don’t worry about them. I tend to zone out or take a nap. I might or might not listen to you, so these people are your best bet. If they listened, then whatever you got to say is probably worth listening to."
Ulysses glanced at the people around, clearing his throat as he was forced to discuss matters with her, with all these people listening. Though reluctant, he didn’t want to demand more. He wasn’t in the position to demand more and that was clear to him the first few seconds he interacted with her.
