I transmigrated and got a husband and a son!-Chapter 1222: Next to you
Chapter 1222: Next to you
Hera and Dominic found themselves lying on their side, facing each other. They hadn’t said a word since they came to her ward. But their eyes were gleamed with content, their smile cemented on their faces. Their hands entwined in between them.
They imagined themselves doing all sorts of things once everything was over. However, here they were, lying and just staring at each other without saying a word.
"Pfft —" Hera couldn’t help but laugh, making his eyes squint as if he understood what made her laugh. She bit her lips, trying to stop herself from grinning.
"I thought you were going to strip me naked when you locked the door," she giggled.
"I also thought too," he admitted with a soothing chuckle. "But we’re not in a hurry anymore, are we?"
"No, we’re not."
"I want to look at you more."
"What do you see on my face?"
"Beauty."
The corners of her eyes creased, running her tongue across her inner cheek. "How pretty?"
Dominic pondered. "Immeasurable."
"I like it. Tell me more."
"Your eyes are very deep, but there’s like fire in them." Dominic stretched his hand, tracing her facial features with his fingertips. "Your brows are thicker than I thought. Your nose is very pretty. I didn’t know you have a soft cheek — they looked quite lean."
Her eyes softened with affection. His deep baritone sounded like a lullaby, coaxing her to a peaceful sleep.
"Ah. You have thick lashes. No wonder your eyes somewhat looked dark and emphasized," he realized in amusement. His eyes scanned every pore on her face as if etching every detail. "Hera, you have a very small face."
His lips curled up in amusement as he spread his hand to her side. His hands were much bigger than her face. It was amusing for him.
Fluttering his eyelashes back to her, his gaze relaxed.
"When I was doing some reading about Hera Cruel, they painted you like a horrendous monster," he remarked softly. "And whenever I see you fight, how you handle each conversation with people no one would talk down to, and simply your presence alone... no one would have known you had such delicate features."
It wasn’t just the name, but how she carried herself that Hera always felt like a giant.
Her presence was too strong, it was almost suffocating. People would be too busy wondering what would be her next move. They always waited with baited breaths. But upon closer look, she truly has a delicate beauty.
A beauty one would fall the longer they stare. A face that could leave anyone in a daze.
"I am torn between being glad no one has seen what I am seeing yet or feeling frustrated that no one was brave enough to take a closer look." A slight bitterness laced his voice, looking at her as if the world wronged her. "You are not a monster."
Hera slowly clasped his hand, resting it on her cheek. "I don’t mind," she said. "Just one person is enough."
Even if the entire world would scowl at her, as long as he would look at her this way was more than good enough for her.
To be looked at like the way he would, as if she was the most beautiful, the most precious person in the world, gave her a sense of fulfillment. Why would she ask for more when this was everything she ever wanted?
With him, Hera was just Hera.
She was not Hera Cruel, not the brain behind the Reapers, not a ruthless person to be wary of.
Those eyes always made her feel she was like any woman who deserved to be loved sincerely and completely, and she was just a person who could also give love just as freely.
Thinking about it, tears already rolled across her nose bridge.
"Why?" he asked, wiping her tears with his thumb. "Don’t be sad."
"I’m not." She smiled even though she couldn’t stop her tears from flowing. "I am happy, and I never thought being so happy could also make you cry."
Her smile stretched, squeezing his hand and pressing it on her cheek. "I’m so happy, Dom. I’m so happy I can’t stop crying."
Dominic smiled helplessly, feeling his eyes moisten.
There was no heaviness in his heart. If anything, he felt light and at ease. But also, his eyes stung.
Was this even possible?
To be so happy you ended up crying?
Both of them were new to this concept. However, looking back at everything they went through, they came a long way. From the start when she just woke up in Heaven’s body, the divorce, the fixing of their marriage, the little and big incidents, and even when she returned to her original body.
A lot had happened.
On top of the good memories and simple joy, tears were shed every once in a while, heartaches were felt, longing lingered, and consistent worry often tore their hearts apart. During those times, they were always hopeful for this day.
The day they could finally see the light better. The day they couldn’t just hope, but ascertain they had a bright future. A future they would live so happily they wouldn’t mind rotting next to each other.
"Come here." Dominic carefully pulled her into his embrace, her little body embracing her with warmth. His mouth opened and closed and when his voice came out, his words cracked.
"We made it, Hera."
Hera melted into his embrace, sniffing hard as she clasped his chest. "We did?"
"Yes... we did."
A smile crept up on their faces despite the tears flowing from their eyes.
They did it.
They made it.
"For worse..." His voice was shaky, but it was laced with relief. "... and now, for the better."
Hera closed her eyes, squeezing herself into his arms as if she just wanted to be inside him.
"Thank you," she whispered. "Thank you for giving me a reason."
Dominic smiled, lowering his head until his nose was touching the top of her head. "Thank you for... being you."
Hera just smiled. "This is nice, isn’t it?"
"It is." Dominic closed his eyes and relaxed his body. "I missed you."
"I know."
"Did you?"
"More than words."
His smile stretched. "I love you, Hera."
This time, Hera chuckled. She slowly drew her head back, looking up at him.
"Say it again," she requested the moment their eyes locked with each other.
"I love you."
"No." Her lips curled up even more. "My name. Say it again."
Dominic cupped her face and leaned his face closer. "Hera," he called sincerely. "That’s the owner of my heart."
"Remember her name."
"And remember mine. Zhu." Dominic dawdled. "It’ll be right next to yours."
Their eyes squinted as they softened, gleaming with immeasurable affection and admiration. Slowly, their faces leaned closer. Their hearts pounded loudly, but not at a quick pace. As their hot breaths caressed each other’s upper lips, they closed their eyes and shared a long, passionate, and sincere kiss.
I love you.
I miss you.
Those words were simply an understatement of their love and longing. However, being called by the same name that spooked everyone with such sincerity was worth more than a thousand words.
They were finally home.
