I transmigrated and got a husband and a son!-Chapter 1225: Served the same food
Chapter 1225: Served the same food
"You... hadn’t reached the finish line, did you?"
The wind blew at them gently, relaying his quiet remarks to her ears.
Ivy pursed her lips as her breath turned jagged. She wanted to answer him, but she knew the moment she opened her mouth, tears would also start flowing.
Not long ago, Dominic gave her a phone so she could communicate with Tiger.
Tiger called a few times, but she didn’t answer. All she did was stare at the phone, listening to the rings. When he probably got her message, he stopped trying. Or perhaps he was forced to because he had to go to the battlefield.
Either way, Ivy was very stubborn, and she knew that. She also knew she might regret not answering all those calls. But she didn’t want everything to end in a phone call. She didn’t want to have her last memory with him on a call.
If not hearing her voice was enough motivation for him to emerge from the battle alive, then so be it. Ivy buried herself with work to lessen her anxiety. But now that he was here, she slowly let her emotions take over.
She was scared... very scared... and even now, she was.
"Hah." Tiger’s naturally lazy visage softened in relief before he marched to her.
Finally, he thought.
He could finally take her into his embrace. This time, he wouldn’t let her go. He would keep her confined in his arms forever.
Time felt slower than usual as the distance between them lessened. It felt like even though he hastened his pace, his speed wasn’t still enough. So when she was within his reach, he reached out his hand to pull her.
But the moment he held her arm and pulled her closer, a resounding slap landed on his cheek.
SLAP!
Primo, who was just getting out of the speedboat, flinched. He slowly followed the painful sound, and his eyes landed on Ivy and Tiger. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Tiger’s eyes went wide as his face was tossed to the side. He couldn’t believe what had just happened until the side of his face twitched.
He blinked in disbelief, shifting his wide eyes back to her.
"What was that —"
SLAP!
Tiger, Primo, and even the person who was meant to help Ivy jolted when another slap struck Tiger’s cheek. The sound was so sharp even those who were listening to it winced.
Ivy was already chewing her bottom lips as she clasped her hands until her knuckles turned white. Her palm throbbed painfully, but it wasn’t the reason why tears slightly blurred her vision.
"You’re crazy!" she yelled and slapped his shoulders aggressively. "How can you get in a collapsing building, huh!? Do you have a dead wish or something?! You don’t knock on death’s door, but run as far away as possible from it!"
With the continuous assault, Tiger intuitively curled up defensively. "Aw! Ivy! Hey!" Yet, he didn’t stop her, offering his bulk shoulder to vent out her frustrations.
"Don’t you really think of me when you’re fighting, huh?! Do you know how worried sick I was when I saw you ramped up that hill?!" Her punches grew weaker as she whimpered, but still threw a weak punch on his shoulder.
She sniffed and hiccuped at the same time, her lips quivering as she continued, "I thought I was going to lose you. I was... very scared."
Tiger relaxed his shoulders as he stared at the tears flooding her face. Her slight pain on his cheek and shoulder slowly disappeared. These assaults would never compare to the pain he put her through.
Without a word, he gently pulled her into his arms.
"I’m sorry," he whispered, patting her back gently. "I’m really sorry."
Ivy buried her face in his chest, crying her heart out as if she finally had the freedom to feel the emotions she suppressed. Tiger waited patiently, patting her back, and didn’t even feel impatient for her to calm down.
Getting slapped wasn’t what he expected, considering he saw how Dominic and Hera reunited. Those two immediately locked themselves in the ward. However, being able to comfort Ivy after getting slapped by her didn’t feel less comforting.
This woman courageously stepped down from the company she established to be Dominic’s assistant.
All her life, Ivy kept proving herself to everyone and the world until it became a habit. She became well-respected in the business world because of her hard work. Hence, her announcement of stepping down stunned many people because not many women in the male-dominated business world could reach the heights she was walking on.
She sacrificed everything for him; she left the things that kept her going for him.
She did all of that to make sure he would come back to her.
And that they could be together again.
How could Tiger have the heart to impatiently wait for her to calm down?
Tiger let her cry just as much as she wanted, and he would comfort her just as long as she needed. He was just glad he could do at least this much for now. He wanted to do more for her, but that could wait.
They weren’t in a hurry anymore.
After what felt like forever, Ivy hiccuped. She slowly drew a step back and gazed up at him. Her eyes were already swollen, making him cup her face. His thumb stretched to the corner of her eyes, wiping her tears with it.
"I didn’t... reach the finish line," she hiccuped as a smile crept up to her face. "I didn’t even cross the starting line yet because... "
Ivy paused to manage her emotions. "Because... I want to walk that track together with you."
His eyes softened with affection as he smiled.
"Good," he cooed. "I just realized I’m a little tired from running all my life. I prefer walking now."
Both of them had been constantly on the move all their lives. They never wasted a second, training their body, minds, and hearts for what they always thought was their purpose.
But now, the sound of taking a step back as they walk through life hand in hand sounded more enjoyable.
Their eyes squinted as their lips curled up into a smile. Slowly, Tiger lowered his head while Ivy closed her eyes. And the promise of tomorrow was sealed with a soft kiss.
"Ugh..." Primo rolled his eyes and grumpily cupped his face. He already got back to the speedboat to distance himself from this dog food. But he realized this distance wasn’t enough.
He went with Tiger because the man was still recovering. Moreover, he didn’t like the dog food in the hospital and wanted to get as far away from it as possible. However, the place he went to also served him the same food.
"Is this my karma?" he wondered, glancing at Ivy and Tiger.
Primo sighed faintly and looked away, but this time, the corner of his lips curled up subtly.
