Chapter 576: [Bonus Chapter] A deep-rooted hatred

"That’s Olivia’s wish as well."

Silas slowly balled his hands on his lap, looking at Grandma Zhu’s side profile without blinking. This was the first time in many years he had heard of his mother’s name from Grandma Zhu’s mouth. She never talked about her before and often ended the conversation before it could even lead to discussing Olivia.

Why was she mentioning her now? After many years of avoiding the subject?

To be honest, Silas found it even more proper if Grandma Zhu would never dare mention his mother again. After all, Grandma Zhu forgave the man who killed his mother, and just let him go at large. She didn’t find justice for Olivia, but instead chose her wicked son even at the end.

"Grandma," he called under his breath, trying to calm himself down. "Why are you mentioning her now?"

"Yesterday was her death anniversary," Grandma Zhu’s response was short. "When I went to the temple yesterday to pray for her, I can’t help but tell her about many things."

Grandma Zhu went on and on about her yesterday’s activity. Silas listened in silence, eyes still on her side profile.

"She used to be so bright and lovely." Softness coated her eyes as she recalled Olivia. "Even until now, I blame myself for what happened. I should’ve just forced her to stay in my house. If only I had... she wouldn’t have faced such a tragic fate."

"Hah." Silas hung his head low, unable to stop himself from letting out a short laugh. This time, Grandma Zhu turned her head to him. "Grandma, there’s no point in dwelling on the past. She killed herself and abandoned me. My father, on the other hand, became a fugitive after pulling off that stupid stunt."

He raised his head, forcing a smile, but failed to hide the anger burning in his eyes. "Both of them were nothing to me. So, you shouldn’t speak as if they’ve been great parents. They aren’t."

"You don’t believe that, do you?" His breath hitched at Grandma Zhu’s response. "Silas, no matter what, you are my family, my beloved grandson. Even though you’ve done many things to disappoint me, my love for you will never change." ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Grandma Zhu looked at him straight in the eye, expressing the feelings she hadn’t expressed in the past. "Grandma... is not perfect, Silas. I have to be tough most of the time because if I don’t, others will think they can mess with me and my family. I am a woman, after all. And during my time, women aren’t or shouldn’t be as great as men."

"Olivia is a lovely woman who only thinks of her son’s well-being —"

"If she’s that great, then she shouldn’t have killed herself," he argued. "She shouldn’t have let me go through what I had to go through. Grandma, you know what I am talking about."

Grandma Zhu pressed her lips into a thin line, staring at Silas. By the looks of it, Silas was truly angry and still hadn’t made peace with the past. If only she knew Silas was angry at something else.

"I’m sorry," she said quietly. "I shouldn’t have mentioned her. I thought since you’ve grown now, we can talk about her."

"Tch. It’s okay, Grandma." Silas drew a deep breath as he pushed himself up. "I know you didn’t mean it like that."

Grandma Zhu looked back at him, only to see him already standing.

"Anyway, I’m going. I forgot I have to do something else before I attend the anniversary celebration." He bowed. "It’s good to see you again, Grandma. Have a nice day and I’ll see you later."

She didn’t reply and simply nodded, watching Silas back as he walked away. But right before Silas could reach the door, she spoke.

"Silas, take care."

Silas stopped as he held his breath. His jaw tightened as he clenched his teeth. Looking back, he forced a smile and bowed once again. He didn’t say anything as he went on his way, leaving Grandma Zhu all alone in the CEO’s office.

The second he closed the door behind him, Silas tried to keep his composure with everything he could. He glanced at the very few staff around, taking another deep breath as he took a large step away, heading straight to his office a few levels below.

When Silas entered the lift, his fist kept trembling on either side of him. His eyes burned with madness, grinding his teeth as he held back all the emotions swirling in his heart.

’Did she purposely mention her to mock me?’ he wondered to himself, letting out short snickers. ’Her greatest fear? What does she know?’

Just the thought that Grandma Zhu had the gall to mention Olivia’s name was enough to poke all the nerves in Silas’s body. He was already used to people mentioning Leon Zhu every once in a while. Actually, Axel would often compare him to his father, and he had grown numb about it.

But Olivia?

Had they all forgotten how they all turned a blind eye to her death? Were they truly so shameless to speak of her name when they simply agreed that Olivia’s death was suicide?

’She was happy, and she has no reason to kill herself!’ he roared internally, making his breath grow jagged. "I gave her the letter... and told her she didn’t kill herself." — someone else did it and made it appear a suicide.

Silas was certain of that. He remembered telling that to Grandma Zhu and Lionel and Ria. Even to Butler Fu, Silas convinced him it was Leon who killed his mother. But what did they do? They allowed the authority to call it a suicide without proper investigation. What made it worse was that they simply put a restraining order on Leon and forced the man to run away from the country.

They didn’t make an effort to give Olivia justice.

So... how dare she speak of her name with such gentleness?

’I’m going to kill you all...’ he laughed internally, looking down as this was enough reason to seal his determination to exterminate everyone. ’And I’ll get away from it so you’ll know what it feels to lose a loved one and see that person not paying for his crimes.’
