I Was a Loner, but My Class Got Summoned to Another World…-Chapter 320: Centaur Tribe
Inox had finally settled into a steady pace, and Logan followed behind comfortably on Lucent's back.
It just felt wrong to ride a humanoid like Inox — especially with that upper body shaped like a man. Not to mention, sitting there would've blocked his view entirely.
Lucent, on the other hand, was a far better mount. His broad back was perfect for riding, and the thick fur made it feel like lounging on a living, walking pillow.
Logan yawned. The afternoon sun was starting to dip — it had to be close to four. He didn't know how long it would take to find the creature the Light Spirit intended him to tame … but he knew time was of the essence.
Eventually, they reached a wide clearing where the trees gave way to an open field.
There, Inox suddenly stopped.
[I can't take you further,] the centaur said, turning his head. [The guards will fight you. There are many.]
Logan raised a brow. He looked past Inox — and sure enough, within the clearing ahead was a vast herd of centaurs. Dozens… no, hundreds. Maybe close to a thousand.
A tribe of warriors.
"Do you have a family here?" Logan asked, the question finally surfacing after hours of quiet travel.
Inox was always silent and serious, turned towards Logan and shook his head.
[Can't have,] he replied after a pause. [I was weak. Only the strong may form families.]
He shifted his hooves uneasily, clearly resisting the instinct to neigh, his pride pushing back against vulnerability.
[Well, you must be pretty strong now, right?] Logan asked with a sigh. [But I guess… they wouldn't like that you're different now.]
He jumped down from Lucent's back, stretching a little.
The tiger immediately sprawled out on the grass, letting out a low rumble of satisfaction as he could relax. He looked far too comfortable tossing around on the grass, but Logan felt it clearly fighting his instincts — hungry again.
Logan clicked his tongue. "Seriously, how gluttonous are you?"
He eyed Lucent with amusement. Maybe the tiger had been starving for years… and now wanted to make up for all of it.
Logan shook his head and turned back to Inox.
"Well, no use just standing here. Go on — ask. See what you can learn. Maybe they'll accept your new form."
He paused, then added with a shrug, "Just tell them it was the Light Spirit's doing or something… which is basically true. I got my power from it too."
He didn't know if they'd buy the explanation — or even if centaurs communicated the way humans did. For all he knew, they might prefer snorting and stomping to words.
[Do you think they'll understand?] Logan asked, glancing up at the stoic horse-man.
Inox didn't reply right away. His quiet nature — his loner vibe — reminded Logan of himself more than he liked to admit.
[They'll understand,] Inox replied, hoof clacking against the ground in a rhythmic pattern — a nervous habit, Logan guessed. [But I'm scared they won't let me speak.]
Logan sighed. "Just go. You're strong enough now to defend yourself if things go bad."
He glanced at a nearby tree, then pointed. "Actually, before you accidentally kill one of your old friends, why don't you test that strength on something that doesn't bleed?"
Inox tilted his head, then walked over to the tree. With a hesitant motion, he raised one hand and slapped the trunk.
Leaves rained down from above. A visible indent formed in the bark. His palm stung, but not like it would have before — not with that new body.
[Yes. Understand now…] the centaur nodded slowly. [Okay. I will go ask the elders.]
Logan watched as some of the herd began turning toward them. The sound of the tree strike had caught attention.
Before the guards could come searching and find him and Lucent, Inox wisely stepped out of the forest and into the clearing.
He galloped with confidence — until two centaur guards intercepted him.
Logan tensed.
He was ready to intervene, already calculating how to warp them out if needed. But no skills were cast or sounds of clashing.
Instead, they spoke — in that strange, guttural mix of snorts and tones only their kind seemed to understand.
After a tense exchange that lasted maybe three minutes, the guards stepped aside. They still flanked him, but allowed him passage.
Logan took note: Inox was now clearly larger than the two. Stronger, too.
The change after evolution definitely changed his tamed centaur.
Logan looked up at a nearby tree, tossing one of his scalpels toward a branch as a distraction.
He missed — badly.
The blade clattered down, nearly skewering his foot.
"…What a joke," he muttered, then facepalmed, shaking his head.
He wasn't like Yui, who could only use one mobility skill.
Smirking, Logan conjured a Darkness Arrow — a spell he'd grown particularly fond of. The enchanted projectile lingered briefly after being summoned, giving him just enough time to inspect it before he let it flow towards the bark of the nearest tree.
He had already mastered how to use it for killing — nailing the target location with precision.
With a flick of his fingers, he cast Darkness Arrow again aiming for where he wanted near the canopy of the tree and immediately followed it up with Shadow Step.
No need to call out the Japanese name this time. It was second nature now.
A split-second later, Logan materialized above the targeted tree branch — successfully warping into position with a grin.
He still needed proper weapons infused with darkness, though. Something that would create the smokescreen-like effect he wanted. But for now, this worked well enough for quick stealthy teleportation.
From this vantage point, Logan could see Inox in the distance being led toward a large gathering of centaurs.
His eyes shifted to the group's center — where an elder stood. The male's hair had streaks of white, his posture was tall but reserved. Likely an elder, not the tribe's leader.
The actual leader wasn't hard to find — he stood further out, engaged in a duel with another centaur.
They weren't aiming to kill, but sparring intensely.
One of them — white with brown markings — stood out. He was surrounded by several females, all clearly from the herd's inner circle.
Logan didn't stare long. Despite the fur covering their bodies, the difference between genders was obvious — he felt he would get caught gawking.
Back near the elders, Inox spoke briefly. Logan noticed he wasn't taken to the leader. He wasn't even given the chance.
After just a few minutes, they turned him around and escorted him back.
"Well, at least that was faster than I would've imagined," Logan muttered, arms crossed as he crouched on the branch.
But then—
The leader of the centaurs suddenly stopped his sparring. He turned sharply, his gaze locking onto Inox.
With a powerful bellow, he shouted something across the field. The guards immediately shifted formation, falling into a defensive stance around the herd as the leader galloped forward, kicking up tufts of grass with every stride.
It seemed one of the guards had informed him after all.
Logan didn't move. Not yet. He wanted to see what would happen.
But his instincts kicked in — it had improved from surviving countless close calls and fights.
He reached into his pouch, pulled out three raw mana stones, and crushed them between his fingers, absorbing the potent, unrefined energy.
A cool surge ran through his body as his mana recovered.
"Let's see if this goes well before I go in…" he whispered, already bracing for the worst.
