“We’ll meet here again at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning and then officially start the investigation… That’s all, the meeting is adjourned.”

The next morning.

Chen Lun once again arrived at the Judiciary building.

He went up to the second floor, where there was a large dining hall that provided free food and drinks for the members of the Judiciary.

The members of Investigative Team One were dining there, and Chen Lun strode over.

“Captain, you’re quite early today. Would you like something to eat? I’ll get it for you.”

The young man, Lane, said enthusiastically, raising his hand.

At his table, there was also another male and two females, Welles, Xibei, and Federica. The members all greeted Chen Lun.

The Madison trio hadn’t arrived yet.

“Good morning, Captain Jack.”

“Good morning.”

Chen Lun nodded in response.

After sitting down, he smiled slightly at Lane.

“I had breakfast before leaving home, no need to bother.”

Chen Lun said and suddenly felt a gaze from the next table. Following his instinct, he looked and saw a man with long brown hair quietly watching him.

‘Shadow Walker Hamilton…’ Chen Lun thought to himself.

The man was dressed in a casual coat, with a pair of leather gloves and a cowboy hat beside him, enjoying a plate of steak with pasta. He was sitting at the same table with members of “Investigative Team Two,” nine people in all.

“Jack, would you like to play a game with me?” Hamilton asked, chewing his food and offering a faint smile.

“Hmm?”

Chen Lun was puzzled.

Together with his teammates, he looked toward Hamilton and the others, not understanding what this guy meant.

“We are alike, as new members of the Imperial Judiciary, yet leading teams on our very first significant mission… I’m curious about you, Jack, both the rumors of your past and the person you are now.”

Hamilton put down his cutlery and pointed at Chen Lun and himself.

“Since we’re heading to the Spirit World for an investigation, why don’t we see which team can achieve results first?”

He pulled out an Imperial Bank certificate.

“This is a thousand Gold Pounds, as a wager for the game, how about it? Whichever team wins can share it amongst their members as an extra celebration reward.”

The teammates from both sides immediately showed interest upon hearing this.

These Gold Pounds weren’t much for them, just a nice little incentive. Still, the competition sounded quite interesting and could stimulate their competitive spirit.

Unexpectedly, Chen Lun shook his head lightly.

“Sorry, I’m not interested in gambling.”

The teammates from Group Two around Hamilton started booing, laughing, and thinking that this Mr. Jack was all talk and too afraid to accept such a challenge.

“Jack, why not accept Hamilton’s challenge? Are you scared?”

At that moment, a man’s voice came.

Everyone looked, and saw Madison, Rocky, and Meris slowly walking over, then rudely sitting down at the table of Group One.

“That’s a thousand Gold Pounds, and if we win, that’s a sizeable amount of extra pocket money, isn’t it? Or are you saying you can’t afford such a wager, Captain? No worries, I can cover it for you,” Madison said with a taunting smile.

Chen Lun glanced at him and spoke calmly:

“If you’re interested, feel free to make a bet with Captain Hamilton yourself. I will not join in…”

Then he looked at his teammates:

“Are we all fed? Let’s prepare to depart.”

Madison chuckled but said nothing, his disdain more apparent.

Meanwhile, Hamilton at the neighboring table shook his head slightly in disappointment, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and signaled his teammates to stand up and leave, ready to enter the Spirit World and begin their operation.

“We’re full, Captain,” Lane said, observing his captain’s expression and speaking tactfully.

Chen Lun nodded, stood up, and headed toward the restaurant exit on his own.

“Meet on the first floor.”

Lane and the other teammates quickly got up and followed out, but the last to leave, Madison’s trio, exchanged looks and snickered, calling him a coward.

The Spirit World.

The azure view blurred the boundaries, only vaguely making out the outline and layout of the first floor lobby as eight figures suddenly appeared there.

Chen Lun glanced at his teammates and took out a palm-sized metal mini-anchor, then immediately dropped it on the ground.

Thud!

The anchor, heavy as if weighing a ton, made a dull sound as it hit the ground.

“The first ‘Spirit World Anchor’ is dropped here as our starting point,” Chen Lun told his teammates.

Lane and others silently nodded, but Madison scoffed:

“Captain Jack, we only have three ‘anchors.’ We shouldn’t waste one here… If we need more as we go deeper later, lacking them could seriously delay our progress.”

“I am the captain,” Chen Lun said lightly.

“I make the calls here.”

“You’re right, Jack, I can’t argue with that… I just hope it doesn’t turn out as I said.”

Madison shrugged.

Chen Lun no longer paid him any mind, turning to look around instead.

In his field of vision, the surrounding environment harbored sparse cracks, which were the passages to the second layer of the Spirit World… Chen Lun’s Insight was now at 71 points, so such details could not escape his eyes.

“There’s no value in exploring the shallow layer of the Spirit World. Let’s go straight to the next level,” Chen Lun told his teammates.

“Yes, Captain,” Lane and the others responded.

Everyone could see the cracks in the Spirit World, so they headed toward a somewhat larger fissure. Sensing the material approaching, the rift violently opened and instantly swallowed them.
