Rewinding the clock a bit...

"By the way, Abbott, I suggest you clear out before you get caught in the fallout," Smoking Mirror told Abbott Longhorn verbally, while subtly handing the old monk a piece of stone with a message cloaked in aether.

"What the—oh.'

Once he received the message, Abbott Longhorn merely nodded his head before making himself scarce.

"As you wish, honored ancestor."

Evidently, he had made the right decision in heeding Smoking Mirror's warning. Shortly after he had left, Zhen Liu's Kaijin came crashing down like meteorites and began unleashing a barrage of attacks against Smoking Mirror.

When this started happening, Abbott Longhorn wanted to immediately activate the contingency he was just handed but stopped himself once he realized that there was no opening to do so without possibly getting his arm sliced off, a hole punched through his torso or having his ear drums implode.

But then they knocked Smoking Mirror into a wall, and then he finally saw his opening.

...Now back to the present...

[Spring Cannon!]

Updat𝓮d from freewēbnoveℓ.com.

Springerdermain launched himself forward with aether enhanced legs towards Smoking Mirror, ready to headbutt the fallen shard of a god back into being a spiritual body.

But before he could do just that, the Buddhist known as Abbott Longhorn appeared out of nowhere with an obsidian black pearl in his hands.

[Three Steps of the Buddha!]

[Huh?!]

[What the—?!]

Cloaked in aether and Nirvana energy, Abbott Longhorn managed to speed right past Razorstella and Screamira before positioning himself directly between Smoking Mirror and Springerdermain.

[Buddha's Admonishing Palm!]

[BAH!]

Once he was in position, Abbott Longhorn struck forward with a giant manifested palm of concentrated Nirvana energy and sent Springerdermain flying backwards. With this immediate threat neutralized, Abbott Longhorn willed the palm to act as a wall between himself and the kaijin.

That way, he could focus the rest of his aether and attention to the obsidian pearl in his hands.

[What the hell is this old monk doing?!] Razorstella roared.

[I don't know but it feels familiar...] Screamira commented.

None of the Kaijin could sense any danger coming off of this strange looking pearl, but they could sense that it was dense with a familiar feeling power.

It was a power that they only felt when Zhen Liu activated the [Key to Nowhere].

Unlike Zhen Liu's key that created a literal door connected to a specific location though, this strange obsidian pearl just started spewing out a weird colored smoke that seemed to have a hint of randomness to it.

In other words, once this treasure had finished activating, it was very likely that Zhen Liu and the Kaijin would be unable to track them down in the near future.

That is...unless they did something about it.

[They're gonna teleport away!] Springerdermain pointed out, giving the answer to his fellow kaijin. [We gotta stop them!]

[We'd love to, but that stupid hand is making it real hard for us to get in there,] Razorstella retorted.

[Leave it to me!] Zhen Liu roared before springing into action.

In one fluid movement, Zhen Liu held aloft both his [Veteran's Bone Club] and [Hammer of the Dearly Departed], loaded them both up with as much [Ghost Flame] as his body could muster at this moment, and transformed the former into a bone spear.

Once he had the projectile in hand, Zhen Liu slammed it's bottom with the hammer and launched it with enough force to rival a ballistic missile.

Unfortunately, while the power behind it was immense, the accuracy was a touch lacking. Then again, it probably didn't help that in the process of launching the bone spear that was accelerated with [Ghost Flame], a tendril of smoke had suddenly shifted Zhen Liu's balance at the last second.

Crack!

[FUCK!]

The end result of this interaction was that while Zhen Liu's spear was able to smash through Abbott Longhorn's manifested palm, it missed the old monk by an inch. Adding an ironic twist to this whole situation, the spear had impacted the point where Smoking Mirror's severed arm was located against the wall.

"Oooh! That stings!"

On the plus side,Zhen Liu managed to singe Smoking Mirror a bit with the [Ghost Flames].

"Well, it's been fun," Smoking Mirror mocked as the obsidian pearl shaped treasure finished activating, enshrouding him and Abbott Longhorn in a strange cloud of smoke that began to travel out of the massive hole in the ceiling that was created moments ago. "Next time we meet, I'll be sure to properly sacrifice you and make your power my own."

In response to this provocation, Zhen Liu took a deep breath before replying.

"And I'll be sure to rectify my mistake by removing your leg before sacrificing you to your rival, Quetzalcoatl."

At the mention of that name, Zhen Liu could see Smoking Mirror's confident demeanor finally crack for a hot second.

But before any words could be shared, the shard of a god and the old bull of a monk disappeared into literal smoke.

Zhen Liu and the Kaijin briefly attempted to use their senses to detect them, but alas, the duo was well and truly gone.

Making this moment even more annoying though, they could sense that the Silver Jungle Dragon Company warriors were disappearing one by one as well, probably because of that same smoke cloud.

Well, all the ones that were still alive anyways.

[Ain't this a fine case of murderous blue balls,] Razorstella growled. [And we can't even beat out some catharsis above us either.]

[Well,] Springerdermain said in an attempt to provide some comfort over the situation. [At least we can mark this as a—]

^NOOOO!^

But before he could even say the word, "victory", a scream of bloody murder ripped through the ears of both Kaijin and mortals alike like a wild horse.

[Who the fuck was that?]

[Didn't sound like any of the Producer's cousins, I know how they sound like screaming,] Screamira answered in a weirdly cagey manner.

Zhen Liu, however, knew the answer.

"I think that was...Lythero?"

...Why was Lythero screaming?...

When Lythero lost hold of all seven of his masters' swords, he didn't panic.

As Gold-tiered treasures, there weren't many things in this universe that were able to break or damage such things.

Sure, Platinum-tiered and above aether treasures had the power to do so, but they were incredibly rare and wouldn't be in the hands of someone like Duke Diamoro.

However, in defiance of these expectations, the old bastard did have something capable of breaking those swords.

[The Scarab of Greed].

This strange looking treasure resembled the titular beetle, but was covered in rust.

However, once it was given the command, the beetle-like treasure suddenly shook off the rust and sprang to life.

What happened next was a tragedy for the young swordsman.

Lythero was just about to reach the first of the seven swords, Master Rabbit's [Vorpal Scimitar], with the plan to use its speed enhancing effect to reclaim the other six.

However...

CRACK!

^W-what?^

Moments before his fingers could even touch the hilt, the scimitar was broken into two clean pieces by the [Scarab of Greed].

As the beetle flew away, Lythero could sense that part of the power that once composed the [Vorpal Scimitar] was stolen by the scarab.

From there, things got worse.

'I—wait, what about the other swords?!'

The moment Lythero turned his attention to the other swords, his worst fear was realized in that moment.

That stupid fucking beetle was flying towards the other swords, with the aim of breaking and stealing their powers as well.

^No...no!^

Compelled by the desire to stop this tragedy from further unfolding, Lythero charged his legs with aether in order to intercept the beetle or at least secure the swords before it had a chance to do so either.

^Where do you think you're going?!^

Splat!

^Gah!^

But before he could take a step, he found that his leg was entangled in a long, aether-enhanced lizard's tongue that was stickier than even a spider's web.

^Kidanna!^

^On it!^

Understanding how much these blades mattered to Lythero, Kidanna moved as fast as she could in securing at least one of these blades from the horrible machinations of this awful beetle.

But alas, she wasn't fast enough.

^Shit, shit, shit!^

Despite her best efforts, she only managed to secure two do the swords that were the closest to her: Master Tortoise's [Black Iron Slab] and Master Coyote's [Trickster's Fang Pack Kukri].

The remaining four were unfortunately shattered one after the other.

^Eh. Five out of seven isn't that bad,^ Duke Diamoro mocked with an arrogant tone. ^That just means I have to break the rest mys—^

Before Duke Diamoro could finish his threat, he suddenly disappeared into a plume of smoke.

^What the fuck?^

Oddly enough, this wasn't a unique occurrence.

One by one, all over the battlefield, the Silver-tongues were disappearing into smoke before the eyes of the Goldenbacks...much to their confusion.

^Wait, what?^

^Did...did we just win?^

^I...guess?^

^Why...does it feel wrong then?^
