Khalifa couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

The man frowned, face still deadpan, but his eyes were looking at her weirdly. In his mind, he was no doubt confused why she was laughing.

It was adorable.

In her laughing she noticed her state. It seemed that from falling down that height and the succeeding scuffle with the mob, her shirt gained quite a few tears and lost a couple of buttons.

A good portion of her breast had been visible and the sight of her now would make normal men leak.

But look, this guy showed no reaction at all.

Either he was gay or asexual.

Or a robot.

Whatever it was, she wondered in curiosity. If she were to walk naked in front of him, would he still have no physical reaction?

She knew most asexual people couldn’t get sexually attracted, but their bodies could still get aroused.

She shook her head off the thoughts. This was not the place nor the time for such thoughts.

Instead, she just casually arranged her shirt the best she could (she had plenty of change of clothes in space, but she wasn’t stupid to show it off to a stranger), and she looked at him with a professional smile.

"My team should get here soon," she told him, "Aren’t there any other survivors? From the bottom floor, perhaps?"

"It wasn’t that I don’t believe you, but you know the SOP."

It didn’t seem to affect him much, and nothing changed as he spoke—really like a robot.

"You can check if you can, but the elevator is broken. Manual repair on the machine room would be needed. The elevator model happened to use the Smart Integrated System, and that is unfortunately outside my area of expertise."

She knew the only access to the other floors was through this. She also knew the canteen, farms, and the others were on this floor.

If they were to find survivors, they would likely only be on this floor.

As she mused, he had long turned away and went back to sitting on one of the long benches there.

She smiled and sauntered, sitting down casually next to him.

He frowned, obviously uncomfortable with her entering his private space.

However, before he could utter a snide remark (i.e. you smell, get away from me), she scooted to the far corner of the sofa. Comfortable, but precisely 1.2 meter away and safely outside his private space.

"How did you survive?" she ended up asking him, "And how many didn’t turn immediately?"

The man looked at her. "So it really happened, even outside."

She nodded, pleased to have a decent response, "How much do you know about what’s happening outside?"

"I surmise that most of the population died and reanimated in what was colloquially known as zombies."

"Right. What do you know about the virus?" She asked, then looked at him deeply.

"Are you… from that team?"

He nodded.

From the book much of the knowledge would come from the survivor(s) in the laboratory, which happened to be, apparently, just this guy.

As such, the ’discoveries’ were unfortunately revealed by her and Mira prematurely. She’s a bit guilty.

But it saved more lives so it didn’t matter who got credit in the end.

However, it did make her a bit softer on him, which made an eyebrow of his rise in puzzlement.

"Sorry."

The man’s eyebrows then furrowed in confusion, wondering what she was on about this time.

"Well…," she paused, "I had a few prophetic dreams so I may have shared some of the things that should’ve been attributed to you. There are two of us, actually."

He’d find out when he got out anyway, might as well get some friendship points by being honest now.

"Such as?" And… Prophetic dreams??

"Well, we know that the virus came from the earth itself, trying to cleanse itself. We also know it primarily targets humans, and other species are more or less minimally affected.

"And, finally, zombies will evolve to be able to use elements. They can start manipulating the elements like fire and earth.

"I was not aware of the last point." and… elements?

He wasn’t able to ask though as the woman suddenly went past his private space a bit and leaned over.

Her face was suddenly near his. .

He had to admit she appealed to the aesthetic sense.

"Not yet," she smiled, before turning back again with crossed arms. "But you’d figure it out eventually."

At her words, the man’s shoulders relaxed, just a bit.

Seeing that the man was finally not so dismissive of her, she proceeded on introducing herself.

"My name is Khalifa. I dropped somewhere so my team will have to find another way in. What’s your name?"

"Dr. Zed, Sigmund."

"Can you tell me more about what happened during this time?"

He obviously wasn’t the type to speak though, so Khalifa guided him along. "A lot of people will ask you these questions later. Or you can tell me and I can be your spokesperson."

He looked at her with a characteristic deadpan expression on his face. For a moment, she thought he’d say something acerbic.

"Only about a tenth of the people did not turn, but we are scientists and a lot of people in my team are old. A lot of people died within a few hours.

"We went to the canteen on the floor, but the stocks were small because the teams in that floor were also few in number."

She nodded, empathic. "And?"

They were completely unaware that he had spoken more than what he had for a day with a team of people.

Back then, if he wanted to communicate something, he would just show them data. Of course, that wasn’t possible at this time.

"When I saw what was happening, I immediately went up to the control room. Unfortunately, accidents happened and many people died."

"I’m sorry to hear that. It must’ve been scary."

"No," was all he said. He realized he had talked a lot and crossed his arms, closing his eyes, body language oozing of a ’don’t talk to me’ vibe.

Khalifa giggled but nodded in understanding. She just sat relaxedly on the bench with him and, together, they patiently waited in silence.

Minutes trickled by and Sigmund couldn’t help but turn a little to the side, but not entirely.

However, from his peripheral vision he could see Khalifa staring at him. Considering how he didn’t feel any movement for a while, it meant she had been staring at him the whole time.

He completely turned to her with a frown, "What is it?"

She didn’t seem to mind being caught. On the contrary, she sat relaxedly with her chin resting on her knuckles, unique blue eyes not taking her sights on him.

"I just found you nice to look at," she said frankly and Sigmund didn’t know how to respond to it.

However, before he could open his mouth, the door abruptly opened again.

"KHALIFA!"
