Chapter 272: Chapter 270 Just Getting Started
Adrian moved his eyelids and slowly woke from his deep slumber, opening his eyes. The first thing that came into view was the simple ceiling of the cabin’s living room, with morning sunlight streaming in from outside; it seemed he could also hear the chirping of birds.
Taking a deep breath, Adrian looked at the girl nestled in his arms. Sarah, lying on his chest, was still fast asleep, her lips curled up in a slight smile as if she were in the midst of a beautiful dream, her arms wrapped so tightly around him that it made moving difficult.
Shaking his head with a silent chuckle, Adrian pulled back a corner of the blanket that enveloped them and stretched his body, which was a bit stiff from sleeping on the floor, trying to pry the girl’s arms open. But after several attempts, he couldn’t get up without waking Sarah, so he ended up sighing and tapping his head against the floor as he lay back down.
However, this very action stirred Sarah; she trembled lightly and then slowly opened her eyes, looking around in a daze before giving Adrian a sleepy smile.
“Good morning, Ed,” she said in a soft, mellow voice.
“Good morning, darling,” Adrian smiled and kissed her tender cheek, “Sorry I woke you.”
“It’s okay, I should get up too,” Sarah said as she attempted to sit up, but then grimaced.
“The first time is always painful, and although I did my best, some things are inevitable,” Adrian said with a smile as he stroked her head. “But don’t worry, it’ll feel much better after a day.”
Despite their newfound closeness, Sarah’s cheeks flushed with a touch of red, and she stuck out her tongue sheepishly before shyly covering her head with the blanket.
Adrian laughed heartily, patting her through the blanket, “You can sleep a bit longer, I’ll go make breakfast.”
He got dressed after climbing off the floor and just as he turned on his phone, a call came through. Adrian raised his eyebrows in surprise before pressing the answer button, “Hello, who are you looking for?”

“It’s me, Ed. Your secretary told me you went to San Bernardino National Forest Park. Was it really necessary to have a date in that kind of place?” Claude’s teasing voice came through straight away.
“Get to the point, Claude. I have a lot to do today,” Adrian said, irritable.
“Wow, wow, someone’s not in a good mood. What happened, did I interrupt your lovemaking?” Claude’s laughter grew louder, but then he changed his tone, “Say, haven’t you forgotten something?”
“Forgotten something?” Adrian frowned, then his face relaxed into a hint of excitement, “The dust has settled.”
“The dust has settled,” Claude repeated, “so there’s a party tonight you must attend, at my house, you got that? It’s at my place.”
“I know, at your place, not at The Godfather’s,” Adrian said with a laugh, “I’ll be there.”
After hanging up the phone, Adrian sighed in relief, feeling unburdened, then turned to look at Sarah. The girl had wrapped herself in the blanket, looking very cumbersome, with only her bright and curious eyes showing.
“I’m sorry, Sarah, we have to make a small adjustment to our schedule,” Adrian said, scratching his head.
“It’s okay. You have your own things to take care of,” Sarah seemed quite understanding, only her voice was muffled by the blanket covering her mouth, “but I might need to rest a bit longer, you know, I might not be able to walk…”
“I can carry you. How could I miss an opportunity to hold you in my arms?” Adrian laughed and walked over, embracing the girl through the blanket and kissing her on the forehead.
Sarah giggled, snuggling warmly and affectionately into Adrian’s embrace, her adoring demeanor was endearing. Adrian held her in his arms, gently patting her back as sunlight filled the living room, like a serene oil painting.
==========================
The festive and melodious music, the elegantly dressed crowd chatting and laughing, the couples dancing gracefully in the ballroom—these were all essential scenes at a cocktail party. This particular soiree at Claude’s new mansion in Beverly Hills was attended by quite a few prominent figures, such as Warner’s Geoffrey Cassowary, Disney’s Michael Eisner, Viacom’s Sam Redstone, as well as Donaldson Duncan from CBS, and Oliver Miles, the head of NBC’s Los Angeles branch, all of whom wielded extensive influence in the media industry.
Naturally, the theme of today’s party was to celebrate AC Media’s successful acquisition of TBS. Ted Turner had finally agreed to Claude’s terms. Claude had made it clear to him that even if he could still struggle, they had enough funds to manage. Furthermore, Adrian’s arrogant display that bordered on provocation and mockery had convinced Turner that these two ambitious young men had sufficient strength. Turner’s intrinsic competitiveness wanted to bet on seeing how far these young men could go; thus, the deal resulted in a happy outcome for everyone.
“This is indeed something to celebrate,” Adrian said after the party, finding a moment to chat with Claude in the study, which was why he hadn’t brought a date.
“Of course, after planning for so long, it certainly is worth celebrating.” The glasses filled with amber liquid clinked together with a ding, and Claude immediately tilted his head back to down his whiskey in one gulp.
“This is just the beginning,” Adrian said, not doing the same, instead swirling the glass and staring into the liquid as if in a trance.
“Yes, this is just the beginning,” Claude echoed, taking a long breath while sitting at the desk.
Although nothing more was said, both knew the meaning behind their words. To the average person, they might already seem successful, able to wield significant influence in the media industry at a young age. Yet, they were aware that to the higher echelons, they were still quite small. Keeping themselves from being swallowed up, forming alliances, and continuing to grow on a win-win basis were problems they constantly needed to consider.
However, Adrian wasn’t nearly as concerned as Claude because…
“As long as we keep this up, Claude, this place will eventually belong to us,” Adrian raised his glass to Claude.
“You still have that confident look about you, Ed,” Claude poured himself another half glass and raised it for another toast, “I believe if there’s one miracle, there will certainly be another.”
“Good,” Adrian smiled, “Now I’m giving you two targets. How you achieve them is up to you.”
“Oh?” Claude raised an eyebrow, “Let’s hear them.”
After a sip of whiskey, Adrian set his glass aside and sat up, casually fixing his gaze on his close friend: “Marvel and… HBO!” (To be continued. For further updates, please visit www.qidian.com. More chapters are available, support the author, support genuine reading!)
