Kiss Me if You Can-Chapter 25Vol. 2
That morning, as Emma and their mother had cereal for breakfast, they discussed seriously how to get Josh to the hospital. They had managed to make an appointment, but they couldn’t call an ambulance. The only way they could take Josh to the hospital was to transport him by car.
The problem was that Josh was too large.
Those gorillas.
Emma thought to herself angrily. Plus, Josh was the leader of the gorillas. As far as she knew, her brother was over six feet tall and weighed nearly 200 pounds. He’d likely lost some weight after not eating or drinking for days, but even then, it wasn’t going to make much of a difference.
This was the time to use the gorillas’ teamwork.
Josh was comparatively leaner than the members of his football team. Thinking about the massive bodies and heights of the others, Emma realized that now was the time to use those big guys to her advantage.

"I'll make the call."
With that declaration, Emma climbed the stairs and headed toward Josh’s room. When she opened the door, she immediately felt the fragrance, which had filled the house earlier, now stronger and more intense.
It was definitely Josh’s scent.
Emma thought this as she stepped inside. Josh was still asleep, his face peaceful, seemingly without a care in the world.
Has he lost some weight?

As Emma quietly gazed at his face, she felt a twinge of sympathy and tilted her head. Then, suddenly, she froze as a thought she had forgotten struck her.
Wait a minute. That can’t be right.
No matter how she thought about it, this was impossible. But these symptoms were exactly like what she had learned at school. Above all, the fresh, sweet scent around Josh was the evidence.
Could it be...?
"Uh... Mom!"
Panicked, Emma stumbled back, turned, and ran out of the room. The sound of a door slamming echoed, followed by hurried footsteps, which soon disappeared.
At that moment, their mother was putting a letter in the mailbox. She had decided to take the day off from work to go to the hospital. Sighing quietly with worry about Josh, she got lost in her thoughts when a neighbor who had come out to water the lawn approached her.
"Oh, hello. Good morning!"
The neighbor greeted cheerfully, and their mother forced a smile in response.
"Yeah, I suppose so. Good morning."
The neighbor, unaware of their mother’s concerns, continued with some idle chatter. She talked about her roses, debated whether to get a dog or a cat, and mentioned a small argument she had with her husband the previous day about a botched errand. She complained about how men never seem to understand what they’re being told.
As she went on about her husband, she suddenly realized her mistake and stopped talking. Their mother pretended not to notice, looking down to check the address on the mail. The neighbor quickly cleared her throat and shifted the conversation.
"How’s everything going lately? You must be busy with everything on your plate, especially with two kids now."
"Ah, yeah. That’s right."
Unaware that Josh was sick, the neighbor continued casually.
"This is the most sensitive time, isn’t it? Kids need attention all the time, but especially at this age, it's more demanding. My kid was like that too."
"Yeah..."
Is she talking about puberty?
Their mother thought vaguely, half-heartedly agreeing. She figured it was time to come up with an excuse to go back inside, but the neighbor, laughing, continued.
"If you ever need any advice, just come by anytime. I’ve got plenty of supplies, like inhibitors or delay medications. We’ve got a few extras at home."
"Excuse me?"
Surprised by the unexpected offer, their mother blinked in confusion. The neighbor misunderstood her reaction and continued kindly.
"I always make sure to stock up on everything, especially because my husband insists. After a manifestation, there’s a lot to manage and so many things to remember. Feel free to stop by whenever. We should all help each other out in times like this."
"Manifestation?"
"Mom!"
At that moment, Emma shouted as she ran out of the house. Both their mother and the neighbor turned their attention to her, and Emma quickly continued.
"Josh isn’t sick! He’s not sick because of a cold!"
"Manifestation?"
Their mother muttered, still in shock. Emma stopped in her tracks, then nodded after a brief pause.
"I think so."
With Emma’s words, everyone fell silent. Their mother stared wide-eyed, the neighbor looked between them with growing interest, and Emma, breathless, waited for her mother’s response.
