Chapter 70 - Too Far?

Thud!

"Cough! Cough!"

Alicia's eyes widened at the coughing figure that crashed right before them—Blonde hair, darker than his. The figure's pupils were not visible, rolled back into her sockets. She was about to lose consciousness.

Her left shoulder burned with sparks of amethyst, and the white coat she wore now had a black spot like a piece of charcoal. Her finger twitched as if lightning ran through her.

"Alea!" The girl with red hair who was standing beside Alicia stepped forward, kneeling beside the injured one. She had introduced herself as Leona Von Emberhold—the sister of the gentleman she had met before—Raiden Von Emberhold.

The other white-haired girl, Cynthia, had just run off to protect her brother from the man who violated him—leaving him crumpled and bloodied.

A man she knew all too well. After all, he was her mentor's nephew.

The person she always thought was a man who could only sit in quiet corners, thinking about something. Antagonising anyone who would approach him—Although this part still applies.

But this was different.

Alicia's body stiffened, her breath caught in her throat as she looked at the young man before her. His face dripped with crimson, piercing silver eyes locked onto the red-haired boy and the white-haired girl with a cold, surgical precision.

His coat was no longer white from the blood that was splattered onto it by his own fists. He held no blade or club in his hands, just his bloodied clenched knuckles.

W-what happened to him?

She was in a daze about what had just happened. So, were the gatherers who were watching the duel, their jaws slack as their eyes remained glued to the scene unfolding.

"Hey... won't he make an enemy out of both Frostholm and Blitzfeld like this?"

"That is his sister. Why did—did he harm her?"

The murmurs increased in the area as time passed more students gathered, forming a huge crowd outside the ceremonial building.

She stared at Noah as he took slow, deliberate steps towards Raiden, who held his flaming sword in their hand. His hands were trembling as his foot remained frozen. Unable to move.

He gritted his teeth and shouted. "Why would you do that?! Isn't she your sister?!" His grip tightened on the hilt. The intensity of the red flames increased every second that passed.

Sister? Alicia's gaze shifted back to the blonde girl, who was now out cold in the arms of Leona. She is his sister?

"Sister? Pffft—Hahahahahahaha." She looked back at Noah, who was now laughing like a madman set loose. "Sister? Seriously? What kind of bullshit are you spouting?"

"'That thing' is not my sister." His voice lowered, eyes fixed on the flaming hero. "I did say, didn't I? That the Blitzfelds are not my family. And you still think I would call her my sister?" He laughed again, putting his hands over his abdomen.

"Noah..." Cynthia mumbled out. Her sabre now lowered.

Raiden's expression stiffened. He looked angrier now. "I don't know what happened between you and your sister. I don't know what happened to you, but that doesn't mean you can just hurt anyone without any reason."

He swung his blade at Noah, who easily avoided it by side-stepping. The flame left a wide vertical red arc in the air.

Noah shot his hand out, gripping the fiery blade in his palms. The hot flames seared through his skin. "That's all you got?" He blurted out, a smug smile carved on his face. He did not seem bothered by the burns.

"What are you doing?" Raiden asked as he tried to pull his blade out, but to no avail. Noah was much stronger than him.

"Noah, let go! You will hurt yourself!" Cynthia shouted. She tried to move but couldn't.

"Worry about yourself, not me." He shot back, his silver eyes now gleaming blue. The flames that burned his hand changed into a shade of light blue.

And then, the whole sword was enveloped by that blue flame. It was not hot, but rather cold—cold enough to encase the blade in ice.

"W-what is this?" Raiden huffed out, white breath releasing from his lips. The air became frigid like winter in Frostholm.

"Let's just say that it is a gift to you, Mr.Protagonist."

A sharp crack reverberated.

Raiden and Cynthia's eyes widened as the blade of the montante cracked under his grip, shattering into millions of small ice crystals. All falling down on the concrete ground below.

"What the hell are those flames?" Leona mumbled out, still holding the unconscious Alea in her hands.

All the students shared her reaction, and no one in the crowd spoke a single word. They all just looked at the blue flames with wide eyes.

Didn't he only have a single affinity?

(A/N: Alicia did not know about his shadow affinity because he never revealed it to anyone other than Aeris. Not even to Aunt or Michael.)

Alicia also trembled; she knew Noah did not have a second affinity other than his lightning. She only saw him using his lightning whenever he sparred with Michael.

But this was new.

Not only the shocking discovery that Noah had hidden his second affinity, but rather it was those blue flames that did not seem to burn. Rather, they froze.

Just like it did with Raiden's blade—turning it into ice and shattering it out of existence.

This was not some random affinity like fire or ice that a person could awaken, it was something else entirely. Something like an anomaly that should not exist.

"STOP!"

A deep voice boomed across the entire campus. Everyone, including Alicia, stared at the source—Grey hair neatly slid back, his cold blue eyes locked onto Raiden and Noah. The man wore a fitted black suit. His presence commanded power, authority and wisdom.

It was the Headmaster of the Academy, Magnus Von Edevane.

He approached the two fighters, each step echoing against the pavement. His gaze swept over all the students, making everyone flinch. Then it landed on the bloody mess of a student. "What happened here?" He asked.

He narrowed his eyes as soon as it landed on Alea and Leona. His jaw tightened slightly, and his calm expression distorted. He turned to Raiden and asked again. "What happened here?" His tone was dark and controlled as if to not let his anger burst. "Who harmed these two students?"

Raiden swallowed dryly as the hilt of the sword fell from his hand. Trembling, he raised his hand and pointed at Noah. "H-he did it, sir."

His gaze now shifted to Noah, whose blue flames slowly extinguished. Beads of sweat formed on his face. "Is it true?" He asked, the tightening of his jaw easing.

"Yes." Noah simply replied, not arguing back. His fists were clenched.

He closed his eyes as if thinking about something, hands behind his back. "Student Raiden," He called out. "Take the two of them to the infirmary and you..." His eyes opened, locked on Noah.

"Come to my office, now. You will explain everything," Turning his back towards them. "And then I will decide whether you should remain in this institution..." He paused, turning his head and glancing at Noah.

"Or be expelled."
