Chapter 1360: Chapter 1360: Archery

"General Algernon, what’s this with Xander Cook? How dare he blow up Rat Town?"

Inside a black jeep, Special Investigator and Staff General Blake Algernon was seated in the back row.

Next to him, a member of the City Lord’s Mansion asked, "As the commander of the Seventh Route, doesn’t Xander Cook know that this is forbidden? It’s the biggest taboo for our City Lord and for Swimming City."

These people had long been stationed at the City Lord’s Mansion and were deeply knowledgeable about its internal workings.

Xander Cook, as the Commander of the Seventh Route, had publicly challenged the red line, an act that was completely irrational.

Completely inexplicable.

"Or is it as Xander Cook said, that he was unaware?" another person began to discuss.

"Impossible!" Blake Algernon, sitting in the back with his legs crossed, pondered, "Xander Cook’s obsession with power is nearly insane. In the entire Seventh Route, without his instructions, many things would not be possible."

As a Staff General, he had a deep understanding of the personalities of the heads of the nine factions.

"Either someone’s pulling strings from behind or Xander Cook has gone mad."

Blake Algernon rubbed his temples slightly in resignation and said, "What I fear the most is a death without proof. Even if we’re certain that it was Xander Cook’s doing, we still can’t find any evidence. If that’s the case, even the City Lord would have to swallow this bitter pill."

While the group was chatting, the car suddenly stopped.

"What’s going on!" an aide beside Blake Algernon asked out loud, "Why are we stopping?"

Looking through the side window, they could see that the roads on both sides were very rugged.

These people were not visiting Rat Town for the first time, naturally recognizing the way.

Past this narrow path and eight kilometers ahead lay the gate to Rat Town.

But just by chance, the car stopped right here.

This investigative team consisted of twenty people, with Blake Algernon acting as the team leader.

The twenty people were distributed across five vehicles, with four people in each car.

Their car was located right in the center of the formation.

"Not sure, I’ll ask the lead car." The driver took out the walkie-talkie and said, "Number One, what’s the situation ahead?"

But after waiting for half a minute, there was no response from the walkie-talkie.

"Number One, if you hear me, please respond!"

Boom!

The response he received

was a loud explosion.

Flames shot up in front of them.

A burning sedan flew up into the air and then fell back down.

"Retreat quickly!"

Blake Algernon, born of a military leader, was agile in body and quick in response.

Faced with this sudden situation, he decisively pushed open the car door and leaped out!

However, the driver in the same car, because of being buckled in with a seatbelt, did not manage to unfasten it in time...

Boom!

The wreckage of the lead car, ablaze with flames, crashed down heavily!

The off-road vehicle Blake Algernon had been in was instantly smashed into scrap metal.

Of the rest inside, only one member of the City Lord’s Mansion in the back seat managed to leap out after seeing Blake Algernon escape.

The other two were crushed to death inside.

"Investigator Algernon!"

The people in the remaining three vehicles, upon hearing the explosion, quickly got out of their cars.

Each was holding a weapon, gathering around Blake Algernon.

They were battle-hardened veterans, not too flustered by this sudden emergency.

"Who has the audacity to target us!" an official from the City Lord’s Mansion cursed angrily.

He clenched a box of concealed weapons in his hand, glancing around vigilantly.

"Be careful!"

Blake Algernon took a deep breath to regain his composure.

"Since they dare to target us, it means they know our identities from the City Lord’s Mansion." He lowered his voice to remind everyone, "In Swimming City, those who would attack the City Lord’s Mansion are certainly no good. We’ve already lost several companions, we must be cautious!"

The City Lord’s Mansion represents the highest authority.

Yet the opponent seemed to have no regard for that.

Serving in the City Lord’s Mansion for decades, this was the first time Blake Algernon had encountered such a brazen enemy.

Without needing his reminder, the City Lord’s Mansion personnel already felt a sense of crisis upon seeing the car that was blown away.

This was serious!

"These people truly have a death wish, even targeting our City Lord’s Mansion..."

Swish!

Before the person could finish speaking, an arrow pierced through the air and directly went through his throat.

Thump!

The powerful impact of the arrow sent the man’s corpse flying four or five meters away before it hit the ground.

Swish!

The sound of a hidden weapons box being activated.

The death of their companion instantly stimulated the nervous nerves of the officials from the City Lord’s Mansion.

Without even seeing who it was, they fired their hidden weapons boxes in the direction of their instincts.

This kind of shooting was not only ineffective but also heightened their inner panic.

"Who goes there! We are investigators from the City Lord’s Mansion, by the order of the City Lord..." Blake Algernon hadn’t finished speaking when his eyes squinted into slits!

Whoosh!

Years of life-and-death experience had him instinctively arching backward in an instant!

Thwack!

An arrow feather made of refined steel brushed past his body, piercing through another person behind Blake Algernon, chilling them to the core!

The arrow, after passing through one person, still had enough force to kill another driver too slow to dodge.

"Retreat!"

Blake Algernon steeled his heart and ran towards the last sedan.

The arrow came from the direction of Rat Town.

Behind them, safety!

Seeing Blake Algernon making a move, the drivers in the last row rushed forward!

The driver opened the car door, sat in the driver’s seat, and instantly engaged the reverse gear!

Crack!

But the arrow, as if possessing eyes, passed through the windshield and pierced through the driver’s head.

Blake Algernon, who was still running, suddenly came to a halt.

"Investigators?"

Just then, a voice rose from behind them.

Julius Reed, holding a bow with an arrow pinched between his fingers, emerged from Baron Grey wearing the white hemp clothes representing the Seventh Route, followed by several similarly dressed men from the Ninth Route.

"Take him down!"

An official from the City Lord’s Mansion raised a hidden weapons box, about to fire!

Thwack!

The arrow had already penetrated his head.

Blood splattered all over the ground.

Cold weapons! ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

They actually prevented individuals armed with firearms from even making a call to action.

"Who are you?" Seeing the group in white, Blake Algernon’s expression became as dark as water.

From their attire, they were men from Rat Town.

But if Rat Town truly intended to do evil, did they need to be so brazen?

"Curious why I didn’t change clothes?" Julius Reed seemed to perceive Blake Algernon’s doubts and spoke with a smile: "Because to the dead, it doesn’t matter!"

No sooner had the words left his mouth!

He readied the arrow on his bow!

The drawn bow was as round as the full moon!

"By the oral decree of Commander Cook, I’m here to escort you on your way!"

Whizz!

The arrow darted forth!

Thwack!

As a mist of blood appeared, Blake Algernon’s body was sent flying three meters away.

He did not move again.

"Kill!"

At Julius Reed’s command, those from the Ninth Route raised their mechanized hidden weapons boxes and swept fire across the crowd.

Many officials from the City Lord’s Mansion had not even had the chance to recover before they fell into pools of blood.

Five seconds later.

Carcasses lay all over the ground.

The air was thick with the strong stench of blood.

All the investigators dispatched by the City Lord’s Mansion were buried on the narrow road.

Not one survived.

"Let’s go, let’s drink and be merry tonight!" Julius Reed motioned with his hand, eliciting joyous cheers from his men.

Only when they had gone a kilometer did Nicholas Pendleton speak up: "General Grove, if you’ve killed them all, what’s the point of this whole act?"

"Who said they’re all dead?" Julius Reed replied nonchalantly: "The arrow that hit the leader, it missed his heart by half a centimeter."
