Loser to Legend: Gathering Wives with My Unlimited Money System-Chapter 49: Getting Out of Prison
Chapter 49: Getting Out of Prison
"Hey, hey! What do you think you are doing in my office, huh?" Dominic commented. "Hey kid, calm yourself down and continue in your house. This is not a place to do something like this."
’What’s wrong with him? Why is he suddenly so chatty?’ Xavier wondered.
"Take her collar off," Xavier said to the officer.
The officer unlocked the collar and left the office.
"You two are free to go now. Leave." Dominic gave a dismissive wave.
"How are we supposed to get to the city? Send someone to drop us off."
"Don’t worry, you will find a vehicle at the dock. It will drop you off at the city centre. You will have to manage after that." After saying that, Dominic left the office.
The door shut behind them with a quiet hiss.
The hallway outside the office was quiet. A distant hum buzzed from overhead conduits, running like veins through the cold concrete ceiling. The air smelled like rust and ozone. Xavier stepped out first, the wolf girl close behind. Her collar was gone, but the red mark still circled her neck like a shadow. She didn’t speak. She hadn’t since the officer took it off.
They walked in silence through the facility. Broken screens flickered to life as they passed, glitching blue and red—old security footage, half-corrupted. No guards. No one stopped them.
When they reached the exit, a steel shutter groaned as it lifted. Outside, morning light painted the coastline in burnt orange. The sea stretched out, flat and grey, bleeding into a thick wall of haze far in the distance. Beyond the landing platform, perched on a raised slab of black rock, the aerovan waited.
It hovered a few inches above the surface, humming softly. A faded corporate logo blinked on its side—ORBITAX // PRISON TRANSPORT SYSTEM. The back hatch opened with a soft mechanical clunk as they approached.
Xavier helped the girl climb in first. She still hadn’t said anything. Just watched everything with wide, golden eyes. Her ears flicked at the sounds—wings of gullbots overhead, distant engine rumble, and waves hitting the rocks on the shore.
He stepped in after her, and the hatch sealed shut.
The inside of the van was dim. Blue strip lights lined the floor. No driver. Just a smooth voice from the comm panel:
[DESTINATION: CITY CENTER. PASSENGERS CONFIRMED. FLIGHT TIME: 19 MINUTES.]
There was no turbulence. Just speed.
No one spoke during the ride. She stared out the window with a distant look on her face, while Xavier leaned back and closed his eyes.
The city came into view fast. Towers like knives pierced the fog, neon signs wrapped around their spines. Highways webbed through the sky. Drones zipped past, silent and fast. The aerovan slowed as it neared the drop zone—an open platform in the heart of the city’s lower ring.
It touched down with a soft hiss.
"Come on," Xavier said.
They got out. Heat hit their faces instantly—exhaust smoke, fried circuits, the city’s stink.
The wolf girl covered her nose instantly, while Xavier scanned the street.
Lines of people moved past, some with chromed limbs, others jacked into headsets or trailing floating holo-pets.
’This is my first time here. This place is a bit different, though. It looks a bit... old.
He flagged a taxi—a low-slung, matte-black crawler that hovered a few inches above the cracked pavement. Its underglow pulsed green.
The door slid open.
The cabbie was an old synth model. Face like a melted doll. It didn’t speak—just beeped and waited for the destination.
"Where are we going?" the wolf girl asked curiously as her ears twitched for an answer.
"Get in. I have something to do first. After that, we will go home."
They got in and Xavier inserted Oliver’s house as their drop point.
The cab door was sealed shut and cool air flowed from the vents.
Xavier didn’t look at the wolf girl, but he could feel her eyes on him.
"You hungry?" he asked, staring out the tinted window.
She nodded slowly.
He leaned back. "Okay. Wait for a few minutes. Once I am done, we will go to my place, and then eat. "
The cab stopped in front of Oliver’s house and the doors opened.
However, Xavier had fallen asleep. He hadn’t slept since yesterday.
The wolf girl panicked and glanced around with a worried look on her face.
[Destination arrived!]
The voice came from the car’s stereo.
"Hey..." The wolf girl shook Xavier. "Wake... up."
Xavier woke up with a jolt and glanced around, and then let out a sigh.
"Get out." He said as he got out of the car with the wolf girl. "I am so exhausted."
The taxi fare was $42, so Xavier paid it with the 50 credit points he had.
’I have to perform today’s transaction too. Man... I am so tired. I want to sleep.’
Xavier took his phone out to call Oliver. He stared at his phone with a solemn look on his face, as though he was pondering something.
Then, he put the phone back in his pocket and rang the doorbell instead.
A few seconds later, a robotic voice answered, [Hello, who am I speaking to?]
"I am Xavier. I am Oliver’s friend and I am here to meet him."
[Identity confirmed. Ringing Master Oliver.]
After a few rings, Oliver asked in a sleepy voice. "Hello...? Who dis?"
"Hey, it’s me. Sorry, were you sleeping?"
"Xavier!" Oliver’s voice suddenly sounded energetic, compared to before.
"Yes, I am Xavier. Sorry to disturb you so early in the morning, but I am here to get my bike. And... there is something else I want to talk to you about." Xavier’s voice was calm and gentle, just like it was before.
"Just a second. I can unlock the gate from here, but I am afraid my father will notice. So I will come to you myself."
The connection cut off.
About three minutes later, the gate opened and Oliver stepped out. But for some reason, his face was sad and upset, his chubby cheeks puffing slightly.
"What’s wrong?" Xavier asked with a confused look on his face.
"Umm..." Oliver glanced inside from the gap of the open gate. A second later, Cassian Voss appeared. "My father wants to talk to you."
"...!"
Oliver had utterly and miserably failed on his way.
