Love Affairs in Melbourne-Chapter 52 - 50 - s on the Future
Chapter 52: 50 Chapters on the Future
"Ha ha, you were right, Qi Yi really did drag me to the library as soon as we got to Melbourne." Yan Yan laughed happily as she remembered how back in high school, her mom would occasionally tell her not to study too hard, there was no need to spend every weekend at the library.
"What were you thinking?" That was what her mom really cared about now.
"I think maybe I could give it another try." Yan Yan replied.
"One in the United States, one in Australia, how are you going to try?" Lu Bingran didn’t quite understand her daughter’s thoughts.
Lu Bingran knew her daughter was a sensible person in matters of the heart, otherwise, she wouldn’t have insisted on breaking up with Qi Yi during high school.
"I’m still discussing that issue. I can’t really explain it right now." Yan Yan answered.
Mom hadn’t realized yet that the word "sensible" had disappeared from Yan Yan’s mind for several days now.
What remained in Yan Yan’s mind now was a mess and an unformed idea about the future.
"Then you think about it carefully, you’re at the age to start handing out sweets anyway.
If it was your class monitor, at least you know him well.
Really, it’s embarrassing. If you knew this would happen, why did you act like life and death depended on breaking up with him back then?" Mom looked at Yan Yan with disdain.
"When did I ever act like life and death depended on it?" Yan Yan did not want to accept the label her mom had just slapped on her.
"You should know the answer to that question better than I do, after all, you were the one always hiding under the covers crying." Lu Bingran’s face bore an expression that was so serious it was almost funny.
"Mom, are you ever going to let it go? I told you, I accidentally spilled water on the pillow that time. If I could cry enough to wring a pillow out, wouldn’t that tear my heart to pieces?" Yan Yan looked gloomily at her mom, who always teased her about that incident.
While Yan Yan was still gloomy, Mom had never even mentioned the "Tears on My Pillow" incident.
Later, when Yan Yan was living and studying well in Australia, Mom would occasionally tease Yan Yan about it.
Yan Yan said she had accidentally spilled the water, but Mom said, "Why did it coincide with that specific time and happen several times?"
"Do you two want me to step out until you finish talking, and then I come back?" Yan Dabang, who had been left out by the mother and daughter, expressed his discontent.
"We’re done, Dad, you control your wife, she bullies me every time she sees me. It’s not right." Yan Yan quickly escaped from between her parents and ran to Yan Dabang’s side.
"I wouldn’t dare control your mom. If you two don’t gang up on me, I’m already grateful." Yan Dabang’s tone was somewhat exaggerated.
"Dad, I’m telling you, I haven’t dared to go to any attractions near Melbourne, waiting to go with you guys.
Where else could you find such a well-behaved daughter?
How could you think that I would bully you? That’s just not right!" Yan Yan tried to soothe Yan Dabang who felt neglected as soon as he arrived in Melbourne.
"Are you sure you didn’t dare to go, or you just didn’t want to?" Yan Dabang looked satisfied as he watched Yan Yan hold his arm and deliberately drag her feet while walking forward.
.........
Yan Yan came to the airport to pick people up, and Baobao was driving.
"Dad, our Baobao looks handsome, doesn’t he?" Yan Yan asked Yan Dabang after helping her parents into the car.
"Yes, he looks a bit better than that young lad, Qi Yi." Yan Dabang hadn’t figured out Baobao’s gender at first glance.
"Dad, how could you casually bring up another guy’s name in front of our Baobao?" Yan Yan looked quite distressed.
"So this is Baobao, I’ve heard about him from Yan Yan all the time, definitely handsome. Thank you for picking us up." Lu Bingran greeted Baobao warmly.
"Auntie, no need to mention it, with Yan Yan’s driving skills, I couldn’t rest easy about the safety of everyone in Melbourne if she drove herself." Baobao responded to Lu Bingran’s words.
Baobao and Yan Yan’s mom had never met, but they had spoken a lot on the phone.
When Yan Yan mentioned she was moving to a friend’s house, Lu Bingran had meticulously inquired about the specifics of Yan Yan’s "roommates" and even asked for Baobao’s landline in Melbourne.
As a mother, she could overlook other things, but she needed to understand clearly who her daughter would be living with.
Since there were no boys in Baobao’s family and both Baobao and Yan Yan were students from Xiamen University, Lu Bingran had no objections to Yan Yan moving in with Baobao’s family.
After moving in, Yan Yan had mentioned some aspects of Baobao to her mom, but clearly, her mom didn’t convey to her dad that "Baobao is a very, very handsome girl."
As a result, as soon as Yan Dabang got in the car, he immediately categorized Qi Yi and Baobao as the same type.
Fortunately, after hearing Baobao speak, Yan Dabang quickly realized the mistake.
"Dad, Qi Yi is my boyfriend, not that kid," Yan Yan corrected her dad once she saw that he no longer thought Baobao was a boy.
"People aren’t even here, do you need to defend him that much?" Baobao expressed her incredulity to Yan Yan.
"He’s not here, so I have to protect him. If he were here, you are welcome to roast him all you want," Yan Yan replied to Baobao’s teasing with a laugh.
"Your protection is useless, haven’t you heard that a good horse doesn’t eat grass it has passed?" Yan Dabang joined in teasing Yan Yan.
As a father, he didn’t want to see his daughter fall into the same pit twice.
"I know, but I’m not a horse," Yan Yan looked innocently at her dad.
"Uncle Yan, I heard from Yan Yan that you’re planning to buy a house in Melbourne during this trip," Baobao asked Yan Yan’s dad.
"We do have that idea. If we plan to settle in Melbourne with Yan Yan in the future, buying a house is definitely necessary. Yan Yan mentioned her roommate knows a lot of good real estate agents, so we didn’t start looking for agents in our country," Yan Dabang answered Baobao.
Buying a house was another important purpose of Yan Dabang and his wife’s visit to Melbourne.

Answer=>
Being a Data Analyst is the starting point of my future career planning.
Even if the new employees at investment banks are to work in investments eventually, they wouldn’t start as Investment Managers, but likely begin as assistants to an Investment Manager.
For investment banks and funds, a good Investment Manager needs top-tier research support, primary channel resources, brand endorsement, capital interconnection, and operational maintenance.
Financial Data Analysts play a relatively vital role in investment banks.
However, conversely, only a good investment bank can provide researchers with good, analyzable data.
I plan to spend two years in one of the top global investment banks, working well as a Researcher and building my research system.
Eventually, it’s very likely that while being a Data Analyst, I might also serve as an Investment Manager.
Of course, when I was making these plans, I didn’t anticipate you rejoining my life.
Now, my plans for the future surely can’t only be career-oriented.
This time, I’m telling you my thoughts directly.
The part about us, let’s talk and see where our seemingly inconsistent life trajectories can synchronize, okay?
Question=>
You won’t make "for your own good" decisions for me anymore, right? About where I should work in the future, what I should do, you’ll discuss them with me slowly, right?
