Lunar Legacy: Rise Of The Beastlord-Chapter 75: Frozen Heart
Chapter 75: Frozen Heart
Jayden knelt in the snow like a fallen war god.
Arms frozen.
Legs frozen.
One eye destroyed.
The Hybrid Lupine form collapsed, his fur receding, his claws dulling, muscles shrinking with a sickening wet crack as the strain overtook him.
He was human again.. barely.
Chest heaving. Mouth open. Blood freezing on his lips.
He was too exhausted to yell. Too broken to move. Even his telekinesis couldn’t function because his mind couldn’t hold focus.
This was it.
The end of the battle.
The end of him.
The Winter Wolf stood before him.
A queen, victorious.
She towered over him, paws silent in the snow.
Jayden looked up. "Come on, what are you waiting for?" he whispered.
But the Winter wolf didn’t do anything. She didn’t move. She didn’t strike.
She could end Jayden right there on the spot with just a single claw swipe to the head... but she didn’t.
She just stared.
Not with pity.
Not with rage.
But with contemplation. She was pondering what to do with him. Taking her time to deliver judgement.
Jayden just remained on a spot... because that was all he could do. He knew at the point that he had messed up again.
He hadn’t planned well for his fight with the Winter wolf. He just went in blindly with a air of confidence. He felt that the Hybrid lupine form would make him invincible. But he was wrong.
And that cost him everything.
He underestimated the Winter Wolf’s abilities. Thinking he could overwhelm her just as easily as he did the C-Rank Wolverine Stalker.
But now he understood that she was something entirely different. And even with his Telekinesis and boosted strength, he was still no match for her. She was too powerful.
The Winter wolf stepped forward, her eyes glinting not with excitement, but indifference. She didn’t expect the fight to end so soon. And she didn’t want to believe it had either.
She approached Jayden and placed one giant, clawed paw against his chest.
At first, Jayden didn’t feel anything. He was wondering what she was aiming to do.
But then.. he felt it. A literal chill crawling up not just his spine, but his entire body.
He felt... cold. But not just any cold.
This was interior. Deep. Dreadful.
His insides began to lock up, and he felt a cold, dead feeling suddenly erupt in his chest.
His eyes bulged in realization of what was happening.
His heart.
She was freezing his heart.
The beating inside his chest slowed. First calmly. Then sluggish. Then painfully slow.
He gasped. "No—"
His limbs trembled. His jaw clicked.
His heart was freezing.
Not metaphorically.
Literally.
It felt like needles and knives sinking into his arteries. Like a glacier blooming inside his lungs.
His blood was thickening.
His lungs started to wheeze.
His vision blurred. The edges turned blue.
And all he could do was whisper—
"No... No... don’t."
[Jayden!] Luna’s voice rang out. But to him, it felt like a whisper. His mind was already giving in to the cold abyss of nothingness.
[You have to fight back!] Luna cried. [She’s not killing you. She’s putting you in some kind of cryo-sleep]
Jayden’s vision was fading, his senses were dulling. But he managed to hear what Luna had said. frёewebηovel.cѳm
"Cryo-sleep? But why?" he thought. "Why not just kill me now?"
It didn’t make any sense, why would she choose to put Jayden to sleep rather than kill him?
Jayden shifted his gaze down to his body.. his arms had turned blue, and his veins were barely visible. Frozen.
Blood wasn’t reaching his brain anymore and his neck started to turn blue as well, locking the muscles and stiffing the nerves.
He was practically turning into a statue.. or rather, an ice sculpture.
[Jayden, listen to me] Luna’s voice echoed again, this time in panic. [If your body freezes up completely, you’ll remain so forever. No one except for the Winter wolf would be able to unfreeze you]
[It’s like a curse.. that only she can lift] Luna added. [You have to fight it, or else you’ll–]
Luna suddenly went silent, like as though she had been shut down.
"Luna..." Jayden called out, but all he got silence.
A cold, sullen silence.
Luna was gone.
She had somehow been affected by the ice age happens in Jayden’s body. And that meant the system was probably offline too.
The Winter wolf took her paw off Jayden’s chest, but his heart continued freezing. She watched as his face slowly turned blue and his eyes closed shut.
But she didn’t howl in victory, instead she frowned.
She was expecting Jayden to atleast put up more of a fight. It made her dissapointed.
Meanwhile, Jayden was still conscious.. but barely. His mind was racing with the possibilities that he could never wake up again.
He sighed and whispered to himself. "Am i going to just watch as my body gets petrified like some kind of statue? Am i going to just give up?"
"It’s not like there’s anything I can even do now." he chuckled darkly. "I have no tricks left. None except... No! I can’t. Not again."
"But... if I don’t, i might never see Jessica again. I might never see Tasha or Jake or Harleen... or Jasmine. I might never see my sister again."
"Dammit!" he yelled in his mind. "I don’t have much of a choice, i have to stay awake. To protect my family and find my sister. I can’t lose here. I won’t lose here."
Jayden gritted his teeth and sighed in his cold, freezing heart. "But i don’t even know how... Last time, the full moon forced it. I don’t think I can do it without the full moon... or can I?"
"Screw it! I have to try. Miss Kate said i can.. that it’s something we can do." he muttered. "Which means, i can definitely do it. I just need the right trigger."
Jayden remained still for a long while, his entire body blue and frozen. All except for his jaw, nose, and eyes.
He was contemplating on using the only thing he could use to get out of the situation. His ultimate trump card.
But he needed to activate it.
And he was running out of time... his heart was almost completely frozen.
He thought about things that could get him furious. Things that could agitate him and increase his heart rate.
The EVA. The Government. That night on the island.
But nothing worked. He couldn’t get angry.
Then he let out a long sigh and remembered something that Luna had once told him about pain.
"Hm, i wonder if pain not only gives me focus... but also triggers me?" he thought
"Well, you’ve given me no choice Luna. I have to try it. But... this is gonna hurt like hell."
And then, without hesitation. Jayden moved the one part of his body that was still movable.
His jaw.
He opened his mouth, brought out his tongue... and slammed his teeth into it. Biting off his own tongue.
Blood gushed out in the process and the Winter wolf furrowed her brows in surprise.
But Jayden wasn’t wincing or screaming in pain. No. He was laughing.
"Hahaha! I can’t believe it... it actually worked." he voiced out, which was shocking because he’d already bit his tongue. He shouldn’t be able to speak properly.
But he did. And surprisingly, the tongue was already healed.
And so was his left eye.
The Winter wolf took a step back in wary. She was stunned to the core. She didn’t think Jayden would actually recover from that injury. She didn’t think he’d recover from any injury at all.
But somewhere deep down, she was excited.
Jayden stopped laughing, his eyes still closed. His body still frozen.
"Sorry to ruin your plans, but I can’t go to sleep just yet." he said calmly, his tone soft and playful. "I have a date with someone in a few days... and I’ll really love to attend it."
Jayden’s face contorted into a wide grin, revealing his perfect set of fangs that were elongating by the second.
Then his eyes slowly opened, revealing a glowing pair of pupils, shining brightly like twin suns.
"So... how about a rematch?"
