Ethan continued forward, walking nonchalantly among the rubbles of the ruined houses; this was probably a village some time ago until it was run down by beasts, and the villagers had to abandon it.

Ethan walked till he was almost out of the village when he heard a sound and quickly turned sideways in the direction of the sound and saw a scorpion.

A massive black scorpion, easily the size of a horse, emerged from behind one of the broken houses.

Ethan had never fought a scorpion before, but it was just a scorpion, nothing else.

Its exoskeleton glistened under the sunlight, pincers snapping with a sharp metallic clink. The creature’s eyes locked onto him, and it began to charge, legs skittering rapidly over the dirt.

Ethan wasted no time in bringing his sword out from his storage ring as he held it tightly waiting for the scorpion.

Before he could react, a second scorpion scuttled out from behind the first, its stinger poised high, glistening with venom.

"Two of them, huh?" Ethan muttered, planting his feet. "Alright then."

The first scorpion lunged, its pincer snapping toward his leg. Ethan twisted his body and sidestepped, the claw slicing through the air just inches from his boot.

He retaliated instantly, drawing his blade in a smooth arc and slashing across the creature’s side. Sparks danced as steel scraped against the hard shell, leaving only a shallow scratch.

"Great... Tough armor, I have to hit harder"

The second scorpion joined in, scuttling around to flank him.

Ethan jumped back, creating space. He raised his left hand, murmuring under his breath.

[Wind Cutter]

A sharp blade of air shot from his palm, whistling toward the second scorpion. The spell struck its face, forcing the creature to recoil, but it didn’t deal much damage.

The first scorpion lunged again, this time aiming its stinger at Ethan’s chest.

He raised his sword just in time, the stinger glancing off the blade with a harsh clang. The impact forced him back a step, and he did just that as he cracked his neck.

(Is it me or are you weaker?)

’Oh shut up and let me focus’

Ethan shifted his stance, bringing his blade low and steady.

He lunged forward with speed, his sword a blur as he targeted the scorpion’s joint between its pincer and body. The blade bit deeper this time, dark fluid seeping from the wound.

The creature screeched, stumbling back.

The second scorpion wasn’t idle. It came from the side, swinging a pincer wide. Ethan ducked low, the attack grazing just above his head and he had a smile on his face as he saw a good opening.

He countered with a clean upward slash, slicing into one of its legs, severing it completely causing more black blood to spill.

The beast screeched, but its stinger lashed out blindly, forcing Ethan to backpedal creating space.

"Enough of this"

Ethan leaped back, and soon lightning crackled along his hands, and then he fired.

"Lightning Bolt"

The air trembled as he fired, releasing a crackling bolt from his hand that struck the injured scorpion directly in the face.

The lightning arced across its body, leaving scorch marks and forcing the creature into violent spasms.

The first scorpion, unconcerned, charged again, pincers wide.

Ethan spun, avoiding the attack while slashing downward in a sweeping arc. His blade sliced through one pincer entirely, the severed limb hitting the dirt with a heavy thud.

The scorpion shrieked, writhing in pain.

Seizing the opening, Ethan pressed his palm toward the second scorpion, still recovering from the lightning strike.

"Fireball."

A swirling orb of flame ignited in his hand, flaring with heat before he hurled it forward.

The fireball struck the scorpion square in the body, the explosion echoing through the ruins.

Flames clung to the scorpion’s tough exoskeleton, hissing and crackling as it tried to shake them off.

The first scorpion, despite its injuries, lunged again.

Ethan sidestepped, sword low, then drove the blade straight into the creature’s head with a loud crack. The point pierced through the armor this time, sinking deep into the skull. The scorpion gave one final twitch before collapsing to the ground, lifeless.

Panting slightly, Ethan turned to face the burning scorpion. It was still moving, but its movements had slowed, weakened by the flames and injuries.

He raised his blade one last time and began infusing Mana into his sword, Ethan kept infusing Mana until it was too much.

His sword, which was already extremely powerful, got a boost from his Mana, and Ethan launched.

He dashed forward, slicing clean through the burning scorpion’s body with a single diagonal strike. Its body split apart, flames consuming it as it collapsed onto the ground

Ethan exhaled, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

"Not bad," he muttered, returning his sword to his storage ring.

The message appeared in front of Ethan as he stared at it.

’Just 20, but they’re king-tier beasts’

(Maybe they are weaker than normal king-tier beasts, and I’m telling you, you are getting weaker)

’How the hell am I getting weaker, I just defeated both of them, it’s not like I got injured or anything’

(Still, I think...)

’Trouble...more scorpions, I think; how the hell are so many king-tier beasts in one place?’ Ethan muttered as he moved forward.

With his sensory ability, he could sense them before they saw him. Ethan arrived where the beasts were gathered, and the scorpions were ten in number, but these were smaller in size compared to the two he had just fought.

"Probably advanced tier." Ethan placed his hands on the ground, and soon Varek was in front of him.

"Let’s kill some beasts" Ethan spoke as the two of them came out from behind the broken house Ethan was and the scorpions charged towards them.

[Chain lightning]

Ethan cast the spell since the scorpions were bunched up together.
