Chapter 293: Chapter 294 Royal Guards

The blond-haired guard stepped away with a grin on her face and turned towards Ethan, who had a smile on his face, and he clapped his hands as he walked towards them.

There were ten guards in total and Ethan finally stood among them.

"Can I spar with you?" Ethan asked.

"Sure"

More than five of the guards answered all at once, his conquest the other night must have spread like wildfire through the palace.

"Can you use a sword or should we bring wooden swords?" The black-haired guard asked as she stepped forward; it seemed she was the one who wanted to take Ethan on.

"I can use a sword, though I’m sure I’m not as good as you," Ethan replied.

The rest of them moved backward as they handed Ethan a sword; it was far lighter than his normal sword; it felt like paper in his hands.

’Why the hell is this sword so light?’

(You’re used to your sword since it’s getting the only one you use, these swords are lighter than yours, so try to take it easy with her)

The black-haired guard smiled confidently as she faced Ethan.

"Go ahead and attack," she said calmly.

Ethan adjusted his grip on the sword, still surprised by how light it felt compared to his usual weapon. Taking a deep breath, he moved forward cautiously.

When he got close, he swung the sword overhead. The guard easily dodged his attack, stepping to the side with ease.

She could have countered immediately, but she chose not to since this was a sloppy attack; she knew Ethan was a mage and most likely hadn’t touched a sword in his life, and his first attack confirmed it.

Ethan wasn’t even trying, he was still getting used to the unfamiliar weapon. He also wanted to avoid hurting her since they were using real swords.

With his agility, he could just close the short distance in an instant, and even though she would be able to react, he could still catch her off guard and end the match, but what fun would that be?

The guard smirked. "Is that all you’ve got?"

Ethan stepped back, tightening his stance and preparing for another attempt.

"I’m getting the hang of this," he replied, his voice steady as he hid his smirk.

This time, he feinted a high strike and shifted to a quick slash toward her side. The guard blocked it smoothly, their swords clashing with a metallic ring.

"Better," she said, her grin widening as she stepped back, inviting him to continue.

Ethan couldn’t help but smile. If she knew what he was capable of she would be on guard.

Ethan pressed forward. He swung for her shoulder, but his attack was too slow, and the guard easily sidestepped again.

It seems like you’re hesitating," she said, her tone almost teasing.

"This is a real sword, so I have to be careful," Ethan replied.

"You don’t need to be" she replied.

Ethan tried a quick jab at her midsection, but his footing was off. The guard parried his strike effortlessly, causing him to stumble slightly.

"Your balance is shaky," she added, stepping back to give him room, "You hold your sword like this and take a stance," she spoke, demonstrating it to Ethan.

Ethan adjusted his stance; for him, this was just training, but he was definitely going to wipe the grin off her face.

He went for another swing, this time aiming low, but his grip on the sword was too loose. The blade wobbled in his hand, and the guard easily blocked it.

"You’re gripping it wrong," she pointed out, her voice still calm. "Tighten your hold, or you’ll lose your weapon."

Ethan nodded and adjusted his grip, he acted like a total noob so she would correct him.

He charged again, attempting a diagonal slash, but his movements were too predictable. The guard dodged, then lightly tapped his side with the flat of her blade.

"Got you, I had many chances to attack; this was just one of them," she said with a grin.

"Let’s go again; I think I got it," Ethan said with a smile.

(You really don’t have to showcase your strength, you should be thinking of banging them)

’Who told you I wouldn’t, just not today, I’ll start with the blond girl, she’s the youngest of them and cutest’

(She isn’t as pretty as the one in front of you)

’I know, I just said she’s cute, and I’m going to wipe the grin off the face of this one first’

"This time, I won’t go easy on you; first to three touches wins," She spoke.

"Alright, I’ll try my best" Ethan replied as he gripped his sword tightly and focused on her.

The guard in front of him noticed the change, but she knew Ethan wasn’t skilled, so she thought nothing of it.

"Ready, go," She spoke, and Ethan dashed towards her. He wasn’t running at full speed, and he was already in front of her in an instant, though he didn’t swing his sword.

Immediately, the guard jumped backward and swung her sword forward, but she cut the air.

"Ohh, I forgot to swing my sword," Ethan spoke as he grabbed his sword again.

The grin on the guard’s face was totally gone as she had a surprised look on her face. She was fast enough to counter his speed, but it was unexpected.

"I didn’t know you were that fast, did you use Mana to boost your speed"

"No, that was just my normal speed"
