Madam, Please Behave-Chapter 5: Dorm Room Conversation
Li Qing wasn’t even sure how she had managed to return to her dorm room.
Pushing open the door, she slipped inside with her head hung low and dove straight into her lower bunk.
Wang Xi, watching her from across the room, looked a little puzzled.
“Weren’t you going out to buy books? Why are you back so soon?”
As Li Qing’s roommate and close friend, Wang Xi shared a good rapport with her.
In most girls’ dormitories, groups tend to form—those who are close become practically inseparable, while others engage in constant scheming and snarky remarks.
Fortunately, Li Qing’s six-person dorm was free of such dramas. The roommates got along well, with no sign of cliques or backstabbing.
Because they had no afternoon classes after the morning sessions, the other four roommates had decided to go shopping together. Li Qing had declined to join them, citing her plans to buy books, while Wang Xi had opted out simply because she felt lazy.
To her, the ultimate joy was stocking up on snacks, grabbing a big bottle of soda, curling up in her chair, and watching anime on her computer.
What’s more fun—watching anime or playing games?
Shopping?
Hah, what nonsense!
Hearing Wang Xi’s question, Li Qing pulled a thin blanket over her head, leaving her legs dangling off the side of the bed, nervously tapping against each other.
She felt like she was going to die of embarrassment.
I actually ran away!
Will he think I’m weird?
Of course he will! Who hides behind a book and then bolts out of the store?
Lost in thought, she froze for a moment. Then, suddenly letting out a loud “Ah!” she threw off her blanket and turned her gaze to the book she had tossed onto the desk when she entered.
“Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!”
“Can you calm down and speak properly? What’s going on?”
Startled by Li Qing springing out of bed and pointing a trembling finger at the desk, Wang Xi was thoroughly confused.
Reaching over, she picked up the book and glanced at its cover.
"Pregnancy Precautions"
“You’re pregnant?!”
Wang Xi’s eyes widened in disbelief, a mix of shock and incredulity flashing across her face.
“I didn’t pay for it!”
“Why would you care about paying if you’re pregnant? Wait, what money? Forget that—answer me first. Are you pregnant?”
Leaping from her seat, Wang Xi crouched in front of Li Qing, pressing her ear to Li Qing’s stomach.
“Gurgle… gurgle…”
The faint sounds coming from her stomach made Wang Xi’s expression comically exaggerated.
“I… I think I heard the baby move!”
Standing up, she grabbed Li Qing by the shoulders with both hands.
“Who’s the father?!”
Li Qing’s face turned an even deeper shade of red.
She hadn’t eaten anything all morning. Her plan was to buy books first and then grab lunch, but after what had happened at the bookstore, she had skipped lunch entirely. Her empty stomach was naturally making noises.
“It’s not that!”
Pushing Wang Xi away, she stammered, “I mean… I didn’t pay for the book. And no, I’m not pregnant!”
“You’re not pregnant?”
Wang Xi stared at her face, trying to find any hint of deceit, her eyes unblinking as they bore into Li Qing’s.
“Are you trying to fool me?”
“I-I told you, I’m not!”
Li Qing felt like her face was on fire.
She bounced up and down a few times, trying to prove she wasn’t pregnant, only for Wang Xi to stop her and firmly pull her down to sit on the edge of the bed.
“What if you disturb the baby? Sit still,” Wang Xi said, looking completely serious.
“Does your uncle know?”
“Stop joking around! I’m really not pregnant!”
Li Qing slapped her stomach hard, the sound echoing through the dorm room as Wang Xi winced sympathetically.
Thinking carefully, Wang Xi realized Li Qing didn’t seem like the type to get pregnant.
Although Li Qing was quiet and delicate, with a naturally pretty face that didn’t require makeup, she tended to dress loosely. However, during their trips to the communal bathhouse, Wang Xi had discovered Li Qing’s hidden assets.
Her future children definitely wouldn’t have to worry about food.
“Why’d you even grab this book?” Wang Xi asked, looking at Li Qing with confusion. “And why didn’t you pay for it?”
“I-I-I…”
“Stop stammering. Just explain.”
Lowering her head until it was almost buried in her chest, Li Qing muttered softly, “I saw him…”
“Him?”
About to ask for clarification, Wang Xi suddenly remembered something Li Qing had mentioned before.
“The uncle who saved you?”
“Mm…”
Her voice was as faint as a mosquito’s buzz, and her flushed face hadn’t cooled down.

“Wow! What a small world!” Wang Xi exclaimed, clearly intrigued. “Where’d you see him? At the bookstore?”
“No…”
“Was it on the way out? Or maybe on the street?”
“N-no…”
Her voice grew even softer, and Li Qing hesitated before finally whispering, “He’s the store clerk…”
“Uh…”
Wang Xi was momentarily speechless.
She remembered Li Qing’s story—something straight out of a novel. But hadn’t Li Qing said the man was in his thirties?
“So… a guy in his thirties. His salary probably just barely supports himself, huh?”
“This isn’t about money!” Li Qing retorted, her eyes lighting up with admiration.
“He’s one of those rare types. Back when I was at my lowest, he saved me. He spoke so calmly, even though he smelled faintly of alcohol…”
“Okay, stop. The more you talk, the more he sounds like a scruffy, unkempt uncle.” Wang Xi rolled her eyes before returning to her chair. She propped her feet up and hugged her knees.
“So, you saw him, and knowing your personality, you definitely didn’t greet him. Instead, you acted like an idiot, got noticed, and then ran off with the book without paying. Am I right?”
Seeing Li Qing nod, Wang Xi sighed, a look of exasperation crossing her face.
Poking Li Qing’s forehead, she said, “Honestly, use your brain. He probably thinks you were stealing the book!”
“Oh no, you’re right!”
Panic set in as Li Qing grabbed Wang Xi’s wrist. “What do I do? What do I do?”
“Don’t panic. It’s actually pretty simple.” Wang Xi smiled. “Either return the book or go back and pay for it.”
“I can’t…”
“Then just hide it and pray you never run into him again.”
“I can’t do that!”
Spreading her hands, Wang Xi replied, “Well, then, I’ve got nothing.”
“Ugh…”
After a moment of intense internal struggle, Li Qing made up her mind and grabbed Wang Xi’s arm.
“Come with me!”
“I’m not going.”
Pushing Li Qing’s hand away, Wang Xi spun her chair to face her computer.
“I’m reading a novel. I don’t want to go out.”
“A novel?”
“Yep! The author of Battle Through the Heavens writes so well! I’ve already read over thirty chapters today!”
Waving her hand dismissively, Wang Xi lowered her voice dramatically.
“Thirty years of east rivers, thirty years of west rivers. Never underestimate a poor youth!”
She clenched her fist and punched the air.
“So epic! So inspiring!”
Li Qing stared at Wang Xi, feeling that her friend’s behavior seemed a little… off.
Wang Xi finished the chapter she was on and scrolled down, only to realize it was the last one available.
“What? It’s over already?!”
She let out a wail and opened the comments section to type furiously:
“Just when it was getting good—author, write faster!”
Ignoring Wang Xi, Li Qing thought for a moment before deciding to pay for the book.
Clenching her fists and steeling her resolve, she picked up the book from her desk, opened the dormitory door, and stepped outside.
