Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife-Chapter 1391: Sudden Visit
The mayor's wife personally delivered the money to Bajie before finally breathing a sigh of relief. What she didn't know was that the amount collected exceeded the grain price.
Pan Chiyan planned to give 43,000 yuan to his cousin to thank him for his help.
Since the money had come from others, the higher-ups wouldn't ask about the details, and the mayor would never report the amount to the capital, so no one would ever know about the difference in price.
With just a few words, he had earned a large sum for his cousin. Such was the power of a politician.
Meanwhile, Houzi had already returned to Xie Village and was currently resting at his uncle's house. Due to her health, Su Lanying didn't join the autumn planting and was tasked with preparing lunch and resting at home.
Sitting on the balcony, Houzi looked at his cousin's pale complexion and asked, "Lanying, have you gone to the hospital for a check-up?"
Su Lanying shook her head and said, "Brother, you know my condition has always been like this since I was born. After drinking the medicine from Doctor Xie, I feel better. So there is no need to spend money to visit the hospital."
Hearing this, Houzi sighed and said, "Your brother has money now, so you don't have to worry about that. The only thing you need to do is listen to the doctor and get treatment."
Su Lanying scooped a spoonful of mung bean soup and ate it slowly before saying, "Brother, I know you mean well, but I know my body. It's already a miracle I have lived this long. I'm content."
Seeing how unmotivated his cousin was, Houzi felt frustrated and sad.
In their Su family, she was the only daughter left. Due to their background, most of their relatives had cut ties and changed their names and identities, leaving only his uncle's family and himself to carry on the Su family bloodline.
While the two of them were lost in thought, they heard a knock at the gate and a man's voice calling out.
"Hello, anyone at home?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Su Lanying was taken aback. She set the bowl down and said, "Brother, I will go open the door."
Before she could get up, Houzi stopped her and said, "You stay here. Brother will go check who it is."
Opening the gate, Houzi looked at the man standing outside and asked in surprise, "Doctor Song, what brings you here?"
Song Yan was equally surprised to see Houzi and asked, "Comrade Zhao, what are you doing here?"
The two of them looked at each other for a moment before Houzi said, "This is my uncle's house."
When Song Yan heard this, he asked again, "Comrade Zhao, are you Lanying's cousin?"
Houzi nodded and asked again, "Doctor Song, what brings you here?"
It took Song Yan a moment to reply. He scratched his cheek and said, "Ah, I came to do a check-up on your cousin."
Hearing this, Houzi raised his eyebrows and said, "Please come in."
After locking the door, Houzi led him into the house and asked, "Doctor Song, I heard from my cousin that she didn't go to the hospital. So how did you know about her condition?"
"Lanying is my teacher's patient, and I met her during one of her visits to his house. Since I was the one who did the check-up, she could be considered my patient too. It's a doctor's responsibility to take care of his patient," Song Yan explained.
His explanation sounded a bit far-fetched, but Houzi said nothing.
When they reached the balcony, Song Yan's eyes lit up the moment he saw Su Lanying. Seeing her pale face, he frowned and asked, "Lanying, do you feel unwell anywhere?"
"Hello, Doctor Song," Su Lanying greeted him and poured him a cup of water.
She handed it to him and asked, "Doctor Song, what are you doing here?"
Song Yan drank the water and said, "Didn't I tell you I would treat you? I came to check on your condition and to let you know that I have gotten donation approval from the government for your treatment expenses."
"I also invited a doctor from the capital and another doctor from abroad to perform the surgery. From now on, you just need to focus on your health and leave the rest to me."
After he finished speaking, Houzi was surprised and asked, "Doctor Song, my sister's illness is congenital. Can she really be cured?"
Song Yan nodded and replied with a smile, "There is a high chance she can be fully cured, but we still need to run some tests to get detailed information about her condition. That's why I came to speak with her parents—so she can go to the hospital and get examined."
"From her symptoms and medical record, she might need coronary bypass surgery. The doctors I have contacted have performed many successful coronary bypass surgeries and are very experienced. With them operating personally, we can be reassured."
"It's just that it may take a few months before the doctor from abroad can come," he added with a sigh.
After he said this, he glanced over and saw Su Lanying staring at him in a daze. Finding her silly expression endearing, he chuckled and asked softly, "Lanying, what are you thinking?"
Snapping back to reality, Su Lanying lowered her gaze and shook her head. She had always believed she wouldn't live past twenty. So when he told her he would cure her, she didn't take it seriously.
But without her knowing, he had done so much for her. She knew how difficult it must have been to get donation approval, let alone invite two renowned doctors. She had no idea what price he had paid to make it happen but she was sure that the price was not small at all.
Thinking about his suggestion back then, her heart beat faster, and her eyes and nose stung.
