Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife-Chapter 1434: I’m A Bad Person
With reddened eyes, Song Yan bent his waist, looked into Su Lanying's eyes, and said, "Lanying, I know you don't like me right now, but I promise you will like me in the future. I will treat you well, I will do everything to make you like me. So, don't push me away. Give me a chance, okay?"
When they heard his words, they were stunned. Mother Song couldn't believe that her proud son would one day lower his head and act so humbly in front of a village girl.
Seeing how her son was pleading with a village girl, she couldn't hold it back anymore and asked angrily, "Song Yan, what do you think you are doing?!"
Hearing his mother's words, Song Yan turned and said through gritted teeth, "Mother, didn't I tell you not to interfere in my matters? What are you doing here?"
"Can't I come to see what kind of girl seduced you?" Mother Song asked him back.
"Mother, I like Lanying, and it's me who pursued her. It has nothing to do with her. Please watch your words and show respect to her!" Song Yan said angrily.
Mother Song was shocked by how protective her son was of the girl and felt hurt. She clenched her handkerchief tightly and said, pointing at him, "Y-you, you actually raise your voice at your mother because of her. Are you forgetting that I'm your mother?"
Song Yan took a deep breath to calm down and said, "If you are my mother, then please respect my feelings and decision. I'm already an adult. I'm no longer the little boy who could be controlled by you."
"Mother, this is my life. The one who will spend the rest of my life with me is my wife, not you. So please stop interfering in my life and my marriage."
"Son, why can't you understand your mother? I did everything for your own good!" Mother Song said.
Shaking his head, Song Yan said, "Mother, you did everything for yourself. You are used to controlling everything. When I'm no longer under your control, you say that I'm unfilial."
"You say that my father and I are abandoning you and that we don't love you. But Mother, have you ever thought about why we can't live under the same roof with you anymore? Why does our family end up like this?" he asked.
Mother Song was stunned by his words and couldn't find a word to refute him. She knew that she was ill and had sought treatment all these years. But no matter how much medicine she took or how many treatments she tried, she couldn't get better at all.
After her husband chose to live separately from her, she always lived in fear of being abandoned by everyone. She could only face that fear alone and put up a strong front.
She thought no one saw her weakness—but today, she finally understood that her son knew everything.
When she met her son's gaze, her heart sank and a chill ran down her spine. Opening her trembling lips, she said, "Son, I—"
Understanding his mother's condition, Song Yan knew he couldn't push her too hard. So, he closed his eyes for a moment and said, "Mother, please go to town and find an inn first. I will visit you in a few days."
Mother Song wanted to reject his suggestion, but when she saw how pale her son's face was, she closed her mouth and left—though not without giving Su Lanying one last glare.
During the argument between mother and son, Su Lanying had kept silent—not because she had nothing to say, but because she was holding back the pain.
Not long after Mother Song and her people left, she couldn't bear it anymore. With her eyes rolling back, she lost consciousness and fell to the ground.
Noticing this, Song Yan reached out and caught her. "Lanying!" he exclaimed in shock.
They fell to the ground with a thud. Using his body as a cushion, he hugs her in his arms. Ignoring the pain in his back, he quickly checked her condition and realized that she had stopped breathing.
In an instant, his body turned cold, and his mind went blank. But thanks to his experience as a doctor, even though his heart pounded with fear, he quickly regained his composure and administered first aid.
He unbuttoned her collar, lay her down, and began CPR. Song Yan's hands trembled but he didn't dare to stop.
"Lanying, wake up! Lanying!" He keeps calling her.
After a few tense moments, Su Lanying finally gasped for breath and regained consciousness.
Feeling relieved, Song Yan helped her sit up and leaned her against his chest. While checking her pulse, he asked, "Lanying, can you hear me?"
Su Lanying nodded weakly, still feeling dizzy and short of breath. Then she felt a sting on her arm and realized Song Yan was giving her an injection.
When he finished, he checked her again and asked, "Are you feeling better now?"
She nodded. Though still weak, she no longer felt as bad as before. Opening her eyes, she looked at him and said weakly, "I'm sorry… I didn't mean to say those words."
Hearing this, Song Yan froze for a moment before realizing she was referring to what she had told his mother.
Holding her gently, he said, "Lanying, even if you don't want to be with me, please don't refuse the treatment. If you don't want to see me, I promise not to bother you again. But don't be stubborn and put your life in danger."
Su Lanying shook her head and said, "I like you. I really do."
"Then why did you agree with my mother?" he asked sadly.
"Song Yan, I'm not as good as you think," she said, pausing for breath before continuing, "I'm someone full of schemes and lies."
"I agreed with your mother's words so she would go find you. Then… you would know what she did and feel sorry for me. In the end, I thought you would treat me better and still choose me."
Su Lanying smiled bitterly and added, "You see… I'm a bad person. So your mother is right… You shouldn't be with me."
