Chapter 188 - 188

"I wonder why."

The blond youth frowned slightly, as if he wanted a clear answer from the other party.

"Not so much why."

Finn shook his head, immediately rejecting the other's request.

At that moment, the old patriarch interjected, "Don't ask. Since Finn won't let you go, just stay here. Don't forget—the demon faction situation isn't truly over. Any day now, it could sweep through again."

The matter of the demon faction had long been a thorn in the side of their celestial order. Until it was eradicated, they would always feel the pain of its looming threat.

"Father..."

The blond young man opened his mouth to refute but was cut off by the old patriarch raising his hand.

"Enough. I've made my decision. You may go."

Seeing this, the young man reluctantly gave up. He cast one last deep glance at Finn, who sat motionless in the chair, eyes fixed ahead, then turned and left the room.

Only after the youth had exited did the old patriarch soften his expression. His face changed to one of kind regard, and he raised his hand toward Finn. "I apologize for his conduct earlier."

Finn merely shook his head and then looked up at the patriarch, a trace of doubt in his gaze. "You just said the matter of the demon faction isn't over yet?"

The old patriarch nodded gravely. "Yes. While I don't know the exact reason, their emergence must be tied to a secret buried within our domain. Perhaps it's an ancestral relic, or perhaps a curse tied to our celestial order. Either way, we must proceed with caution and resolve it as soon as possible."

"Seems like their ambitions are far-reaching," Finn responded. Then, in a steady voice, he added, "My advice: strike at their base of operations as soon as possible. I've already eliminated the demon leader—this is our best opportunity."

The old patriarch narrowed his eyes thoughtfully. "I suspect they intend to seize control over the entire divine realm through conquest and war."

"That's highly likely," Finn agreed. "Demons are savage beings. Their power is immense, but so is their greed. They won't settle for isolated victories—they'll expand until they dominate the interstellar domain itself."

The patriarch gave a weary smile and shook his head. "Perhaps. Still, this is speculation. We've only read of the demon faction in legends—we've never witnessed them with our own eyes. But according to ancient scrolls, I believe my assumptions are valid."

"Our order's inherited memory includes descriptions of them as well," he continued. "They're cunning, unpredictable, vicious. Assassins, destroyers, pillagers. Their hunger is relentless. Once they capture prey, it doesn't matter what species—everything is consumed. Then they vanish, leaving only fear and devastation in their wake."

"These are only conjectures," the patriarch admitted, "but if we don't prepare for their return, we'll be defenseless when they come."

Finn nodded solemnly. "Agreed. The threat they pose is catastrophic. Their resurgence is imminent. If you don't strengthen your defenses now, your entire order could be annihilated."

After a pause, he added, "We need a plan. The moment they arrive, it'll be too late to react."

He understood all too well the scope of Mephisto's ambitions. The demon lord's invasion of the primary universe had already revealed what horrors lay ahead. If Mephisto wasn't stopped, he'd continue sending agents into other dimensions until everything was corrupted.

The old patriarch looked at Finn with a conflicted expression. "This burden falls on you... I truly regret it."

Finn had already given so much. Even the divine beam of celestial energy gifted to him barely scratched the surface of the debt they owed.

Without Finn's intervention, their order would have been reduced to ash. They would've had no resistance against the demons' rampage. That alone weighed heavily on the old man's heart.

"I understand," Finn said firmly. "But get that defensive barrier reinforced. You can't afford another mistake."

"Alright."

With that settled, Finn followed the old patriarch out of the great hall and into the main plaza.

A large gathering of celestial beings had assembled. The crowd paused their duties, gazes fixed on Finn, admiration and reverence in their eyes.

His earlier display of power had shaken them to their core. The strength he revealed was awe-inspiring—something out of legend.

Finn nodded politely to acknowledge the crowd before continuing to follow the old patriarch and Wanda beyond the plaza to an open field.

"Where are we headed?" Finn asked as he caught up with them.

"Just a walk," the old patriarch replied, a melancholic tone in his voice. "It's been too long since we could enjoy peace."

"Fair enough," Finn replied with a short nod.

Night descended, cloaking the city in silence. The once-busy streets had grown quiet. The celestial city now basked in a rare moment of calm.

Finn, the old patriarch, Wanda, and the young celestial continued their walk beneath the stars, taking in the peace that might not last.

"Patriarch," Wanda said suddenly, turning to look at him. "Do you think the demon faction's plan will succeed?"

The old patriarch hesitated, then sighed. "It's hard to say... but in time, yes, I believe it will."

Finn blinked. "You're saying their plan will succeed?"

"Don't worry," the old patriarch replied, voice soft. "They're patient. It's not about if, but when."

"Why do you believe that?" Finn asked, frowning.

"Long ago, we fought them," the patriarch began. "We won... but we were devastated."

"How did you recover from that?" Finn asked, narrowing his eyes.

The patriarch gave a bitter smile. "Through evolution—thanks to the altar."

Finn was taken aback. "Altar? Where is it?"

"That way."

The old patriarch pointed, and Finn followed the gesture to a round tower in the distance. Its presence radiated energy.

"That's the Devil's Tower. We enter it every month to grow stronger."

Finn remained silent, his gaze fixed on the looming structure.
