Mated To The Cruel Prince-Chapter 39: Her Worst Nightmare
Chapter 39: Her Worst Nightmare
Everything was getting out of control and though Aldric loved the chaos, it was spinning out of his control. The human was moving faster than his plans and he loved to be in control.
It did surprise him though, he presumed Islinda was a dumb human but she was more interesting than he thought. He recognized the Iron arrow she purchased, the weapon that could very much end his life if she struck him in the heart. She was making a great fortification.
But humans would always be weak because she hesitated again. He could see the emotions; the conflict in her eyes. Aldric expected that with the weapon in her hand, she would strike at him, and perhaps, with the crowd around, they would be enough to subdue him while the Iron weakened him.
Yet, she didn’t.
Why?
The both of them owed each other nothing, so why does the human hesitate? It made him more than curious. If only he could get into her head and know what she was thinking. But after influencing Remy like this, Adric wanted Islinda with her mind intact. It made the game more challenging and fun.
She was clearly in denial, refusing to believe that he was not human. The little human clearly wanted him to remain the sweet, innocent, and adorable Eli that he faked to be. Nonetheless, he would grant her the wish and remain her sweetheart, Eli. He wished to see how everything would play out.
However, Adric forgot that Fate loves to play its games as well and this time threw him a curveball he did not expect in the name of bean cakes. Since he came into the human realm, Aldric had not bothered about sustenance since food here did not sustain him and he only ate it to keep up with appearance.
Until that moment.
He could not forget the way the flavor exploded in his tongue and though he could not sense any energy within the snacks, it was safe to say that he found the one food that held his interest - just like the human, Islinda. Having not eaten for days, it stirred his appetite and he devoured it all. Yet, it was not enough.
"More," He demanded.
She could not tease him like this, not when he just found the one food he loved in the human realm.
"And I said I have no more coins on me. Moreover, that’s enough bean cake for the day, not unless you want to get yourself sick." She scolded him and that made him see red.
How dare she speak to him that way? He was a Fae, a dark prince, far superior to her. And if he wanted to destroy her, he would get rid of her soul altogether. His people feared him for what he could do, yet this puny earthling openly rebuked him. She dared to deny him what he wanted.
"I said, more!" He snarled, almost losing himself to the bloodlust that blinded him.
Dark Fae was vicious, often fueled by their greedy nature and he almost gave in to it. Thankfully he snapped out of the haze and didn’t reveal his form inside a human market. He could destroy the humans if they dared to capture him but King Oberon wouldn’t like that and he was currently on a mission.
Islinda probably saw his mid-transformation which was why she kept her distance from him on their way home.
As usual, Adric was able to confuse her again with his superior acting. He cried like a child who was denied his want, while his puppet Remy consoled him, making the act more believable. Eli, his alter ego, has been a good child until today. Good thing, children were impulsive. It was a pretty good cover-up.
It was a blessing in disguise when they walked ahead because Aldric realized a little too late his brother’s arrival. He quickly tamped every bit of his power knowing Valerie would be able to sense it, then buried his face into Remy’s side. He was half her size and her petticoat pretty much hid most of his face.
Valerie’s feet were agile and swift. He almost seemed to glide, his movements a little too fast for a human to be able to track him if they looked back a second time. But Aldric recognized him clearly even with his cloak on and saw the way he intentionally ran into Islinda with a faraway look in her eyes.
Aldric saw the crumpled note he passed to her and took off before she could see him. He scoffed, his brother has never changed. Once Valerie was passionate about something, or someone in this case, he dedicated his heart, soul, and body to it. If he were a human, he would be called a romanticist. But with the same passion he loves, he hates deeply as well.
Minding his business, Aldric followed Remy’s lead back home. By the time he is done with his plan, there would be no love lost between him and Valerie. His brother dearest cannot have a throne and a passion as well, he had to choose one. Valerie took his throne, he would take something of equal value.
He met the rest of the annoying mother-and-daughter duo at home, however, their character took a massive turn when Islinda gave them their requests. The youngest even dared to smother him with hugs and kisses all just to flatter Islinda. All vain emotions, how is the little human able to put up with them? Perhaps, as a last favor when this is over, he would end their lives, nicely.
The rest of the day went uneventful aside from Islinda giving him a lecture about his behavior in the market earlier. However, unlike before, she was cautious, in case he turns out to be what she dreaded.
Oh, I’m your worst nightmare, Aldric mused.
Nonetheless, he went back to being the good Eli and she was able to relax afterward.
Night came and they shared the cramped bed again. But unlike other nights, she snuck away and Aldric knew that because he was very much awake.
Creatures like him thrived in the night and the human Islinda doesn’t know what’s coming for her.
