Mated To The Cruel Prince-Chapter 687: Not Jealous Of You
Chapter 687: Not Jealous Of You
"This is outrageous!" Islinda screamed, unable to hold back any longer, heedless of the high Fae’s warning. "How are you people so dumb? How does Elena know so much? How can a mere human like me murder your high Fae?! Think about it! You are being fooled right now!"
A hush fell over the hall. The sudden outburst silenced the whispers and brought all attention to Islinda. Her eyes were wide with desperation, silently pleading for their understanding. But the high Fae, in all their haughtiness, stared at her with cold, unblinking eyes.
And it was made worse when she turned to Aldric, silently begging him to step in and resolve this. Even if he was under Elena’s manipulation, wasn’t there a part of him that felt the wrongness of the whole thing and was fighting back. But Aldric stared on like a moron, as if his mind wasn’t his anymore.
"Of course, you couldn’t have acted alone," Elena said at the moment, climbing down the stairs and approaching her.
Standing face to face, Elena said to her, "I made sure to catch your accomplice as well."
"What?" Islinda was confused. For a moment, fear flickered across her expression, thinking that Elena had caught onto Maxi and Issac sneaking into the palace.
But no amount of preparation braced Islinda for the shock that overtook her when the giant doors were opened and Kalamazoo, engulfed in chains, staggered into the grand hall, pushed forward by two guards behind him.
Kalamazoo, the intimidating Fae who was always as strict with her, now looked defeated and broken. The chains clinked ominously with every step he took, his normally proud posture hunched under the weight of his restraints. His eyes, usually sharp and full of defiance, now carried a mix of pain, anger and resignation.
"No," Islinda whispered, her voice barely audible. "What was happening?"
Elena said softly, her voice dripping with mock sympathy. "You thought you were so clever, hiding your little plans from us. But we see everything, Islinda. We know everything."
"What? I did not —" Islinda wanted to say but Kalamazoo was shoved to the center of the hall, his chains rattling loudly and distracting her.
The high Fae looked on, their expressions full disdain and curiosity. Islinda could feel their eyes on her, judging, condemning.
"Kalamazoo" Islinda’s voice rasped, "I’m sorry."
Kalamazoo shook his head, as if saying this was not her fault. Not that it relieved Islinda of the guilt. Islinda knew this was her fault and he was merely caught in the middle of the brutal fight between her and Elena.
Islinda wanted to run to him, to somehow break his chains and free him, but she knew it was impossible. They were both trapped now, pawns in Elena’s twisted game.
"Touching reunion," Elena sneered. "But let’s not waste any more time. We have a trial to conduct, and treachery to punish."
Elena turned to the court, her voice ringing with authority and confidence. "Behold, this is Kalamazoo, Prince Aldric’s current aide and Islinda’s assistant in the murder of Lord Karle."
A collective gasp echoed through the grand hall as all eyes turned to Kalamazoo, standing in chains. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Murmurs of disbelief filled the air and while Kalamazoo should bow his head in shame, he glared at them defiantly.
"Preposterous!" one of the high Fae finally broke the silence, rising from his seat with indignation. "How could one of us collaborate with a mere human to commit such a heinous act? Is that even possible?"
Elena responded. "The evidence speaks for itself. I set a trap intentionally by letting out the news that Karle’s rings had been found in Islinda’s rooms and he was caught on his way to cover up the evidence proving he was her co-conspirator."
Elena must have tricked Kalamazoo, that was what Islinda thought because none of this made sense anymore. However, Islinda could not say that out, not while the murmurs grew louder, a mixture of outrage and confusion.
Some of the high Fae exchanged skeptical glances, while others nodded in grim acceptance. The atmosphere was charged with tension, the air thick with anticipation.
"This is a lie!" she cried out, her voice trembling with desperation. "Kalamazoo is innocent! He’s being framed, just like me!"
"Is that so?" Elena ignored her outburst, asking her instead, "Are you trying to say that I lie?"
"What?" Islinda was stunned.
"Have you forgotten that I am a Fae and I cannot lie?" Elena emphasized, a knowing smile on her face.
That part was what confused Islinda the most. If Eli hadn’t confirmed that Elena murdered Karle and if the said Fae wasn’t trying so hard to frame it on her, she would have thought she was being mistaken.
But Islinda was a hundred percent sure Elena was the culprit. So why was she lying? No, the question was, how is Elena able to lie? Fae are unable to lie, right?
Or could it be that she had made it possible through her wretched spells?
"Also..." Elena continued, "Why would I want to frame you? You make it sound like I’m jealous of you which is utterly ridiculous," She laughed, "What should I be jealous of? I’m Elena of the Raysin family, I have everything that I could ever need and a life you could never have. Not to mention I’m betrothed to Valerie, soon to be king of Astaria. So you tell me, Islinda, why would I be jealous of you, a pathetic little human? " She taunted her.
Islinda opened her mouth to speak, the answer right at the tip of her mouth — Elena wanted Aldric - but she couldn’t. Elena already fabricated a tale so convincingly it had swayed all the members of the court. Nothing she said now would make a difference.
"Thought as much," Elena smirked triumphantly. She turned and addressed the court. "With the evidence at hand, I suggest Islinda and Kalamazoo be put in jail while the investigation into the matter is ongoing. Who is with me, indicate by raising a hand?"
And all did.
