Modern World Warlock-Chapter 225: The Wizard, Wolfram
After Dante told the story of how he met Netherius, Imera stood up from her seat to give her description of Wolfram, the wizard.
The Golden Fox first heard about the wizard from another Sacred Beast, who was seemingly interested in his research.
Compared to Netherius and Dante, who were a little over 200 years old, Wolfram had lived for more than 700 years, using his magic research to increase his lifespan.
Imera thought it would be interesting to find out how the man was extending his life, so she decided to visit him at his library with friendly intentions. However, the wizard wasn't present when she arrived.
While waiting for Wolfram's return, Imera explored the library. To her surprise, she stumbled upon an open book on a desk, still in the process of being written, detailing the process of "lifespan growth."
At first, Imera felt a surge of luck at finding the information she sought. However, as she delved into the contents, her initial excitement turned to a more somber expression.
"You see… Wolfram used the heart of the Ruby Lion," Imera commented, leaving the group silent, expecting her to elaborate.
The Ruby Lion was a Sacred Beast like Imera, and they were quite close when they were young. Still, she found out about the death of her friend from a diary written by his killer.
The journal explained that Wolfram caught the beast by surprise, using a certain magic item that halted his movements, allowing the wizard to assassinate the Ruby Lion without facing him head-on.
After the Ruby Lion died, Wolfram extracted his heart from his body and ate it while casting a spell on himself, extending his life for thousands of years.
When Imera told the other Sacred Beasts about the Ruby Lion's fate, they all started to hunt down the wizard all over the world in search of revenge.
All Sacred Beasts treated each other like family and close friends, so when one of them was disrespected or challenged, the wrath of the other beasts would fall on the assailant.
During an encounter with Wolfram, Imera left the wizard at death's door before she fell into the convergence that sent her to Earth, so she never knew the true outcome of the battle.
However, now that the wizard was inhabiting someone else's body, she deduced he died in Terra, and his soul was brought into Ruben's corpse by Netherius.
"He can do that!? Like, he just picks which person he wants to put into a corpse!?" Zac asked.
Dante interjected and explained that powerful necromancers could 'tap' into the "Sea of the Dead" with their powers, allowing them to search for a specific soul.
The Jade Dragons recognized the name of the sea from Dante's old story, as it was the place that was guarded by Cerberus and where he searched for Beatrice's soul.
"While I could technically 'grab' a soul from the sea and put it on someone's body, I need to be there physically to do it…" Dante elaborated.
On the other hand, Netherius could search for any soul he wanted without having to travel through hell to get there.
After they had given their summaries, the group was dismissed and sent to the lab to train. Meanwhile, Camille and Melinda stayed in the office to come up with their next move.
The Jade Dragons and the GTS were allied, and while the Azure Rebels didn't reveal their alliance with the cartel publicly, they were aware they had been working together.
"What'd you think of that android with Alex?" Camille asked the Autumn handler.
"It looked like a new model. They resemble humans a lot more than before…" Melinda replied.
The Azure Rebels were the leading force in weapon manufacturing in Novaria, and even the government made deals with them from time to time. Hence, the handlers were familiar with some of their technology.
Ten years ago, their androids looked like robots they would see in sci-fi movies, with a metal frame and two blinking red lights as their eyes.
While the androids had the ability to speak, their artificial intelligence was limited, so they were mainly used as disposable soldiers.
Camille didn't have any contact with the Azure Rebels during the eight years of conflict with the Blood Dragons, leaving her in the dark regarding their upgrades.
"From the information gathered by Trinity—These new androids are much stronger and intelligent…" Camille commented.
After Lilith gave her report on the mysterious attacker at the cartel's mansion, they weren't sure what it could have been until they saw the android at the Stellar Reunion.
Dante couldn't sense any type of energy coming from the robot, which made it somewhat invisible to him, as he couldn't tell what the android was thinking or deduce their next move.
"So, target the Azure first?" Melinda inquired.
"It sounds like our best option… I'd like to keep the battles outside our territory as much as possible," Camille replied.
"Besides, there is something strange that's keeping Alex silent, so taking care of that first could be helpful for us later…" she continued.
"It's still quite strange, though. How come Vincent was the only leader without someone else's soul inside?" Melinda asked.
"You are asking the wrong person here. Noah was also himself, so they clearly have some sort of deal," Camille replied with a bit of uncertainty.

As the two handlers schemed their plans, Dante thought about creating a protective barrier around the Jade Palace.
It was a spell that took a bit of time to complete, but it was effective in keeping out anyone who didn't have permission to enter from the caster. However, it wasn't a spell that a warlock could easily use, as it was part of the wizards' school of magic.
"If I make a few catalysts, then Asphodel and Imera could complete the barrier…" Dante muttered to himself.
Still, the main problem for him wouldn't be protecting his team but actually killing Netherius.
The warlock knew that a fight with the necromancer could leave an entire district of the capital in utter shambles, and he wasn't even sure he could win.
'Man… Out of all the worst-case scenarios that I pictured in my head, I didn't think it could be this unfortunate…' Dante pondered.
