Modern World Warlock-Chapter 248: The Mountain Hangar
When Dante and his group spotted the cave opening far in the northern area of the Alanigan Mountains, they kept advancing toward it on air for a few more minutes before descending to the ground.
Dante and Asphodel were able to completely hide their presence by suppressing their aura. However, the vampire sentinel and the rest of the Omega Team couldn't do it, as it wasn't a skill they could quickly learn since it required years of training.
The main reason the pair decided to hide their aura was to prevent their enemies from sensing them before reaching the cave base.
While ordinary humans weren't able to detect it, a Death Knight wouldn't have a problem with it.
Still, Megan commented that if the guards in the base were androids, then hiding their aura wouldn't make a difference since the androids used a scanner to detect a person's body heat.
'She's right… I keep acting as if our enemies are just the necromancer's subordinates,' Dante thought.
As they kept hiking through the terrain and got closer to the base entrance, they noticed that there was no trail leading up to it.
"Ah, it's a mountain hangar…" Alice said.
"Like… for planes?" Zac pondered.
The ex-detective elaborated and said that the Azure Rebels had built a couple of those bases all over the Alanigan Mountains, and the only way to enter was through a flying vehicle.
Nevertheless, that didn't mean they could simply board a helicopter and fly inside, as they also had anti-air defense systems installed.
Suddenly, a triangular-shaped aircraft flew above them at a low altitude, making the ground rumble for a brief moment.
When the group looked up to see it, they noticed it went straight to the cave base and entered through the wide entrance, clearing any doubt the group might have had about it being a hangar.
"Was that a B-2 stealth aircraft?" Alice pondered, her voice mixed with interest and concern.
The ex-detective had an evident passion for military gadgets, which was helpful to the rest of the team, who were wholly unaware of what the aircraft was.
Alice explained that a B-2 aircraft used stealth materials to camouflage with the sky and could be used for recon or bombing.
It was not only one of the fastest but also the most expensive military vehicles in the world, and it had been developed by the Azure Rebels.
"Oh, I heard about this when I was a teenager… The rebels sold one of the aircraft to the U.S. military for almost 2 billion dollars," Megan commented.
"B-b-billions!!?" Zac exclaimed, putting an emphasis on the "B."
While it was concerning for the stealth aircraft to be flying around the country, considering the rebels were their enemies, the group decided to keep advancing towards the cave hangar.
When they got even closer to the area, Dante and Asphodel simultaneously halted their steps and looked up at the cave's entrance.
"What's wrong?" Megan asked, knowing what the warlock's expression meant.
"There's a very strong aura coming from that mountain… It's all necrotic energy," Dante replied.
Megan glanced at the mountain, but she couldn't see anything surrounding the seemingly ordinary peak.
As Dante placed a hand on her shoulder and covered one of his eyes, he shared one of his warlock eyes with her, allowing her to see the intense aura that flowed from the mountain.
Unlike how umbra looked, which Megan said resembled a red and purple mist, the energy coming out of the hangar was dark green with shades of black.
"That's necrotic energy…?" Megan pondered aloud.
Dante confirmed her suspicion and retracted his hand, returning her vision to normal. Still, he explained that the aura coming from the hangar wasn't being produced by a person.
"Right, I was going to say that…" Asphodel interjected.
"So, what could it be?" Zac asked, prompting the warlock and the Vampire Mother to shrug with clueless expressions.
'These two are way too calm…' The redhead thought.
After the group got even closer to the mountain with the hangar entrance in the middle, they waited for a few hours for nighttime to set, wanting the vampires to be at their full strength.
Their plan was for Dante and the vampires to use their wings and carry the rest of the team to the entrance.
"First, let's try to avoid fighting until we find out what they are doing in there…" Alice said to the group, assuming her old role of senior detective.
"Second, we look for any hostages," she continued.
As the ex-detective kept listing the mission's priorities, Dante decided to call Krom, the imp, to his side.
*Poof!* "What!?" Krom exclaimed as soon as he appeared.
Still, before Dante could reply to him, the imp glanced at the mountain beside them and shivered in fear.
"Where the hell did you bring me, Dante…?" Krom asked.
"I just want you to tell me if there is anyone strange in there… I can't focus with that nasty necrotic energy," Dante replied.
"Ermm…" Krom muttered, staring daggers at the mountain with a serious face.
"I don't sense any demons or Death Knights. It's just humans in there… Wait—that can't be right…" the imp continued, confused as to why there was so much necrotic energy coming from the mountain when there was nobody inside who could produce such a thing.
"Hmm, I see…" Dante said, holding his chin.
"Can I leave? This place sucks!" Krom said, prompting Dante to wave his hand and allowing him to 'poof' away.
"So, it's just going to be normal people in there? I'm glad…" Zac commented.
However, when Dante said that Krom couldn't sense the presence of androids, the redhead realized that it wouldn't be as simple as he thought.
When nighttime arrived, the group prepared themselves and their earpieces to communicate with each other.
Dante carried Megan, Asphodel took Alice, and the vampire sentinel, Ezekiel, carried Zac to the entrance.
Fortunately, no planes were leaving or entering at the time, and when they reached the entrance, they descended inside a massive hangar where dozens of military planes were parked.
'Alright, let's begin…' Dante thought.
