Modern World Warlock-Chapter 317: Alice and Claudia Vs. Isidor
After Alice and her companion, Claudia, encountered the Holy Death Knight, Isidor, at the tram station, the two women prepared themselves for a battle. However, they couldn't help noticing Isidor's clear anger towards them.
"Woman, what is your name?" Isidor asked, pointing the tip of his blade at the ex-detective.
"Alice Morris," she coldly replied without taking her sights off the knight.
"And how did you corrupt that white blade? Do you understand the blasphemy of your acts?" Isidor continued.
Alice scanned her surroundings and inspected the dark station, which had been fully corrupted by death's ichor, then turned her gaze back at Isidor.
"Quite the hypocrite, aren't you?" Alice replied, making Claudia smirk with her comment.
Isidor had been somewhat polite and calm when he encountered Balthazar and Dante, but seeing a corrupted white blade made him genuinely angry.
"You have sullied a weapon blessed by the gods. Where I'm from, the punishment would be death…" Isidor said, clenching the hilt of his sword.
"Whose gods? This is Novaria, buddy. People are allowed to practice all cultures and religions without prejudice," Alice confidently replied.
"All religions!?" Isidor asked, taken aback by the woman's words.
"Goddess Aelara… Forgive these sinners," he muttered in a low volume.
When Isidor took a step forward with his sword in hand, he was instantly blocked and interrupted by Claudia, who held his arm in place with supernatural physical strength.
The knight struggled to move his arm, and before he could cast a spell that would push the vampire away from him, Claudia kicked him in the chest and threw him against a tram cart.
"Ow…" Claudia said as she looked down at her leg, which was slightly bruised after striking the solid, silver armor on Isidor.
The vampire lady was testing how much the armor could resist, and after the kick, she was aware she would need more power to make a dent.
Isidor broke out of the cart by blasting a hole in the ceiling, jumping out from it, and placing his focus on Alice. Even though it was Claudia who dished out the first attack, the knight clearly had a grudge against the ex-detective.
As Isidor waved his long sword horizontally, a long arc of light appeared from it and traveled straight at the two women, who managed to avoid it with ease. However, the spell destroyed a few pillars around them, causing a chunk of the ceiling to collapse.
Both Alice and Claudia jumped backward out of the cloud of dust, prompting the ex-detective to pull out her pistol and shoot. She knew that her bullets wouldn't be able to break Isidor's armor, but she used the sparks that appeared from the impact to locate him while her vision was shrouded by the smoke.
When she noticed that the sparks were getting closer, she ducked down and avoided Isidor's slash, unsheathing her own sword and stabbing forward, releasing a blast of pure umbra that blew away the smoke surrounding them and forced Isidor back.
Realizing that his opponents weren't as weak as he believed at first, Isidor planted his feet on the ground firmly and clasped his sword with both hands.
Since he used to be a holy knight, he had the ability to use blessings, which were spells that used ether as their core energy.
After being brought back to life as a Death Knight, he also gained the ability to control necrotic energy. However, using blessings as an undead had a toll on his body, so he had to lower his power output so as not to get burnt out.
When Isidor stabbed his sword on the ground beneath him, the earth rumbled momentarily, prompting Alice and Claudia to take a cautious step back.
The pair expected Isidor to shoot a projectile or cast a spell, but after a few seconds, they noticed that his armor began to change. Its silver color was slowly replaced by an obsidian hue, and the crown on his helm got pointier and longer.
As Claudia inspected Isidor's aura, she could see how the small amount of ether that surrounded him before was utterly overwhelmed by necrotic energy.
"A mask-off moment…" Claudia muttered.
"If this is what it takes to rid the world of blasphemy, then I shall comply…" Isidor said, his voice sounding deeper than before.
"Man, you are annoying," Alice interjected, and her comment seemed to catch Isidor off-guard.
"You come to another world, to a country that's not yours. You help in the destruction of numerous districts and the massacre of its citizens, and you seriously dare to talk about blasphemy and your goddess!?" Alice continued, her tone laced with rage.
'I'm starting to understand why all of our allies from Terra have a bad relationship with their church…' Alice thought, frowning and gritting her teeth.
"I won't allow a dark paladin to roam freely… Justice will prevail!" Isidor shouted.
"Shut the fuck up! You clearly don't know what justice is!" Alice interrupted the knight, shouting even louder.
*Sigh* "I'm usually against death sentences since I believe people should be punished for their crimes…" Alice muttered after deeply exhaling, trying to calm herself down.
"Today is an exception," she continued, taking one step forward and rushing towards Isidor with her black sword in hand.
The knight raised his own weapon and blocked her strike, generating a shockwave at the point of impact, following it up with a barrage of quick attacks.
Thanks to Alice's training with Master Hayato, her swordsmanship had gotten to an advanced level, and while Isidor had more battle experience in that area, the ex-detective was able to keep up with his erratic movements.
During their exchange of attacks, Isidor was interrupted by a blood projectile shaped like a spear that hit him in the back. The spear was solid and bounced off the armor, but right as it did, it blew up and splattered blood all over Isidor's back.
"Don't forget about me, eh?" Claudia commented with a smirk.
