Chapter 90 - The Curtains Fall

Waaahhh, waaaahhh...

A child can be heard crying on the streets, his broken leg preventing him from escaping the lone Skeleboy approaching him with its rusty blade. Just as it lifted its sword to kill the young Catnis, a bright flash of light blew up, electrocuting it.

Under the boy's astonished eyes, the Skeleboy crumpled onto the floor, its body breaking back into plain bones. "Oh sweetheart, thank Illumia that you're safe! It must be her miracle that I can see you alive!"

Hugging her child, she wept tears of gratitude that the terror was at last over.

All over the city, the people began collecting themselves, searching for their lost loved ones throughout this whole mess. Some cried tears of joy, others tears of loss.

But this did not concern our group

Walking over to the case, Simon peered over it, wondering what the heck on Earadun it was. Scratching his head, he looked over to Lewis and Duncan, asking whether what he saw was an illusion or not. "Umm, did I see an arm fly out or not...?"

Duncan and Lewis glanced at each other, before both saying, ""Yeah, we did...""

Celine and Goblina, on the other hand, wiped their eyes furiously, still reeling from the sudden burst of light. "Hand? What hand? All I saw was a large ball of light flying into the sky, before coming back down..." Celine nodded in agreement, hands still wandering in desperation.

"Either way, this raises a whole can of questions. What on Terra have we gotten ourselves into..."

After an arduous couple of days, the city was barely able to be set back into order. The funerals of both Durmast and Eldruis were performed after most of the survivors were saved, Duncan and Simon not leaving their sides for the whole duration before the funeral.

Durmast's was a party and a half. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

To his wishes, a large banquet was held. Booze flowed through like a flooded river, drowning everyone in it drunk. Everyone laughed and cried at his memory, remembering everything that he had done with them.

"You remember the time when we caught him trying to trick a young Rabbitos with a piece of Casyrup grass?"

"Yeah, he nearly got beaten to death for it. But it was still not as hilarious when he got caught stealing those panties from old lady McAnis. Oh the beating that took place that day! Ahahahahah...!"

Everyone joined in on the conversation, laughing away in his memories...

Eldruis's, on the other hand, was a quiet and more somber arrangement.

His funeral was a more quiet arrangement. Barely anyone attended it, with only his close family and Guild members present. Duncan lay at the forefront, pinned on his shoulder a white rose. "Old man, it's been nice seeing you for the last time. I hope your soul rests on peace..."

With abfinal sigh, he, along with Simon, Lewis, and Titus, acted as pallbearers, burying him near his favourite Oaken tree, its leaves gently blowing in the wind, drooping down, as if sad at his friend's final departure.

With tbe burial done, everyone began leaving, Duncan being the last to do so. Just before he left, the wind lifted the rose from his chest, kissing him, before flying into the air. He turned around, wanting to catch it, before stopping in his tracks, and smiling.

There it lay, on top of Eldruis's grave, tucked right on top of the gravestone.

Duncan smiled for one last time, before turning back, heading to the others.

"Goodbye, old man..."
