My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 216: Wrapped in Warmth
Raelynn stirred from her sleep, her body reluctant to wake up as she sank deeper into the warmth that surrounded her. It felt safe, comforting, unlike the usual cold emptiness she woke up to. A part of her wanted to stay like this forever, wrapped in the soft embrace of something—or rather, someone.
Her lashes fluttered as she slowly cracked open her eyes, the afternoon light filtering through the curtains casting a golden glow across the room.
Raelynn let out a slow, contented sigh as she shifted slightly, feeling the warmth enveloping her. It was… nice. Cozy. A little too comfortable for an afternoon nap in the office, but she wasn’t about to question it just yet.
It had been a good sleep. A good nap.
When was the last time I had a nap like this?
Raelynn frowned slightly, her drowsy mind struggling to recall. It had to be a long time ago—maybe years, even. Naps, for her, had always been either stolen moments between stress or fitful dozing that left her more exhausted than before. But this? This felt like a nap she hadn’t known she needed.
Her mind was still hazy, caught between sleep and awake, but as her senses gradually sharpened, she became aware of the firm weight draped over her waist.
Elion.
Her breath caught in her throat as realization hit. His arm was wrapped securely around her, his palm resting against her stomach as if shielding something precious. His body was pressed close, radiating warmth, his steady breath brushing lightly against the back of her neck.
Raelynn’s heart began to pound.
She turned her head slightly, careful not to move too much, and caught sight of the bedside clock.
3:00 p.m.
She blinked, trying to piece together how she ended up here. The last thing she remembered was sitting on the couch, feeling unbearably sleepy. Did she doze off? That would explain why she didn’t recall coming to bed. But if she had fallen asleep on the couch, then—
Her eyes widened slightly.
Elion must have carried her here.
Her gaze flickered back to him.
How could he be sleeping here too? Didn’t he have work to do? If he was tired, he could have gone home to rest. Instead, he was here, holding her like this, as if he had no intention of letting go.
Raelynn’s heart clenched unexpectedly at the thought.
Her fingers twitched slightly, resisting the urge to reach out. Elion’s face was so close that she could make out every detail—the sharp curve of his jaw, the faint shadow of stubble darkening his chin, the way his usually intense features softened in sleep. He looked different like this. Almost vulnerable.
A soft, involuntary sigh escaped her lips.
No matter how many times she looked at him, it always made her heart race.
But before she could get lost in her thoughts, Elion stirred.
His brows knitted together slightly, his grip on her loosening just a fraction before his eyes slowly fluttered open.
Raelynn froze.
His gaze, still heavy with sleep, landed on her. For a long moment, neither of them spoke, simply staring at each other, caught in the quiet intimacy of the moment. The room was silent except for the faint hum of the air conditioning and their own steady breaths.
Then, a slow, lazy smirk tugged at Elion’s lips.
"Enjoying the view?" His voice was husky, thick with lingering drowsiness.
Raelynn’s face heated instantly.
"I—I wasn’t staring," she denied, but her flustered expression betrayed her words.
Elion let out a deep, rumbling chuckle, his amusement evident. "You were," he murmured, his voice a rich whisper against her skin.
Flustered beyond belief, Raelynn tried to pull away, but before she could move too far, Elion’s arm tightened ever so slightly, just enough to keep her in place. Not forceful, just firm.
"Stay," he said softly.
Raelynn stilled, her heart skipping a beat.
The way he said it, so quiet, so effortless, made something unfamiliar twist in her chest.
She swallowed, her mind at war with itself.
It wasn’t as if she wanted to leave.
But this—this closeness, this warmth—was dangerous.
She turned her gaze away, focusing on the ceiling instead.
Elion didn’t say anything else, nor did he let her go right away. They simply lay there in silence, bodies pressed close, sharing a moment neither of them dared to name.
But eventually, the spell broke.
Elion loosened his hold, allowing her to move freely. The loss of warmth was immediate, but Raelynn quickly sat up, putting a little distance between them to compose herself.
Elion, however, didn’t seem in a hurry to get up. He watched her lazily, as if still caught between sleep and wakefulness.
Then, slowly, he reached out.
Raelynn stilled when his fingers brushed against her cheek, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
"You can go back to sleep if you’re still tired," he murmured, his touch lingering for just a second too long before he pulled away.
Raelynn blinked, caught off guard.
She hesitated, then finally spoke. "What about you? Don’t you need to work?"
Elion hummed softly, shifting onto his back as he ran a hand through his dark hair. "Already finished half of it," he admitted, his voice still carrying that drowsy edge. "I’ll sleep a little more before I go back."
Raelynn frowned slightly.
He sounded exhausted.
Her lips pressed together as she studied him. Maybe he really was tired.
Poor thing.
Without another word, she let him pull her back down beside him.
This time, she didn’t resist.
She let herself sink into the warmth again, her back resting against his chest as Elion’s arm found its place around her waist once more.
His palm rested gently over her stomach.
A silent, protective gesture.
Raelynn stared at the wall in front of her, her lips curving into the softest of smiles.
It felt nice.
Being held like this.
Being protected.
And for the first time in a long while, she allowed herself to close her eyes, breathing in his warmth, feeling safe in his arms.
As if, just for this moment, nothing else in the world mattered.
