It felt like the night vanished in an instant, giving way to daylight. She sat in front of her vanity, carefully applying a light layer of makeup. Her hand moved steadily as she brushed a soft pink blush onto her cheeks. Sticking to her routine was calming, a good way to distract herself fromthe nervous energy bubbling in her chest.

Hera didn't say a word, just stayed close to her. Her sharp, observant eyes followed Raelynn's every move, though her expression betrayed nothing. Sloane lounged on the bed like she owned it, her legs crossed, leaning back on her hands.

"I still can't believe Elion chose Zake of all people to be your doctor," Sloane said, her tone tinged with disbelief. She shook her head as if the very thought annoyed her. "I mean, yeah, he's one of the best, but still."

Raelynn paused, the mascara wand hovering near her lashes. She glanced at Sloane in the mirror, her lips curling into a wry smile. "Do you think it's a good idea for you to come? Considering, you know..."

Sloane sat up straighter, pretending to be offended. "Of course, I need to be there. I'm your doctor too. And honestly? I want to know what he's going to say or do to you."

With a quirk of her brow, Raelynn smirked at the display. "Promise me you won't throw anything at him when you see him."

Sloane's tone shifted as her face grew serious, the air around her changing instantly. "No promises," she said flatly before rising from the bed and walking out of the room.

Raelynn and Hera exchanged a long look, both letting out a simultaneous sigh. "This is going to be... eventful," Raelynn muttered, setting down her makeup brush. Hera gave her a small, understanding nod but didn't say anything.

Raelynn found Elion waiting for her in the living room when she reached the bottom of the stairs, dressed impeccably as always. No suit today—just casual clothes that, if she were honest, were her favorite look on him. His gaze shifted from Raelynn to Sloane, and his brows lifted slightly.

"Oh, you're coming," he said, his voice carrying a faint note of surprise.

Sloane crossed her arms and tilted her head. "Of course I'm coming. As Raelynn's doctor, I need to know what the other doctor says and does." She slid on her sunglasses with a cool confidence before walking past him. "Let's go. Chop chop."

Raelynn stifled a laugh as she followed Elion outside. His car was parked in the driveway, sleek and spotless under the morning sun. The vehicle was far different from the one they had used last time, its design more modern and luxurious.

"Wow, nice car," Raelynn remarked, her tone light and teasing. "This isn't the one you drove before."

Elion gave her a small smile as he opened the door for her. "I have a few."

Raelynn thought to herself, Of course, he does.

The hospital was quiet when they arrived, their route taking them through a private back entrance. The sterile scent of disinfectant filled the air as they made their way through the halls. When they reached Zake's office, he greeted them warmly, though his friendly demeanor faltered the moment his eyes landed on Sloane.

"Elion. Raelynn," Zake said with a nod before his gaze shifted. "Sloane."

"Hello to you too, Zake," Sloane shot back.

The tension between them was thick enough to cut with a knife. Raelynn's gaze darted between the two, noting the way their expressions hardened. For a split second, Zake's composure cracked as his jaw tightened. Sloane, on the other hand, maintained her confident posture, though there was a sharpness in her tone that betrayed her irritation.

"Still holding grudges, are we?" Zake said smoothly, his smile not reaching his eyes.

"Grudges? Oh, please," Sloane shot back, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "I've moved on. But it's fascinating to see you're still the same."

"Some things don't change," Zake replied calmly, though his narrowed eyes told a different story.

Raelynn felt like a bystander caught in the crossfire of an invisible war. She stood stiffly between them, unsure of how to interject. As usual, Elion showed nothing. Whether he didn't care or was too familiar with the situation, she couldn't tell.

"I hope you're not dragging Raelynn into this little... rivalry of yours," Sloane continued, her arms crossed and clearly unimpressed.

"Rivalry? I'm a professional," Zake said, feigning innocence. He turned to Raelynn with a soft smile that felt oddly out of place. "Don't worry, Raelynn. You're in good hands."

"Oh, are we pretending professionalism now?" Sloane snapped.

Raelynn sighed, her patience wearing thinner with every passing second. She wasn't here to mediate a battlefield of unresolved tension—she was here for her baby.

The whole situation felt absurd, like some cruel cosmic joke. Of all the doctors Elion could have chosen, he'd assigned her two people who had clearly ended their relationship in a dumpster fire. She could barely believe it. Was he testing her endurance? Because if this banter dragged on any longer, she might collapse.

Raelynn finally found her voice, though it came out softer than she intended. "You know, if this is going to turn into a debate, I can just find another doctor—"

Pretending she'd leave was just a desperate ploy to stop their arguing.

She took a step toward the door, but before she could leave, Elion's hand shot out, gently but firmly grasping her wrist. He closed the distance, standing between her and the two doctors.

"That's enough," Elion said, his voice low but so commanding it ended the argument on the spot. His piercing gaze shifted from one to the other, lingering just long enough to convey his displeasure.

Sloane sighed, her shoulders dropping slightly. "Fine," she muttered, though her tone suggested she wasn't entirely done.

Zake straightened, clearing his throat. "Let's get started, shall we?"

Raelynn glanced up at Elion, who released her wrist but didn't move far. She gave him a small, grateful smile before following Zake into the examination room. Behind them, Sloane trailed closely, her sharp eyes watching Zake like a hawk.

Raelynn couldn't help but think to herself, This is going to be a long day.
