Chapter 313: Chapter 313 Unexpected coincidence.

When the prayers ended, the air seemed to shift. The crowd began to stir, and slowly, people started to leave. Some whispered among themselves, others exchanged brief nods or comforting touches before departing.

A few eagle and owl males glanced at Kyra curiously. They murmured to one another, their eyes lingering on her briefly before moving on, but no one approached her or asked any questions.

As the crowd thinned, Kyra caught sight of Jessie, Joy’s mother, walking toward her.

Kyra stood still, her heart heavy with both sorrow and guilt. She watched as Joy’s mother, Jessie, approached her with a calm but tired expression. Kyra felt a pang of discomfort, unsure of what to say. Jessie’s mates hovered protectively behind her, their expressions unreadable.

"Hi, female. You must be Kyra, right?" Jessie said in a gentle voice, her honey-colored eyes meeting Kyra’s. "My name is Jessie."

Kyra’s throat tightened. She wanted to apologize, to say something that could somehow make up for the terrible loss Jessie had suffered. "I’m so sorry for what happened," she muttered, guilt weighing down her words. She couldn’t bring herself to look Jessie in the eye and stared at the ground instead.

Jessie reached out and gently lifted Kyra’s chin, forcing her to meet her gaze. She smiled warmly, though there was an unmistakable sadness in her eyes. "No, dear," she said, her voice soft but firm. "You don’t need to apologize. Actually, I’m proud of him for what he did. He saved a life, and that’s something I’ll always hold onto."

Kyra blinked in surprise, not expecting such a response.

Jessie continued, a bittersweet laugh escaping her lips. "You see, I lost Joy three years ago. He disappeared, and we hadn’t heard from him since. I had hoped, for so long, that he was out there somewhere, alive. But now... at least I know what happened. And I know that he did something brave and noble in the end."

Even though Jessie smiled, Kyra could see the pain behind it. Losing her child, especially after he had been missing for so long, showed on her face. But there was also acceptance—she understood that even though Joy was gone, he was remembered for his courage and sacrifice.

"I can see you feel guilty," Jessie said, her voice still kind, "but don’t. Joy made his choice, and it was a choice that gave meaning to his life. He was always the type to put others before himself, even when he was just a young cub."

Kyra swallowed hard, her emotions swirling inside her. "Thank you," she whispered, barely able to find her voice. "I... I don’t know what to say."

Jessie smiled again and placed a hand on Kyra’s shoulder. "There’s nothing more to say, dear. Just live well. That’s what Joy would have wanted."

"If you ever need my help, I’ll gladly offer it," Kyra said softly, her voice filled with sincerity as she looked at Jessie.

Before Jessie could respond, a familiar voice interrupted them. "Mother," Kyra turned to see Lara approaching with a sad smile. It hit her then—Lara was Joy’s sister.

That was an unexpected coincidence.

Jessie blinked, her gaze shifting between Lara and Kyra. "I’m already an aged female... I may not survive until next winter," Jessie said with a weary sigh.

"Please, mom, don’t scare me like that!" Lara shouted, her voice strained with worry. Her males, standing nearby, looked at her with expressions filled with heartache. Lara resembled her father with her dark hair, but her honey-brown eyes mirrored her mother’s.

"Don’t say things like that, Aunty," Kyra added, her voice soft but firm. Damon patted her back in silent support.

Lucas, always ready to lighten the mood, chimed in, "Yes, Ky-Ky’s right, Aunty. You’re still so beautiful! You’ll live long and keep slaying males with your killer looks."

Jessie’s dim eyes suddenly sparkled as she laughed, the sadness lifting from her face for a brief moment. "You’re an interesting child," she said, amused, before turning back to Kyra with a more serious look. "All my children are mated now, but I worry about my son. He’s over thirty and hasn’t found anyone he truly likes. If you don’t mind, perhaps you could talk to him... see if you can help?"

Kyra hesitated, caught off guard by the request. She could see the hope in Jessie’s eyes and, after a brief pause, she nodded her head. "Of course, I’d be happy to speak with him."

Damon’s hand clenched at his side, barely managing to hide the flare of jealousy that flood through him, but he kept his expression neutral.

Jessie beamed, pleased with Kyra’s response. "Good, good. I’ll send him your way soon." She smiled warmly before her mates stepped forward to gently guide her away, nodding their gratitude as they too began to leave.

Kyra stood there for a moment, taking a deep breath. The guilt she had felt earlier began to ease. Jessie’s pride in her son’s sacrifice, rather than bitterness, helped Kyra feel lighter, even if just a little.

"I didn’t expect to see you here, Kyra," Lara’s voice broke the quiet, and she hugged Kyra tightly. Behind her, Alessandro and her four mates stood, their expressions gentle, though some of her mates were likely at home, taking care of Meeko and the house.

Kyra returned the hug, feeling the warmth of Lara’s support. Slowly, she pulled away, searching Lara’s face with worry. "I didn’t expect to see you here, either. And you’re Joy’s sister... you’re not upset with me, right?" she asked, her voice soft as she looked for any sign of resentment in Lara’s expression.

"Not at all," Lara replied, shaking her head firmly. "Don’t think like that, Kyra. Males are honored when they help females, and Joy did something proud by saving you. I didn’t expect there were monsters trying to destroy the world."

Kyra’s heart sank at Lara’s words. "I didn’t want this to happen," she said, the weight of guilt creeping back in.

However, worry began to consume her. Did everyone know about her and the monsters? And what about the world key? Would she be held captive and chased by others? The thought filled her with anxiety.

Alessandro seemed to sense her worry. "Yeah, somehow," he said, reading the concern etched across her face. "But thankfully, the great healer has been doing his best to cover everything up."
