My Servant System-Chapter 1324 - 1323: Bouncing Dicussion
Tossing a slab of monster meat onto the Demon Wolf's plate, I ignored her as best I could the moment after that and instead focused on the remaining pieces of meat, ensuring they were grilled to perfection and making use of the oils we had found to keep them juicy.
Lady Fenyras was staring at me pointedly, a deep rooted hunger resting within that silver eye, and it was never more apparent than now that someone wanted me so badly to be in their bed; she was practically undressing me with her eye as she stood there, and it wasn't... that bad.
Of course, when her looming presence got too 'dangerous' I glanced back at her and growled "Will you go sit down and eat? The meat'll get cold, and I'm not reheating it for you. Don't waste my cooking.", making her snort as she just turned and walked away.
When she joined the others around the larger fire, I breathed a sigh of relief and continued to get everyone else's meals ready, all while the Vampire beside me brewed up a giant vat of delicious and healing tea for us to drink.
She felt the same thing I had, and so she was staring at me with a mixture of worry and irritation that made my lips curl slightly, though I just said "Nothing happened, nothing will happen. Don't worry about it. Now, run that by me again? This one steak was just..."
Clicking my tongue, I flipped one of the slabs and stared at it for a few moments as I gauged its sear and tried to determine if I had cut the meat too thick, worried that I might have charred the outside and left the inside far too pink; I was of the doctrine of medium done, leaning towards being well done, simply because I understood it to be the perfect middle ground when preparing for large groups of people.
It was just pink enough to satiate those that liked biting the cow while it was still alive - thanks to it being juicy still and not like leather - while it was also cooked through enough that those that enjoyed said leather could still stomach this 'bleeding' meat.
Perfect middle ground, and I had perfected it over the years for most cuts of meat that resembled beef, but now I had some kind of fatty meat that was similar to beef in terms of appearance and feeling, and yet it cooked far differently, so my timing was off.
Anyways, as I continued to relish the challenge of cooking this dinner for everyone, Leone finally began to talk again and moved away from the charged moment between the Demon Wolf and I, bringing us back around to the pressing topic at hand.
"If you are correct that this is a 'literal stairway' in the sense that it takes us from this... plane of existence, this world, and raises us up to another, then that suggests that the people who created this place not only knew about that act of ascending, but also that they could do it. That they had done it, and that they might have also been capable of descending.
That was my primary worry. If we can climb up and achieve new heights, is there something to prevent us from descending back into this world and wreaking havoc? It would seem yes, because the world is still here and the strongest beings we know are all within reason, but at the same time..."
"What if instead of just coming down with all the power you come down with some restrictions? That there is a chance anyone could descend, just with a... siphon, or a filter on their Core, a restriction on what they can do and how they can do it? It's possible, but there is also the possibility that you can only ever move up."
The greatest thing about Leone as a person was how easy it was to bounce anything at all off of her and turn it into a deep, thought provoking and wonderful conversation that utilized quite a bit of your brain, and even in the simpler ways the act of just being made to go over everything was just... so nice.
Especially when it was something so interesting like this, something that had so many different facets to it that we could potentially study, with a variety of answers to each piece that we puzzled out together.
"That is definitely possible... but then there is the question of who might have come back down from this new place? And if they had come down, what could they bring with them? Any items? Is their knowledge limited, or do they know everything? Can they go back up?"
"My guess - funnily enough - is that the current prime candidate for someone who might have come down from this place would be your Mom. You know, a being so powerful and revered yet so mysterious? Someone who no one seems to know where she came from or how she managed to get so strong?"
Leone faltered at that, and the Vampire who had never been too good at hiding her emotions suddenly had her whole world spun around because of a possibility that I had suggested; I could see the confusion, the curiosity, the hint of betrayal and slightly wounded heart, so immediately I had to add something to not make her feel so down.
"Though the possibility of that is small. Lilith seems to speak of her like she knows a lot about her, and Lady Theresa doesn't seem to think of her like she's some... outsider. And she herself has spoken like she's born from here. It was just a passing thought is all..."
"No... it's a good question, a good theory. No one knows anything about her, not even us... and that's... well, I mean, isn't that suspicious? I don't know what she is, where she was from, if she had any family besides her parents - who I am presuming existed at one point since she is a mortal...

There are too many questions about her that I have had for a long time now, and the questions we have just discovered for ourselves... they add onto it too well. So... they need to be asked. When we get back, we need to ask them. To ask her."
