Chapter 32 - 32 - Doctor Seleyena escaped

"What are your intentions?" Thalia asked as she moved through the hospital corridor, catching the curious gazes of nurses. The man beside her was drawing too much attention, but she pressed on toward the exit.

"About what?" Cruxius replied without looking at her, his eyes fixed on the phone screen. He had just received detailed information about the Bernard family—something he'd personally requested.

With the kind of wealth he wielded, acquiring such data hadn't been difficult.

"Don't play dumb. I'm asking why you're treating Jenny so kindly," Thalia shot back, her tone edged with suspicion. She didn't know his full character yet—they hadn't been together that long—but one thing was certain: he was a lustful man and only moved when something sparked his interest.

"Isn't it obvious?" Cruxius muttered, his gaze still locked on the phone. He hadn't even glanced her way. Darithi was keeping a careful distance behind them, as per his instructions—not letting Thalia stray too far.

'!'

"You—don't tell me... are you after her body too?" Thalia asked sharply, her gaze turning violent.

She didn't know his type, and considering how perverted he was, the possibility that he might be interested in Jenny wasn't far-fetched.

Her resolve to escape him grew stronger with every passing moment.

"What? I like women, not..." Cruxius finally looked up, finishing his sentence with a cold sneer, "...bitches."

"...She's my sister. How dare you call her—" Thalia started, but faltered mid-sentence. She didn't want to defend Jenny—her stepsister who had tormented her like a spoiled child for years.

But between a demon who'd taken advantage of her while she was drugged, and the sister she left behind... even that choice was becoming murky.

Cruxius cut in.

"She drugged you. Tried to push you—no, tried to kill you. And she made you cry," he said, his tone razor-sharp with resolve. "She's not getting away with that."

Thalia folded her arms, her irritation spiking as she noticed his eyes drifting—not toward her face—but lower, to her cleavage while he talked as a genuinely gentleman in love—he was not fooling her.

A pervert, through and through.

"And you're talking as if you're any better," she muttered, glaring. "You rap—forced me... Who knows how much I cried? Even my eyes feel dry now..."

Her gaze shifted away, landing on the door to Dr. Seleyena's cabin, where she'd been earlier.

"Only I," Cruxius suddenly said, his steps halting.

"What?" Thalia frowned, not catching his words.

"Haah... Let me tell you something, woman." His voice lowered. "Only I can make you cry. Only I deserve to see those tears."

He raised his hand and placed it firmly under her chin, yanking her face up to meet his. His cold, commanding gaze locked onto her emerald eyes, which flickered at the boldness.

"You're mine," he said, voice unwavering. "Just mine."

"Y-you..." Thalia's lips quivered as something flickered behind her eyes—rage? Confusion? Yet whatever she was about to say twisted into a roar. "I am not an object, Cruxius Blac!"

The sudden outburst turned heads across the hospital corridor.

Patients, nurses, even passing interns froze—attention locked on the tall, composed man and the furious woman at his side.

"Sigh, I'd prefer you not be angry," Cruxius said evenly, his eyes calm as he leaned toward her ear. Her chest heaved with emotion, her glare locked onto him—unwavering, burning. Yet he didn't flinch. Close enough to feel her breath, he whispered,

"Because with anger... you look even more ravishing."

"Damn you—!" Thalia's fist flew, wild and impulsive—but he had already moved. A smirk curled his lips as he turned smoothly, steps unbothered, headed for the cabin.

"You are a pervert..." she muttered, this time loud enough for him to hear, frustration still in her tone—but the fury now mixed with a strange embarrassment.

"Nope. I'm not. I'm just a healthy man who wants to leave behind a legacy," Cruxius said without looking back, waving a hand casually as if clearing the air of doubt.

"Legacy, my ass," Thalia muttered under her breath as she trailed after him, the sharp click of her heels announcing her irritation.

"That's definitely one of my legacies—" Cruxius began with a sly smile, but his words were cut short as the door before him opened.

Krieek.

Thud.

"Oww—y-you?" Dr. Seleyena stumbled slightly, rubbing her forehead. She had just been about to leave the cabin, exhausted from a long day of chaos and desperate for a moment's rest. The last person she wanted to see was now standing right in her way—again.

"Oh, Doctor Seleyena, I was just about to—" Cruxius began, fully intending to offer her a position at one of his private hospitals. It was the perfect excuse to keep her close, perhaps even appoint her as his personal medical advisor. But she seemed... off. Her hands trembled as she fumbled to adjust her glasses.

"I... me... Leave—my bad—I mean, my head hurts. Please excuse me, Sir Cruxius..." she stammered. Her gaze fell, and she tried to slip past him, but he didn't budge enough to let her through.

"Wait. You don't look okay," Cruxius said, eyebrows narrowing slightly as he noticed her disoriented state. Her voice trembled, words jumbled. Gently, he reached out to touch her forehead—checking for a fever.

But she recoiled instantly, stumbling back as if his touch burned her.

"Sir Cruxius, p-please let me go. I request you," Seleyena pleaded, hand pressed against her forehead, her gaze rising with a fragile tension. Her eyes shimmered—not with tears, but with something heavier. Memories, maybe.

"I..." Cruxius paused. He wanted to argue, wanted to demand she explain what had happened. But her condition felt... strange.

He hadn't been gone long, yet she looked flustered, shaken.

Was it embarrassment over what happened earlier? Or something else? His gaze drifted to her hand, which she kept brushing against her cheek.

A toothache, maybe?

He exhaled and offered instead, "Fine. But you'll need to become my personal health care assistant."

"O...kay..." she mumbled, clearly not even processing his words. All she wanted was to get away—now.

As soon as he gave her an opening, she slipped through like a startled deer, vanishing down the hallway.

Cruxius watched her go, while the few doctors nearby exchanged bewildered glances.

It was the first time any of them had seen the composed Dr. Seleyena so... unprofessional.
