Chapter 119: Son

Relief surged through Elian the moment he saw his mother. It had only been a year, but it felt like a lifetime.

In a flash, it all came back—

The tunnel. Bianca. His first battle. The monsters. The humans. What it cost him.

He’d faced more than most would in a lifetime—and somehow survived. This year nearly broke him. But despite everything—it didn’t.

He’d known suffering, but he’d also known bliss.

He squeezed Bianca’s hand without thinking. Just knowing that she was by his side anchored him to reality. Despite no longer being human. Even though he had holes in his memory. Bianca was proof that he was still Elian Reed. And that he still deserved to live.

Susan Reed quickly ran toward Elian. She threw her arms around him and wrapped him in a tight embrace. "Elian. Are you alright? Are you hurt?"

Her voice was nostalgic and comforting. It reminded him that in this space, he didn’t need to be strong. That he didn’t have to act. Elian could just be himself.

Smiling, he returned his mother’s embrace and felt immense gratitude.

"I’m fine, Ma. I just miss you a lot."

Susan took a step back. "You silly boy! This is your fault! Vague calls, no updates—look at you! You’re all bones! And pale! Do they even let you step outside at all? Are you eating properly?"

She crinkled her nose and scolded with a frown. "Goodness me, you smell of ash! Please tell me you did not pick up smoking from your officemates!"

She is still the same.

Seeing her fuss over him made Elian chuckle heartily. Susan Reed was your average mom in all the right ways. She was fussy, overprotective, and made it her life’s mission to see her child as plump as a pig.

"I haven’t, Ma. Relax. Things have settled down—I can visit more often now."

"Hmph! But your bosses are disgusting, greedy, horrible people! How dare they keep you there like a criminal! I should give them a talking to!" Once she calmed down, Susan’s eyes fell on Bianca. "And who might this lovely woman be?"

Elian could tell Bianca was trying her best to not appear nervous. Only she was failing. Contrary to her usual grace and confidence, Bianca moved like a stiff puppet. With comically robotic movements, Bianca greeted.

"Good evening, Mrs. Reed. My n-name is Bianca Valestra. I am E-Elian’s boshhss."

Despite Bianca slurring her words, Susan understood who she was. Within seconds, she paled and turned to Elian in panic. But she quickly recovered, grabbed Bianca’s hands, and smiled.

"Oh! It is so nice to finally meet you, Ms. Valestra. Thank you for treating my boy so well. I hope he isn’t being a nuisance to your fine organization."

Impressive as always, isn’t she? Relax, Bianca—my mom’s superpower is smiling through anything, even when she’s dying inside, Elian thought.

Bianca couldn’t help but awkwardly stifle her laughter.

"Please do not worry, Mrs. Reed. "Elian is one of our top assets. Sharp, dependable, and consistently overdelivers. We’re very lucky to have him."

"Really? Please, tell me all about it! Oh, where are my manners? Have you both had dinner yet? Come, come inside; we still have some leftovers! Ah. Do you eat leftovers, Ms. Valestra? I can cook something up real quick if you don’t."

Bianca shot Elian a helpless glance. Yet the Tyrant did the unthinkable. He placed his hand on her waist and pulled her body closer to his.

"It’s fine, Ma. Bianca is here not as my boss right now."

"Wha—"

"She is here as my girlfriend."

Susan froze. Bianca lowered her head in a fluster and blushed.

"Oh, by the way. She is at least forty years older than me."

"ELIAN!"

Despite Bianca’s panic, Susan chuckled. "You’re exaggerating. Right? This is just some weird work thing."

"No, Ma. I’m 100% serious."

"TOM! TOM! GET YOUR BUTT DOWN HERE! WE HAVE A BIG, BIG PROBLEM!"

***

In the tiny living room of the Reed family sat Tom and Susan Reed.

Susan’s lips curled into a polite smile, but her eyes didn’t blink once. Gone was the subservient mother of an employee. Now she exhibited mother-in-law energy; Elian’s last bomb had made her extremely guarded.

Meanwhile, Elian’s father, Tom Reed, was your typical gruff and bearded father figure. He was exhausted from calming down his wife. But also grew curious about the story he hadn’t heard. Unlike with his mother, Elian and Tom just exchanged a nod.

To them, that was enough.

Which was what led to the current situation. Bianca sat as still as a wallflower, praying not to be noticed. His father had literally restrained his mother’s hands.

Elian leaned back and watched. Seeing the three most important people in his life awkwardly tiptoe around each other felt weird but fulfilling.

But the Tyrant had not come here to simply chat. Just as he saw the impact on the rest of the city, stubbornly trying to keep his parents in the dark didn’t feel right to him.

Elian glanced at Bianca. Then at his parents.

"Mom, Dad. Everything you know about me for the past year... has been a lie."

"What are you—"

"Susan, let him finish..."

"But..."

"It will be fine."

Seeing how the two of them supported one another, Elian couldn’t help but smile. It would have been perfect if he could keep them ignorant. But the world was not that kind, nor would it show any mercy. Above all, Elian just didn’t want to lie to his family.

Bianca sealed the entire living room with mana to ensure no one could eavesdrop. Tom and Susan were surprised at her act. Elian got up from his seat and invoked his skill.

"Charade, human."

And transformed into Elian Reed, the Tyrant. His taller, older, and more imposing human form.

Susan covered her mouth to stifle a gasp. Tom clenched his jaw as his eyebrows furrowed.

But Elian didn’t stop there; he again altered his body.

"Charade, golem."

Within seconds, he morphed into a black golem encased in armor.

Elian shoved his hand into his chest and pulled out his core. He showed his golem core to his parents.

Both were understandably speechless.

"As you can see, I am no longer human. I am now a metal golem."

Tom and Susan were the reason Elian was the man he was today. One of their biggest lessons was to take the world for what it was, not what he wanted it to be. Which basically meant accepting what one couldn’t change and changing what one couldn’t accept.

Elian had faith. In both his parents and Bianca. That their relationship was strong enough to withstand the truth.

"Charade, human."

Reverting to his Tyrant form, Elian sat back down, took Bianca’s hand, and kissed it.

"A year ago, on the field trip at my school, I was almost killed in a dungeon outbreak. That was when I met Bianca. She is the only reason I could come back." He squeezed Bianca’s hand and added, "And I can no longer live without her."

Elian turned to his parents and gazed into their eyes. "I know you have questions, but can you listen to everything first?"

Both Tom and Susan nodded. He then recounted his entire journey to his parents without any falsehoods. The only thing he downplayed was how many times he came close to dying. When Elian finished, Tom only had one question.

"Then the one we were speaking to? The sudden move, everything afterward?"

"That would be my fault, Father-in-law," Bianca said quietly. "I... Let me explain."

Bianca then shared all the steps she took to protect Elian’s parents. Including what happened to the stand-ins she prepared. By the end of it, neither Tom nor Susan could speak a word.

Susan neither cried nor shouted, but Elian could see the emotions in her eyes. In contrast, his father grew calmer as he heard more.

"So you are now a being as strong as the Big Three? And you made this faction, the Weapons of Valestra, all to wage war across the universe all for her?" he asked while gesturing to Bianca.

"Yes."

"I see. Then do what you think is right," Tom Reed said nonchalantly.

Susan, however, wasn’t going to have any of it. "Tom! Stop it! Talk some sense to your son! He is going to get himself killed!" She turned to Bianca and berated her in a trembling voice, "It doesn’t have to be Elian, right? You have your own people now; can’t you just leave my son alone?"

Bianca’s shoulders slumped, obviously ashamed of herself. But she soon took a deep breath and answered Susan.

"I can’t," the witch mumbled. "I don’t want to."

"You’re old enough to know better! Don’t saddle my boy with your past! You saved him; I thank you for that. But he has avenged you! He no longer owes you anything! Find someone else!"

But Bianca slammed her hand on the coffee table in frustration.

"That won’t be possible, mother-in-law! I-I do not want anything else. I don’t care if you hate me for the rest of my life! But please let me stay with Elian. He is my most important person. I know I am being shameless, but how could I not fall for your son!" she screamed.

Bianca then began sharing short videos to everyone’s nanomachines. They were of Elian’s exploits seen through her eyes. His romantic confessions, his bravery in combat, and his tenderness when he spoiled her.

"Look! Look at how incredible and sweet Elian has been to me! I would be the world’s biggest fool for letting someone like him get away! In all my years, there has not been anyone as brave, compassionate, and endearing as your son!"

Hearing her outburst of praise, Elian felt awkward, but somehow, Susan and Tom were both nodding their heads in understanding.

"Sigh, Tom. What do we do?"

"We do what parents always do."

He looked at Elian, then at Bianca.

"We believe in the man we have raised."
