Chapter 121: Watch

Seeing the fear in the people’s eyes, Elian could understand. To the vast majority of humans at Dawn tier, fighting monsters was not really an option.

Thus, rather than fight, they will either run or surrender. And if such weaklings could survive by giving someone else up, they would naturally jump at the chance.

It wasn’t like there were many options for them to begin with.

Ignoring the mob, Elian turned to Ned, "You good?"

"Yep. Just peachy. You’re going right?"

"I am."

"Cool. Naturally, I am coming with you."

Elian felt his blood boil. Despite being one of the said weaklings, Ned always strove to be better. Despite having less than the mob in front of them, his brother was all too eager to fight.

"I dunno. You’re kind of dead weight. What if you die? Charlotte will kill me," Elian mocked.

Ned shook his head and retorted, "Dead weight? Me? Ha! You’re delusional. Why don’t you just run away? I will fight in your stead."

"Not happening. I am not letting those things prance around here for 60 hours. I will butcher their Tyrant, like I did with the first one."

"What? You already beat one of them?" his friend asked in disbelief.

"I did. Why do you think they hate me? Anyway, I am serious, Ned; you are far too weak to be of any use. Don’t you have someone to protect right now?"

"Please stop your condescending remarks, Sir Silver! I am right here!" Charlotte chided. "I don’t need protection. You do. My breakers are all rallying to this point as we speak; by tomorrow morning, an army of five hundred breakers will be at your disposal."

As Elian and the others discussed, the breakers on the ground quickly began to understand. The ones they just threatened were people who lived in different worlds. Their heads lowered in shame as they slowly retreated.

"Isn’t Lottie amazing! That number has four hundred and eighty A-Ranked Breakers and twenty S-Ranks. Give them armor like mine, Elian! That way those people can be just as strong, if not stronger than I am!" Ned cheered with pride.

Twenty S-Rank breakers might sound impressive, but if they were all on the level of Arjun, they would hardly be of use. And having incompetent allies was worse than fighting alone.

Plus, I hardly trust any of them.

"I refuse. I only grant power to my people," Elian declared curtly.

"What? Lottie is part of our group, you bastard!"

Charlotte had a complicated expression on her face, but she remained silent. Bianca got between Ned and Elian and mediated.

"Let us all calm down, okay? Ned, sweetie, there will come a time to arm Charlotte’s breakers with our weapons, but not now. We can manage with just us for now."

"Velvet, are you seriously thinking of going up against them with just a handful of people?"

Bianca crossed her hands behind her back and smiled.

"Well, not people, per se. But very reliable allies."

At her command, Fluffy, Bastion, and Silent all transformed into their weapon modes. The sight of 10-meter giants of metal caused the peanut gallery to back away in terror.

"What the hell are those?!"

"They were keeping monsters all along!"

But the surprises didn’t stop there. Bianca turned to Elian and winked. She raised her hands, and the air around the street began to separate at an atomic level. Similar to before, the witch turned the air explosive.

Elian then threw a pair of boomerangs that collided inside Bianca’s blast zone. In an instant, a ravenous fire came to life. Pure oxygen poured into the current as it began to spin, giving birth to a hurricane of flames that towered as high as a building.

The sight against the darkness was both mesmerizing and terrifying.

Elian and the wolves all began chucking Flame Swallow cores at the whirlpool of fire. One after another, Flame Swallows revived and began to soar into the sky.

Like a firework demonstration, the entire city bore witness as an uncountable number of small suns rose from the flames. Each one made the evening brighter until there were so many that the heaven’s looked like they were burning.

Charlotte and Ned froze in place as the Flame Swallows kept reviving.

"J-Just how many of these birds do you have?"

"Yeah. That would definitely work against the invaders. That would blow them, their ashes, their ancestors, and their ancestors’ ashes to the next century."

Elian couldn’t help but smile at Bianca’s power plays. If earlier the entire town had its heart gripped in fear, now they were in awe of the thousands of suns flying above them. It went on for a full ten minutes until the revival finished.

Burny descended and perched on Bianca’s arm, reporting glee, "Master, the Flame Swallow army has been assembled. What are our targets?"

Bianca didn’t answer immediately and petted Burny’s radiant plumage. "An army is invading this city tomorrow. We shall intercept them."

"I see," Burny cooed in pleasure. "Do we go now? Or are we still waiting for anyone?"

The Witch turned to her Tyrant and asked affectionately, "Darling? Do we wait or intercept?"

Elian thought for a moment, then turned to his best friend, "Ned, has the Truthsong Church said anything?"

"Huh? No, they haven’t."

"So they really intend to leave this city to its fate?" Elian wondered aloud.

A gruff voice answered. One the Tyrant hadn’t expected.

"The Bloodright of Conquest has ordered all its personnel to abandon Crestfall City."

Ned shouted in disbelief, "Are they for real? There are millions of people here! How could they just do that?"

"That’s how they operate, unfortunately; it’s why the Big Three rarely stay long in one place. Doing so invites those with grudges to attack you," Bianca divulged. Her voice dripped with disdain and scorn.

"But what about the Breakers here? They have families and lives centered in this place," Charlotte howled at Marcus. Her eyes burned with a fire that would engulf entire cities.

"Isn’t fighting an option?" Ned asked in a trembling voice. "Do they really just abandon people like that? How many times has this happened? Why don’t more people know about it?"

Marcus said nothing and just clenched his jaw; he turned to Elian and shared, "My superior told me to tell you. For your arrogance, Crestfall will be sacrificed, and the world will know it happened because of you. Run or die; you will have no place among humans ever again."

The ominous words drove home just how decisive the world leaders were.

A sudden system message appeared before Elian, and everyone present.

Although there were three prompts, the content was the same.

"These conniving bastards."

At Ned’s outburst, Charlotte couldn’t help but take a step back from Marcus. Issuing such alluring bounties would ensure Breakers would try to hunt Elian en masse.

Yet the man who was just turned into public enemy number one was busy fiddling with his System UI. Bianca, who was looking over his shoulder, giggled in mischief at the screen.

Their actions puzzled those around them. Even the dumbest of the dumb knew how high the stakes were. But Elian and Bianca laughed without a care for the world. Charlotte was about to shake Bianca awake when new pop-ups arrived.

[Alert: The Earth Faction: Weapons of Valestra has issued an Earth-wide announcement.][Don’t worry, I got it.]

"W-What?" Charlotte couldn’t help but cover her mouth in surprise. "Y-You have a faction?"

When the quest went out, Elian and Bianca broke out in laughter. Like a pair of lunatics, they expressed joy while the entire city froze in confusion.

Eventually, the onlookers approached Elian and asked with curiosity.

"Uhm... Lord Elian, is this quest for real?"

The one who answered the man was Bianca, "Why yes! If we really like your submission, we will give a bonus of 100,000 crowns! But it’s only one person per entry."

"For real?" "Oy! Call everyone!" "Buy a cheap phone quick!"

The people who couldn’t understand the danger understood the simple quest. One of them took it a step further. A fairly attractive woman inquired, "Uhm, I am quite a famous influencer; what if my video gets you traction, like maybe five million likes or shares?"

Bianca made a dazzling smile as she answered, "I will give you a million Crowns."

"Bro! What the hell!" "I’m going to be a millionaire!"

The people scattered not from fear but from greed. Ned and Charlotte could only comment in exhaustion.

"Lottie, what the hell did we sign up for?"

"Your guess is as good as mine."
