My Young Husband, The Assasin-Chapter 40: The price of arrogance (2)
Chapter 40 - The price of arrogance (2)
The enraged and sorrowful Lady Kenzaki fiercely resisted being forcibly evicted, but ultimately, this luxurious mansion fell into Renji's hands.
It didn't take long for all the occupants of this lavish residence to be driven out without any significant resistance. Even all the guards were easily defeated in minutes.
Although Lady Kenzaki struggled, cried, and screamed hysterically as she was forcibly carried out of the house she had lived in for decades—a place filled with countless memories—she was unwilling to leave in such a manner.
Yet, there was nothing she could do but resign herself to the situation, even though her heart was heavy and reluctant.
"Young master, what about the servants here?" asked Yamato, who was also gathering all the servants working in this residence.
"Tomorrow morning, have all the servants pack their belongings. Give them six months' worth of salary to help them start a new life outside, as they have no connection to the Kenzaki family's wrongdoing."
"Understood, young master."
After being forcibly evicted from her in-laws' grand mansion in the middle of the night, Maki initially planned to seek refuge at her parents' house. However, who would have thought that her parents' hospital was on the brink of bankruptcy? It turned out that Maki's father had secretly borrowed a massive amount of money from Renji's company. Instead of using the money to expand the hospital, he had spent it on traveling abroad with his wife. Now, Maki's parents' whereabouts were completely unknown, as they had fled and gone into hiding to escape Renji's pursuit.
Perhaps due to exhaustion and her advanced pregnancy, Maki fainted upon hearing the news about her parents.
As the saying goes, "When it rains, it pours." Maki's world was turned upside down in just one day.
The comfortable life of luxury she had enjoyed since birth vanished instantly at the hands of a young man. This young man, whose every word had the power to change everything, was not without reason. His immense wealth spoke volumes, for while money isn't everything, the fact remains that everything in this world is bought with money.
Earlier, Maki considered herself fortunate, unlike Aira, who had to live a simple and limited life with no family to take care of her. Aira's life was definitely hard, but her unhappiness made her happy.
There was a reason why Maki had hated Aira for so long.
Maki first met Aira in high school, and coincidentally, they were in the same class from their first year until graduation. This forced Maki to get to know Aira, even though Aira was known as the bookworm at school, always reading in the library or during any spare moment, especially as a scholarship student or someone relying on social assistance.
Aira, the quiet bookworm, was the least popular student, and her existence was almost entirely overlooked.

Meanwhile, Maki Kurogane was known as the school's prima donna—beautiful, popular among the male students, and the school's idol.
How could Maki and Aira, who were opposites, become close friends? The answer was divine fate, as Maki never intended to befriend Aira. She only needed a study partner to improve her grades—nothing more. But it seemed Aira thought more of it, believing Maki to be a kind person, unaware that she was merely being used.
After graduating from high school, Maki chose to study abroad. At the same time, Aira continued her education at a prestigious university through a scholarship.
It seems that Aira could only attend school through a scholarship because she couldn't afford the fees. Even covering her living expenses was difficult, let alone paying for tuition. It was during her university years that Aira met and got to know Kairo, eventually leading to a romantic relationship between the two.
After years of not seeing each other, Maki decided to return to Japan after completing her studies to help with her family's hospital. This decision brought her face-to-face with Aira again at a luxurious restaurant.
At first, Maki thought Aira was working as a waitress at the upscale restaurant, but it turned out she was dining with a handsome young man whom Maki had known for a long time.
In fact, long before Kairo and Aira even met and started their relationship, Maki had known Kairo first. They were childhood friends, attending the same school from kindergarten through elementary school. However, in middle school, Kairo decided to move to America with his family, where he stayed until graduating high school.
Back then, young Kairo was like a stamp stuck to Maki. He always told his friends that he had a huge crush on her, whom he considered the prettiest girl in school.
But Maki found Kairo's silly and odd behavior foolish, so she outright rejected him. At the time, there was Usui Ishikawa in their class, who came from an extremely wealthy family and was incredibly handsome, making Kairo seem insignificant in Maki's eyes.
Her shock at reuniting with Kairo was compounded when Aira proudly announced that they had been dating for several years. Seeing Aira's proud smile in front of her made Maki feel as though her pride as a young lady was tarnished as if she had lost to someone like Aira, who was of a lower social status.
Maki had never felt inferior to anyone before, and seeing Aira—her former schoolmate who used to run errands for her, deliver gifts from male students, and buy her lunch—now in a special relationship with Kairo, a wealthy young man from the Kenzaki family, was a blow to her ego.
Moreover, Kairo now looked incredibly handsome and cool, earning him extra points in Maki's eyes.
Secretly, Maki tried to seduce Kairo, convinced that his feelings for her still lingered. After several attempts at flirting and seduction, Kairo remained unmoved. However, one night, Maki deliberately trapped Kairo, leading them to spend the night together. Because of that incident, a new life began growing inside Maki.
Discovering she was pregnant made Maki feel on top of the world. She believed Kairo would have no choice but to marry her, feeling responsible for what happened that night. And she would discard Aira just like that.
Her desire to see Aira suffer finally came true. She even deliberately invited Aira to her wedding at a luxurious hotel, where Aira's life would change completely.
Maki had once thought her married life would be filled with happiness and beauty, but it seemed her expectations were too high and merely wishful thinking. In reality, Kairo's attitude was somewhat cold and indifferent. Every night, he would call out Aira's name in his sleep. Even though Maki had Kairo's body and held the title of Lady Kenzaki, his heart and love still belonged solely to Aira, even to this day.
And that was what fueled Maki's hatred for Aira, especially when she saw that Aira had successfully married a wealthy man from the Ishikawa family. This only deepened Maki's resentment, as her status now felt even lower than Aira's, who was merely the illegitimate child of her parents.

The ringing of his phone echoed, disturbing Renji's deep sleep. Although he had only been asleep for two hours, the noisy ringtone was incredibly annoying. Fortunately, the woman beside him didn't wake up and remained sound asleep.
"What is it, Tetsuya?" Renji asked in a hoarse voice, typical of someone just waking up.
(Did I interrupt your sweet dreams, chicken butt?) Tetsuya teased from the other end of the line.
"If you called just to say that, prepare to have your head shining bright under the sun," Renji retorted.
(What do you think my head is? An idiot?) Tetsuya grumbled, annoyed and provoked.
"Enough with the nonsense. Why did you call me?"
(Everything is done as you wish.) Tetsuya informed him about the results of his work that night.
"What do you mean?" Renji frowned, confused as if he didn't understand, even though he was the one who had given Tetsuya the orders.
(All of the Kenzaki family's assets have fallen into our hands, as well as the Kurogane family's hospital.) Tetsuya explained.
"Good job. I'll transfer the money to your account immediately." A wide smile spread across Renji's handsome face, feeling both satisfied and pleased.
(Don't forget to add a bonus for me too.)
"I'll send Keiko to your place to keep you company."
(No thanks!) Tetsuya firmly refused.
"How about Fujimoto Saki?"
(My neck might get snapped by her. Stop joking already, and I want to go home and sleep.) Tetsuya complained in a tired and sleepy tone.
"Thank you, Tetsuya, and rest well." Renji ended the call.
True to his promise to Tetsuya, after completing the job, Renji immediately transferred a sum of money to Tetsuya's account and also sent several million yen to various charities run by Tetsuya, focusing on education and orphanages. On the surface, Tetsuya appeared relaxed and indifferent, seemingly absorbed in his world. Still, behind the scenes, he was a regular donor to a global charity organization for children in Africa. Renji wasn't much different, as he also ran a charity organization, using a portion of his earnings as a businessman to fund the education of underprivileged children.
In fact, Tetsuya had written his will long ago, leaving a portion of his inheritance to Renji's firstborn in the form of stocks, investments (both liquid and fixed assets), his art galleries in England and Tokyo, and to Yamato, his assistant who had worked for him for years. Yamato was to receive a hectare of land near the mountains, a luxurious two-bedroom apartment in central Tokyo, a red luxury sports car with a prancing horse logo, and a set of diamond jewelry from a world-renowned designer as a wedding gift for Saki. Issei was to receive a two-story shop fully stocked, while the rest of his wealth would be donated to charity.
Tetsuya had planned everything in detail, knowing that death could come at any time. When the time came, he could leave in peace, having already distributed all of his inheritance.
