Chapter 49 - Rumors unleashed

For some reason, when Aira woke up this morning, she felt uneasy. Suddenly, her heart was filled with intense anxiety. Not wishing to think much about it, she preferred to be positive, attributing her condition to hormonal changes during pregnancy.

Her eyes gazed at Renji's sleeping face, which was so boyish in appearance—so peaceful and serene yet so frightening when enraged.

"Renji-kun," she called softly. Renji's ears were sensitive to her voice, and even though Aira called him quietly, he could still hear her clearly, waking him from his sleep.

"Ngh~" Renji groaned, opening his eyes shortly after. "You're already awake," he said, looking at his wife's freshly awakened face.

His hand reached out to turn on the bedside lamp, then glanced at the alarm clock. Renji was slightly surprised to see it was only 5:00 AM. There was still an hour left to sleep.

"Renji-kun, I need to go to the bathroom," Aira said, asking for her husband's help.

Gathering his energy, Renji slowly got up and carefully helped Aira out of bed. Since Aira's pregnancy had reached 32 weeks, she needed assistance every time she got out of bed because her large belly made it difficult for her to move on her own.

Renji slipped soft, furry bedroom slippers onto Aira's bare feet one by one. "Do you want me to carry you to the bathroom?" he offered.

"No need, I can walk alone," Aira declined gently, not wanting to trouble him.

"Alright, but I'll help guide you to the bathroom," Renji said, supporting Aira as they walked. Once seated on the toilet, Aira sat awkwardly, not doing anything, while Renji stood nearby.

"Why are you just sitting there? You said you needed to go," Renji said, squatting in front of the toilet, resting his chin on his hands.

"How can I do it if you sit before me?" Aira grumbled, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

"Just do it. Don't be shy. Besides, I've already seen and touched every inch of your body, so there's no need to feel awkward," Renji said casually, unaware that Aira was mortified.

Aira's fists pounded Renji's shoulders repeatedly in frustration and embarrassment. "That's different from this!" she said ambiguously, making Renji raise an eyebrow.

"We're husband and wife, so don't be shy. Just pull down your underwear."

"Renji-kun!!!" Aira shouted angrily.

Tetsuya felt refreshed and fragrant after soaking in a jacuzzi with red rose-scented soap. A plain black shirt was always his formal attire when going to the office to take over Renji's duties, even though he had important work to do—painting and managing his art gallery. His work has been neglected lately, but fortunately, Tsuchihebi's son has been helping organize the gallery in England.

"Handsome as ever," Tetsuya said, admiring his calm, elegant reflection in the mirror.

After getting ready, Tetsuya planned to go to a restaurant for breakfast. He was tired of eating oatmeal and cereal. He didn't forget to bring his smartphone, which was essential for communication.

Tetsuya was shocked and disbelieving when he saw his phone screen filled with missed messages and calls from many people, especially Fujimoto Saki, who had been calling him dozens of times since morning. However, since Tetsuya kept his phone silent while sleeping to avoid disturbances, he only saw the messages and missed calls after waking up.

Honestly, Tetsuya felt a little strange, and based on his intuition—which was often correct—he guessed that something big or serious had happened. It was unusual for Saki to call him dozens of times, even if she was heavily drunk.

"Hello, is this pony girl?" Tetsuya asked in a mocking tone.

(Shut up, don't start trouble!) Saki snapped over the phone.

"Hahaha... I knew it was you. I thought I had the wrong person," Tetsuya laughed, amused by Saki's irritation.

(I thought you were dead, you pale-faced idiot! I've been calling you all morning, and you didn't answer.)

"If I'm calling you, it means I'm still alive. And don't pick a fight—I haven't had breakfast yet, so I don't have the energy to argue. Anyway, why are you calling me? This isn't like you."

(Have you checked your social media accounts?) Saki's voice sounded panicked.

"Why are you asking that? Do you want me to follow you?" Tetsuya guessed confidently.

(No, it's not that. Just open it now and look at the posts from last night's event. There are photos of Aira, and read my messages too.)

"Alright, I'll check it later."

(Now!!) Saki shouted impatiently.

"Tch, you're so annoying. Fine, I'll check it now. You'd better hope this is important."

(It's not just important—it's serious. Anyway, let's stop talking here. I'll see you at the cafe.) Saki ended the call.

Tetsuya clicked his tongue softly, glaring at his phone screen. "So annoying!"

Saki's words piqued his curiosity. He quickly opened his social media account to check what had caused Saki to panic.

At first, Tetsuya was relaxed, but his eyes widened in disbelief the next moment as he saw thousands of comments on the photo with Aira. It wasn't unusual for him to receive many comments from his fans. Still, only the photo with Aira was flooded with comments, while his other photos only had a few hundred.

As Tetsuya checked his phone, he was genuinely shocked and angry. He immediately started reading the comments from netizens, most of which were insults and curses. Some accounts even dared to openly claim that the baby in Aira's womb was illegitimate, fatherless, and the result of an affair or out-of-wedlock relationship.

Tetsuya's blood boiled, and his pale face turned red with anger. His rage grew as he read the screenshots of a group chat where one of the members had spread malicious rumors about Aira. Saki had obtained these screenshots from Ryuji, who happened to have a cousin in high school who was part of that group chat. The cousin had met and knew Aira well from visiting the cafe.

"What the hell is wrong with these crazy girls? How dare they insult and belittle Aira!" Tetsuya fumed, furious. Tetsuya stormed out of his room in a bad mood.

"Yamato!!!" he shouted in the living room.

Yamato rushed over in a panic. "Yes, young master!"

Tetsuya's expression was grim this morning, clearly irritated, but Yamato didn't dare ask questions, afraid of making Tetsuya even angrier.

"We're going to Renji's house," Tetsuya ordered.

"This early?" Yamato was slightly surprised.

"Yes, now! Prepare the car and find out who owns this anonymous account. They've been spreading malicious rumors and inciting hatred," Tetsuya showed Yamato the messages from Saki to investigate.

"Understood. I'll look into it and report back as soon as possible."

"I want that information by noon at the latest."

"Got it, boss."

Tetsuya's appetite vanished. Suddenly, he felt full—even nauseous—after reading the comments on his social media account.

Renji almost overslept. He had decided to use the remaining time to go back to sleep after Aira had fallen asleep again. He was so lost in slumber that he forgot to attend school today.

Aira neatly laid out Renji's school uniform, tie, bag, and socks on the bed while he was showering.

Even though her belly was enormous and it was slightly difficult for her to move around, Aira didn't want to neglect her duties as a wife, which included caring for her husband. Aira placed a glass of Espresso coffee on the dining table.

"Why aren't you wearing your slippers, honey?" Renji scolded, concerned.

"Sit down. I've prepared breakfast," Aira greeted Renji with a soft smile.

Renji ignored his breakfast for a moment, instead taking off his slippers and crouching down to put them on Aira's feet. "I've often told you not to walk around the house without slippers. Your feet will get cold."

"Okay," Aira smiled happily at Renji's attention. "Let's have breakfast. I made you Omurice," she invited.

The dining room was quiet, though occasionally, Aira would chat about her recent activities and ask about Renji's schedule.

By nature, Renji was quiet and reserved, speaking only when necessary and avoiding unnecessary conversations. So, sometimes, his answers were brief, but he became talkative about Aira's health.

"Finish your food, don't leave any. Take the vitamins the doctor prescribed, and don't sleep in the morning—it's not good for your health. I'll be home late tonight because I have reports to finish, so don't wait up for me," he said, all of it advice for Aira.

"Hmm, but don't forget, Hinami's engagement party is this Saturday," Aira reminded him.

"We'll talk about that later. Finish your breakfast first," Renji replied. Aira felt disappointed because, once again, Renji was avoiding the topic of Hinami's engagement. After all, Hinami was still his younger sister, even if they had different mothers. For a full minute, Aira stirred her food with a pouty expression.

"Alright, we'll go to Hinami's engagement party," Renji sighed, unable to bear seeing Aira sad.

"Really?!" Aira's face lit up with joy.

"But there's a condition," Renji added.

"That's not fair! Why does there have to be a condition?" Aira pouted.

"Fine, then," Renji pretended to be angry. Aira panicked and quickly spoke up, afraid Renji would change his mind. "I accept the condition, whatever it is. Just tell me!"

Renji smiled, satisfied. "For this whole week, you must be a good girl and obey everything I say. No arguing, no matter what," Renji stated his condition

"I agree," Aira replied, accepting the terms.

"That's my wife," Renji said, patting Aira's head.

In the middle of breakfast, an uninvited guest arrived. Earlier, the maid who had been helping Aira with chores for the past month opened the door for Tetsuya.

"It smells amazing in here!" Tetsuya exclaimed with a wide smile.

"Ah, Tetsuya! Good morning," Aira greeted from the dining table.

"Morning," Tetsuya replied, handing over a bag of fresh fruits. "I bought some sweet oranges for you. They're good for dessert and your health since they contain vitamin C."

"Thank you so much! But it's not like you to do this. Did something big happen this morning, Yamato-san?" Aira asked, her eyes full of curiosity as she looked at Yamato.

"Nothing at all, young miss," Yamato replied, hiding the truth of what was happening.

Aira might have been fooled, but not Renji, who was familiar with Tetsuya's mannerisms and subtle changes in behavior. Even though Tetsuya was smiling broadly, the sadness in his eyes couldn't be hidden.

"Honey, I'll head to the study first. I need to discuss something with Tetsuya," Renji said, finishing his breakfast early. Aira nodded in understanding, accustomed to Renji's busy schedule.

"Don't forget to eat the oranges. I picked the sweet ones for you," Tetsuya said, waving his hand.

"Okay, I'll eat them later with Keiko," Aira replied, waving back. The two Ishikawa men left the dining room, leaving Aira with the maid.

News about Aira had spread rapidly overnight, as fast as a gust of wind. Before it even made it to the television news, people outside, especially teenagers, were already buzzing about it, unaware of the truth.

A glass of water was offered to Tetsuya. Since he was still recovering, he couldn't drink anything besides plain water.

"Did something happen?" Renji asked directly. Tetsuya stuck his hand in his pocket and handed his smartphone to Renji.

"What's going on?" Renji asked, confused.

"Take a look and read for yourself," Tetsuya replied flatly, his attitude only piqued by his attitude.

It didn't even take a minute for Renji to glance at Tetsuya's phone—a sleek device with a bitten fruit logo and three rear cameras—before he hurled it across the room like a stone, not caring that it was worth hundreds of dollars.

"My phone!" Tetsuya shouted in shock. It hadn't even been a month since he got the latest model, and now he'd have to buy a new one.

The brand-new phone lay shattered on the floor, its screen cracked, and the back casing detached. Tetsuya, the unfortunate owner, could only sit silently, crying inside.

"Bring that person to me!" Renji roared in anger.

Renji's expression was terrifying, perhaps even scarier, like the god of death. Even Tetsuya, who had done nothing wrong, felt a chill run down his spine.

"Find out who's part of that group chat. I'll teach them all a lesson they won't forget," Renji hissed, filled with rage and hatred.

"Don't worry about that. I've already ordered my men to handle it. I advise keeping Aira indoors for now and tightening security around her. This may be the old man's doing," Tetsuya said.

"You're right. It may be the old man's doing. But if it's true, I won't hold back this time," Renji replied.

Tetsuya patted Renji's shoulder gently, trying to calm and encourage him. "Don't you have to go to school today? Don't overthink things about Aira."

Renji slumped into his office chair, his right hand massaging his throbbing forehead. He wanted to scream at the top of his lungs, destroy everything in sight, and vent his anger. But Aira was here, and he didn't want to make his wife anxious or frightened.
