Chapter 63 - 63: A Dead's Return ! & A God's Plan !
Konoha Village Entrance,
Tears streamed down Kushina Uzumaki's face as she stood before the gates of her home. An overwhelming tide of emotion washed over her; after twelve long years, she had finally returned. She gazed at the familiar sights, her eyes drawn inexorably upwards to the Hokage Rock towering over the village. Her husband's face, Minato's face, was carved amongst the legends.
Just as she was about to step forward, Orochimaru's parting words echoed in her mind: "Kushina, if you truly wish to see Konoha as it is now, I suggest you enter unseen. Observe quietly. Only then will you grasp its truest state."
Kushina didn't fully understand Orochimaru's intentions, but his advice resonated. She was, after all, supposed to be dead. A silent entry seemed appropriate.
'Very well' she thought,' I'll slip in unnoticed.'
Locating a subtle weakness in Konoha's defensive barrier, Kushina bypassed it with practiced ease, melting into the village she once called home.
Konoha Central Plaza,
Meanwhile, in the main plaza, a large crowd had gathered. Neither the Konoha leadership nor Tsunade and the other assembled shinobi noticed the quiet arrival. All eyes were fixated on a large, ethereal screen displaying events unfolding elsewhere.
[The image on the screen flickered to life—]
[Within the rain-soaked streets of Amegakure, the Hidden Rain Village, Jiraiya had just infiltrated. Instantly, his presence was detected. The screen showed the imposing figure of Pain turning to the blue-haired woman beside him. "Someone has entered," Pain stated, his voice flat. "And they are powerful."]
[Konan nodded silently, understanding his unspoken command, and turned to depart.]
[The scene shifted. Jiraiya, undercover, was attempting to gather information in a local bar, currently putting on his best charming act with a woman named Tezuna. His eyes widened comically as he took in her rather ample bust.
' Whoa' his thoughts likely broadcasted with unsubtle glee, 'Even bigger than Tsunade's! Looks like tonight's going to be... eventful!' ]
----------------------------
Konoha Plaza - Reality,
BOOM!
A deafening crash shook the plaza. Dust and smoke erupted as a section of the square cracked and splintered. In the center stood Tsunade, fists clenched, radiating pure fury.
"Tsunade!" Hiruzen Sarutobi hurried over, ever the mediator. "Calm yourself! Your temper is as fierce as ever! Control it before someone gets hurt!"
"Hmph! Stay out of this, old man!" Tsunade snapped, turning away with a pout.
The surrounding crowd instinctively gave her a wide berth, maintaining a cautious fifty-meter radius, well aware of the collateral damage the Fifth Hokage could inflict when enraged.
[The image on the screen continued—]
[Jiraiya and Tezuna continued their conversation, but the mood shifted when Tezuna mentioned having a husband. Jiraiya's flirtatious demeanor vanished, replaced by awkwardness.]
[Trying to ease the tension, Tezuna changed the subject. "My husband mentioned that the rain falling on the village... it's Lord Pain's jutsu," she explained innocently. "They say that anyone caught in it, he instantly knows their location and what they're doing."]
[Jiraiya's expression turned grim. He instantly understood: his infiltration had already failed. His presence was known.]
[Simultaneously, the screen showed the Deva Path Pain using a technique, causing the perpetual rain over Amegakure to cease abruptly. He then retreated into a large, coffin-like pod. Moments later, from an identical pod nearby, another man with the same Rinnegan eyes sat up.]
...
A wave of shock rippled through the assembled ninja world watching the feed. Multiple Rinnegan users? They had only seen one during the earlier glimpses of the Akatsuki. And the revelation about the rain itself was critical intel – Amegakure's rain was a village-wide surveillance system!

Akatsuki Hideout,
The Deva Path Pain clenched his fists, watching his secrets being laid bare.
"Pain..." Konan murmured, looking at him with concern.
"It doesn't matter," the Deva Path replied evenly. "Let them know. What difference will it make?" Possessing the Rinnegan, he considered himself destined to shape the world. Even if fate itself seemed aligned against him now, he would defy it.
-----------------------------
[The image on the screen returned—]
[Konan appeared before another Pain, this one identifiable as the Animal Path.]
["It's Jiraiya-sensei" Konan reported.]
["Jiraiya-sensei?" the Animal Path mused, a flicker of something unreadable in its eyes. "How nostalgic."]
["What are your orders?"]
["Kill him" the Animal Path stated, devoid of emotion.]
Watching this, Tsunade's anger surged anew, righteous fire burning in her chest.
She recognized Konan – the quiet girl from years ago, the one who had shyly given her a paper flower. To see her now, calmly accepting orders to murder their former teacher... It was unforgivable.
-----------------------------
Elsewhere,
Orochimaru watched with a cold smirk. This outcome didn't surprise him in the slightest. He remembered warning Jiraiya all those years ago, telling him not to waste his time playing savior to war orphans.
But Jiraiya, ever the idealist, hadn't listened, dedicating three years to training Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan.
'And now' Orochimaru mused, 'they turn on you without a second thought. Still playing the fool, aren't you, Jiraiya?'
Hidden within the throng, Kushina scanned the familiar faces. A pang of worry struck her – she couldn't see Mikoto Uchiha, nor any other members of the Uchiha clan. 'Where are they?'
she wondered silently. And why was Sasuke with Orochimaru earlier? There was no one she could ask right now. Her gaze then fell upon Kakashi and Might Guy, standing close together. Hmm, Kakashi seems quite close with Guy now, she thought with mild confusion. Has he moved on? Does he not care for Obito anymore?
------------------------
[The image on the screen shifted again—]
[Jiraiya faced Konan directly. Their first true confrontation.]
[Despite the situation, a flicker of pride touched Jiraiya's features. "Your paper techniques have grown considerably sharper! And you've become quite a remarkable woman, Konan!"]
["Jiraiya-sensei" Konan replied, her voice detached. "You haven't changed at all."]
["I have questions, Konan. Who exactly is Pain?"]
["That doesn't concern you anymore, Sensei"]
[Two enormous wings fashioned from paper erupted from Konan's back. She ascended gracefully, an angel of death against the bleak Amegakure sky. Then, she unleashed a storm of razor-sharp paper shuriken.]
[Jiraiya dodged nimbly, rolling away from the barrage. "Art of the Raging Lion's Mane!" he yelled, binding her momentarily. Then, changing tactics: "Toad Oil Bomb!"]
[A torrent of thick, sticky oil engulfed Konan, plastering her paper wings and clothes to her body, leaving her immobilized and drenched.]
---------------------------
Konoha Plaza - Reality,
Another roar – this one of pure outrage – erupted from Tsunade. Seeing Jiraiya employ such a... sticky and arguably perverted jutsu against his former student pushed her over the edge.
"That lecherous fool!" she seethed. "Let him rot in that miserable Rain Village!"
No one dared to contradict her.
However, the commotion caused by Tsunade's outburst created a brief moment of chaos. In that instant, Kakashi's eyes caught a flash of distinctive crimson hair partially obscured by the crowd. His breath hitched. Long, red hair... 'Could it be?'
His heart pounded. 'Kushina-sensei? But... she's dead!'
He had to be sure. "Guy!" he hissed, darting towards the spot where he'd seen her.
"Wait up, my eternal rival!" Guy yelled, slightly bewildered but loyal as ever, pushing through the crowd after him.
But when Kakashi reached the area, the woman was gone. "Where did she go? She was just here!"
Frantically, Kakashi pushed up his headband, revealing his Sharingan, its tomoe spinning as he scanned the chaotic plaza. Guy caught up, panting.
"Kakashi? What is it? An enemy?" Guy asked nervously, sensing Kakashi's urgency.
"No! I'm looking for Kushina-sama!" Kakashi replied quickly, his Sharingan still scanning.
"Kushina?" Guy repeated, the name vaguely familiar. "What does she look like?"
"Long red hair!"
With that description, Guy's eyes suddenly widened. He spotted a lone figure with vibrant red hair standing in a shadowed, remote corner of the plaza, seemingly trying to remain unnoticed.
"Kakashi! To your right!"
Of course! Kakashi realized. The most obvious blind spot!
Shunshin!
In an instant, Kakashi appeared directly behind the woman. He reached out a trembling hand, gently touching her shoulder.
Slowly, the woman turned. A warm, familiar smile touched her lips. "You found me, Kakashi." She reached up instinctively, ruffling his silver hair just like she used to.
Kakashi felt frozen, caught between disbelief and a flood of memories. "K-Kushina... sama!" The name felt thick in his throat, difficult to voice.
"Ara~ Ara~ , Kakashi," Kushina said warmly, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "I remember when you barely reached my nose. Now you're as tall as Minato was!"
Hearing his sensei's name spoken so casually by his wife, after all these years... Kakashi felt his composure crack. He quickly turned his head, pretending to rub something from his eye, hiding the sudden moisture gathering there.
Guy, standing nearby, stared intently at Kushina. He knew he recognized her from somewhere... but where?
"You... You're...!" Guy stammered.
Kushina chuckled softly. "Little Guy. I see you've grown strong too, keeping pace with Kakashi."
"Hahaha! Of course! Kakashi is my eternal rival! I'd never let him leave me behind!" Guy boasted, then frowned slightly. The woman looked younger than him, yet she called him 'Little Guy.'
Then, a memory clicked. A visit, long ago, tagging along with Kakashi to the Fourth Hokage's home. The kind, fiery woman who lived there... She had called him 'Little Guy'.
Might Guy stumbled back a few steps, his eyes wide with shock. "You... You're the Fourth Hokage's wife!"
Kushina burst into genuine laughter, holding her stomach. "Hahaha! Yes, Little Guy! You finally remember!"
Guy was about to shout in excitement, but Kakashi quickly clamped a hand over his mouth. Kakashi had noticed the subtle, unnatural stillness about Kushina, the faint traces of chakra – hallmarks of the Edo Tensei. They couldn't draw attention.
"Kushina-sama," Kakashi said quietly, "let's go somewhere more private."
"Mm," Kushina nodded in agreement.
With coordinated bursts of speed, the three vanished from the plaza, reappearing moments later inside Kakashi's apartment.
...
Konoha Plaza - The Screen,
Back in the square, the images continued to unfold, unnoticed by the departed trio.
[The image showed Jiraiya questioning the captured Konan about Yahiko and Nagato's whereabouts.]
[Suddenly, the Animal Path Pain appeared. Summoning a giant, multi-headed dog, it broke through Jiraiya's restraints, freeing Konan.]
["Nagato," Jiraiya pressed, turning to the Animal Path, "And Yahiko? What happened to them?"]
["They died long ago," the Animal Path stated flatly. "People like that... they are insignificant."]
[Jiraiya recoiled, shocked. "Nagato! That's not the boy I knew! You weren't like this!"]
["War changes people," the Animal Path retorted. "Ignorant children mature only when they experience true pain."]
["So you abandoned your friends? You call that growth?"]
["Teacher," the Animal Path said, a hint of condescension in its voice. "You are merely human. How could you possibly comprehend the will of a god?"]
Around the shinobi world, murmurs of disbelief and scorn arose.
"A delusional fanatic calling himself a god?"
"Does he truly think he has the power to back up such claims?"
"Let Lord Jiraiya teach him a lesson!"
But amidst the general confidence in the Sannin, Orochimaru, who had once faced Pain himself, knew better. He understood the terrifying power Pain wielded. 'That BGM isn't just for show' he thought wryly.
Pain might actually have the power to call himself a god.
'Run, Jiraiya' Orochimaru mused silently.'If you don't get out of there soon, not even the real gods will be able to save you.'

[Jiraiya, realizing dialogue was futile, shifted back to his mission: gathering intelligence.]
["What is your ultimate goal, Nagato?"]
["To bring an end to this endless cycle of war," the Animal Path declared.]
["Then why collect the Tailed Beasts?" Jiraiya demanded.]
["Since you are about to die anyway, I will tell you," the Animal Path said coolly.
"We will use the power of the sealed Tailed Beasts to create the ultimate forbidden jutsu. A weapon capable of obliterating an entire nation in an instant. With such power, we will force the world to know pain. True, unbearable pain. Through that shared suffering, they will finally understand, they will mature, and they will cease their fighting."]
[Jiraiya was horrified. "That won't bring peace! It will only plunge the world into deeper conflict! Greater wars!"]
["That is why you will always remain insignificant, teacher," the Animal Path mocked softly.
"A mere human, incapable of growth, unable to grasp the divine perspective."]
The revelation hit the Ninja World like a physical blow. Akatsuki's true plan: weaponize the Tailed Beasts, inflict mass destruction and pain, and rule through terror, forcing a grim, fear-based 'peace.'
"I knew Nagato was misguided, but I never imagined he'd become such a monster!" Tsunade muttered, horrified.
Orochimaru simply shrugged internally. Interesting ambition. Still doesn't affect my research.
"His thinking mirrors Madara Uchiha's," Onoki observed grimly from Iwagakure.
"Damn him!" the Fourth Raikage roared in Kumo. "He wants to make us feel pain? I'll tear him limb from limb!"
"He's certainly striking," Terumi Mei mused from Kiri, "but far too cold for my taste."

Kakashi's Apartment,
Inside Kakashi's quiet apartment, Kushina gazed sadly at the framed photograph on the wall: Team Minato. Minato, Rin, Obito, and a younger Kakashi. Time had passed cruelly. Of the five people connected to that photo – sensei, students, and herself – only Kakashi remained.
"Kushina-sama, I'll get you some tea," Kakashi offered, trying to break the somber mood.
"Don't trouble yourself, Kakashi," Kushina replied softly.
"L-Let me get it!" Guy stammered, eager to be useful, and practically tripped into the small kitchen, followed by the sounds of clattering cups.
Kushina turned back to Kakashi, her eyes bright with hesitant hope, a question burning within her. "Kakashi," she began, her voice trembling slightly with anticipation, "Naruto... how is my son? How has his life been?"
Just that single question.
The fragile sense of normalcy shattered. Kakashi's face, moments before filled with the complex joy of reunion, instantly fell. He lowered his head, unable to meet the intense, pleading gaze of the mother desperate for news of the child she never got to raise.
"Naruto..." Kakashi started, his voice choked, "...he..."
