Nightmare Assault-Chapter 372: It’s You
Chapter 372: It's You
Fatty’s group’s car paused at a fork not far from the tunnel exit. When he saw Jiang Cheng’s group’s car, Fatty’s dim eyes lit up. It was strange. Their car entered the tunnel after Jiang Cheng’s group, but while they were inside the tunnel, the taxi in front of them disappeared. Even the taillights were gone.
Banana Wolf instantly realised that something was wrong. After they exited the tunnel, Banana Wolf told the driver to stop at the nearby fork in the road. The driver kept urging them to move. They were not allowed to stop by the road. He’d be fined if the police officer caught them. However, after Banana Wolf ‘accidentally’ revealed the blade in his bag, the driver quieted down.
Jiang Cheng’s cab stopped beside theirs. Chen Yi, who was supposed to be the back, had disappeared. No one asked a silly question like where Chen Yi was. Everyone was silent. Chen Yi was dead. She was killed by the ghost.
Chu Jiu cried nonstop. In the end, it was Fatty who carried her out of the car. Fatty wanted to tell some jokes to make her smile. However, before he could say anything, his eyes became red. He saw a familiar shadow in Chu Jiu. Compared to Chu Jiu, Jiang Cheng was a lot calmer. He got out of the car. “Let’s go back.” He told the rest.
“How are you?” Hua Luo asked. He saw how pale Jiang Cheng looked. He thought he was injured or scared.
Jiang Cheng turned back to look down the tunnel. The image that appeared in Jiang Cheng’s mind was not of Chen Yi being bound by a ghost or when she jumped out of the car. It was from many years ago. Inside the dim private room, the female officer with a sharp ponytail shouted at him, “Hurry up!” She pretended to be courageous and yelled at the men and women cowering in the corner, “I’ll wait for you here.”
…
The violent coughing injured her heavily. Her chest rose and fell. The curled-up Chen Yi spat out blood. She slowly opened her eyes. She was surrounded by darkness and silence. Her body was wet and cold. She tried to raise her hand as pain shot through her body. Jumping out of the cab injured her greatly. Her left arm was bent unnaturally. Her legs were scratched. She took a deep breath and was taken over by coughs.
This was bad. The thing that worried her the most happened. Her ribs snapped and pierced her lungs. She tried to force herself to stand up, but she lost to her broken body. She knelt on the ground. Blood dripped down her face. She rarely appeared so haggard. However, the pressure on her shoulders disappeared. This was nothing worth celebrating. The darkness was still there, and her power of hearing was removed. She was not in the tunnel… at least not the same one.
The ghost was still there. She was hidden in the darkness around her. She could sense her suppressed breath. At this point, she calmed down. She tried to lift her head to look around. She believed… they had already escaped. Hopefully, they survived.
Fatty, Chu Jiu… and the man who called himself Hao Shuai. Chen Yi pulled her lips and revealed an ugly smile. What a dishonest person. He refused to say his real name even when she was dying. Perhaps, as he said, he was just a bastard who only knew how to scam women.
However, when she opened the car door, his arrogant and shameless expression changed. He panicked. He was like a child who was about to lose his toy. That shouldn’t be… how a bastard should act.
A pair of icy hands reached out from behind her and touched her face. The hands grabbed her chin. Chen Yi didn’t struggle. She had heard the hollow breathing earlier. She slowly closed her eyes. However, the next second, light bloomed before her.
The footsteps became clearer. The person was not in a hurry. One hand was shoved in the trench coat. The other hand held a giant black umbrella. The black leather shoes stomped on the ground, creating ripples. Because the person walked against the light, Chen Yi couldn’t see their face. The person stopped about three metres in front of her.
“Everyone who wants to hurt her will die.”
Chen Yi’s eyes focused. The voice was familiar. She had heard it before. Then…
“It’s you!” Chen Yi gasped.
The black umbrella raised to reveal a pair of crimson eyes.
The neck snapped. The body slumped into the puddle.
…
When the sky was about to darken, the travellers finally reunited in the lobby of Building One. The original team of four from Building Three became a team of three. Liu Guo’s face was dark.
“Lu Huaxu is dead,” He announced plainly. At the same time, Wu raised his eyes to scan everyone. Chu Jiu sat to the side listlessly. Fatty knelt beside her to console her. Chen Yi was missing.
“Something happened to Chen Yi too,” Hua Luo whispered.
Liu Guo was surprised. However, Jiang Cheng looked at him and urged him, “Tell us what happened on your end.”
“Through Manager Zhao, we contacted Lee Maoshen’s previous company, but their company was unwilling to interact with me. They gave us the phone number of Lee Maoshen’s friend.
“This friend was Lee Maoshen’s partner. He was the cameraman. However, they got into an argument due to the direction of their videos. Lee Maoshen wanted to grab people’s attention with supernatural horror videos.” Liu Guo continued, “But his friend was timid. He refused to go along with it. Therefore, they split up. Then, Lee Maoshen found another cameraman. The strange thing was the two of them not soon after.
“Since they walked in the same circle, he was familiar with the cameraman’s details. His name is Qiao Yu. He lived above a cafe not far from here.”
